Hasan Depressed by Health Care Bill Delays ... Kills and Maims Fellow Soldiers
The Times Explains
It is unclear what might have motivated Major Hasan, who is suspected of killing 13 people.
"I don't understand why the Muslim-American community has to take responsibility for him," said Ingrid Mattson, the president of the Islamic Society of North America. "The Army has had at least as much time and opportunity to form and shape this person as the Muslim community."
Maybe if he had yelled "Hooah" as he opened fire....
This, though, is the nadir:Muslim leaders, advocates and military service members have taken pains to denounce the shooting and distance themselves from Major Hasan. They make the point that his violence is no more representative of them than it is of other groups to which he belongs, including Army psychiatrists.
Yes, we've witnessed quite a string of terrorist attacks by Army psychiatrists. It's a funny thing--a disproportionate number of psychiatrists have always been Jewish, but I can't remember a single instance of one of them flying an airplane into a building. The whole thing is a puzzle, really.
No, really, we have to stop associating mass murder with Islam when we have the Amish, Methodists and Baptists going on similar killing sprees. [sarcasm off]
There is a problem here that must be faced. There is a creed that sanctions, indeed, encourages the killing of people who are not part of their belief system. We have to define what that creed is and neutralize it.
I love Germany and its people, and I don’t condemn all Germans for World War 2. But there is a subset of Germans that were responsible for that war. We call them Nazis, and they represented enough of the German people to lead to a terrible war. At the same time, people of German descent worked hard on the American and Allied home front and fought valiantly in the military during World War 2 to end the Nazi regime.
We can distinguish between peaceful Muslims and Muslim extremists. Different religions have learned to worship their own God without killing each other. We must – for our own safety – learn the difference between Muslims who differ like Baptists and Unitarians, Christians and Jews.
The Left would have us believe that if we cannot identify and struggle against Islamic extremism without condemning all Muslims. That is a false dichotomy and it has led Liberals to wildly seek a way of explaining Major Hasan without reference to his embrace of violent Jihad, a uniquely Muslim article of faith.
If we can learn to tell the difference between the average German and the Nazi, surely we can do the same with Muslims.

Blind diversity equals death
But part of the government apparatus did not change its views of what constituted a threat, and that led to Fort Hood. Major Hasan is a legacy of political correctness conflated with multiculturalism that is truly deadly. How the Obama administration reacts to that will determine its legacy in the war declared by radical Islam.
The Army’s death grip on “diversity” as articulated by Army Chief of Staff Casey got us to this point and will not fix the problem. Homeland Security Chief Napolitano’s expression of concern was for Muslims and the always feared but never seen “backlash.” Attorney General Holder is not sending out federal marshals to protect vulnerable targets as he did after the killing of an abortion doctor. Instead he’s going to address the Council on American-Islamic Relations, an unindicted co-conspirator in the terrorism financing case against the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development.
And finally Mr. Obama himself is setting the tone of his administration – and the tone of the MSM reports on the attack on our soldiers by calling it “inexplicable.”
It's not. Michelle Malkin has it right ...
The violence at Fort Hood, President Obama told mourners on Tuesday, was "incomprehensible." The "twisted logic that led to the tragedy," he reiterated, may be "too hard to comprehend." If the Bush administration suffered a systemic failure of imagination on homeland security, the Obama administration is suffering a willful failure of comprehension.
What exactly is so hard to comprehend? Fort Hood jihadist Maj. Nidal Hasan made his means, motives and inspiration all too clear for those willing to see and hear. In his 2007 slide presentation to fellow Army doctors on "The Koranic World View As It Relates to Muslims in the Military," Hasan spelled it out: "We love death more then (sic) you love life!"
The Bush administration saw that we had a problem with Islamic terrorism and changed policy that kept the Homeland safe for the rest of his term. Major Hasan is proof that that policy was not airtight. Bush changed part of the culture, but not all of the culture and that was what allowed Major Hasan to commit his act of Jihad. From all appearances the Obama administration does not see any problem with the security measures that we have in place. The biggest issue they see before them is insuring that the American people do not offend our Muslim friends.

Fort Hood: Let's Drop the Political Correctness
For a person with old-fashioned values, and an old-fashioned sense of English word meanings, the reports of the Fort Hood massacre were almost as provoking as what happened there. In the larger view of things, they may be more consequential.
...
President Barack Obama's display on Thursday made my point more clearly than it usually can be made, for he turned on a dime. He assumed the "presidential grieving tone" over the Fort Hood massacre, the moment after he'd just done an equally scripted segment of light joking banter for the benefit of the Tribal Nations Conference he was addressing. Millions in the television audience must have watched this incredibly cynical "quick flip." I wonder how many noticed it?
...
This deadly enemy of the West -- the Islamist ideology which holds all Jews, Christians, other non-Muslims, and a considerable number of Muslims, too, to be human filth in need of extermination -- is well infiltrated. Events like that at Fort Hood prove this, and from what I can see, the problem can only grow with the passage of time.
Getting at Islamist cells, to say nothing of lone, self-appointed jihadis within our society, means getting over the false sentimentality that turns a terrorist incident into an "incomprehensible tragedy" when it is not incomprehensible, and not a theatrical event.
It also means ripping through the politically-correct drivel that is put in the way of investigators. They should surely be allowed to assume that every loyal Muslim will be eager to give information to help them identify any potential killers in their midst.
We'd be better off confronting that Islamist enemy, than spraying perfume after each fatal strike.
Agreed.

"Better screwed than rude."
Step One:
Hasan, the sole suspect in the massacre of 13 fellow US soldiers in Texas, attended the controversial Dar al-Hijrah mosque in Great Falls, Virginia, in 2001 at the same time as two of the September 11 terrorists, The Sunday Telegraph has learnt. His mother's funeral was held there in May that year.
The preacher at the time was Anwar al-Awlaki, an American-born Yemeni scholar who was banned from addressing a meeting in London by video link in August because he is accused of supporting attacks on British troops and backing terrorist organisations.
Hasan's eyes "lit up" when he mentioned his deep respect for al-Awlaki's teachings, according to a fellow Muslim officer at the Fort Hood base in Texas...
Step Two:
Danquah assumed the military’s chain of command knew about Hasan’s doubts, which had been known for more than a year to classmates in a graduate military medical program. His fellow students complained to the faculty about Hasan’s "anti-American propaganda," but said a fear of appearing discriminatory against a Muslim student kept officers from filing a formal written complaint.
Step Three:
Thinking Anew—Security Priorities for the Next Administration
A coherent strategy to address 21st century threats to the United States, one that treats national and homeland security as a seamless whole, has yet to emerge... To help fuel this process, in April 2008 The George Washington University Homeland Security Policy Institute (HSPI) established the Presidential Transition Task Force, comprised of national and homeland security experts, policymakers and practitioners... The goal was to determine the top strategic priorities to advance the nation’s security in the coming decade...
Event Participants:
...Amanda Halpern
U.S. House of Representatives
Beth Hampton
Homeland Security Institute
Nidal Hasan
Uniformed Services University School of Medicine
Donald Hawkins
U.S. Department of Homeland Security
Eric Heighberger
Homeland Security Council...
That's quite the company for a deranged misfit loner whacko of no broader significance.
I believe it was Derb a few months after 9/11 who said that for this new struggle our watchword was "Better screwed than rude." Major Hasan represents the institutionalization of that attitude. Thirteen people are dead, dozens more will live with their injuries for the rest of their days, and a lot of families have had a great big gaping hole blown out of their lives because of it.
Anwar al-Awlaki and his chums have bet that such a society is too sick to survive. Watch the nothing-to-see-here media driveling on about pre-post-traumatic stress disorder like gibbering lunatics in a padded cell , and then think whether you'd really want to take that bet.
The "Cop Killer" FN Five-seveN
The media is wasting very little time informing us that the weapon used by Major Nidal Malik Hasan in his rampage at Fort Hood was a "cop killer."
Ft. Hood terrorist used a cop killer FN-Five Seven tactical pistol—20 round clip -- Examiner
'Cop Killer" Gun though to Be Used in Ft. Hood Shooting, Offiicals Said -- ABC News
Fort Hood shootings: gunman used 'cop killer' weapon in massacre at US Army base -- UK Telegraph
Ironically, there is no known record of that weapon even being used to kill a police officer in the United States, and there is a distinct possibility that Sgt. Kimberly Munley, wounded while engaging Hasan, may have been the first American law enforcement officer ever shot with a Five-seveN.
How did the Five-seveN get it's "cop killer" reputation, then?
It was created in a Brady Campaign press release in February of 2005.
The media is "sure" about the gun, they are unsure about Hasan's religion or motive.

New York Muslims Justify Fort Hood Shootings
These people are not underground, they don't hide their beliefs, they shout it from loudspeakers, they pass out pamphlets.
Just like Major Hasan.
Hasan is not alone. There are many Hasans.
Media 'Cringe' That Mass Killer a Muslim Since It 'Inflames' Right Wing, 'That Makes It Much Worse'
Newsweek's Evan Thomas regretted the Fort Hood mass murderer, Major Nidal Hasan, is a Muslim because of how that reality will be abused by conservatives. On this weekend's Inside Washington, Thomas, now Editor at Large with Newsweek after stints as Assistant Managing Editor and Washington bureau chief, rued:I cringe that he's a Muslim. I mean, because it inflames all the fears. I think he's probably just a nut case. But with that label attached to him, it will get the right wing going and it just -- I mean these things are tragic, but that makes it much worse.
NPR's Nina Totenberg soon chimed in with agreement: “It really is tragic that he was a Muslim.”
On the other hand, 13 dead soldiers at the hands of a devout Muslim is sooooo inconvenient.
Sarah Palin: The People Who Gave Us Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac Now Want To Run Health Care
I can easily see this! We’ve got to hold on to hope, and we’ve got to fight hard because Congressional action tonight just put America on a path toward an unrecognizable country.
The same government leaders that got us into the mortgage business and the car business are now getting us into the health care business.
Despite Americans’ decisive message last Tuesday that they reject the troubling path this country has been taking, Speaker Pelosi has broken her own promises of transparency to ram a health “care” bill through the House of Representatives just before midnight. Why did she push the 2,000 page bill this weekend? Was she perhaps afraid to give her peers and the constituents for whom she works the chance to actually read this monstrous bill carefully, if at all? Was she concerned that Americans might really digest the details of a bill that the Wall Street Journal has called “the worst piece of post-New Deal legislation ever introduced”?
This out-of-control bureaucratic mess will be disastrous for our economy, our small businesses, and our personal liberty. It will slam businesses at a time when we are at double-digit unemployment rates – the highest we’ve seen in a quarter of a century. This massive new bureaucracy will cost us and our children money we don’t have. It will rob Americans of more of our freedom and further hamper the free market.
Make no mistake: we’re on course to have government commandeer one-sixth of our economy. The people who gave us Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac now want to run our health care. Think about that.
All of us who value the sanctity of life are grateful for the success of the pro-life majority in the House this evening in its battle against federal funding of abortion in this bill, but it’s ironic because we were promised that abortion wasn’t covered in the bill to begin with. Our healthy distrust of these government leaders made us look deeper into the bill because unfortunately we knew better than to trust what they were saying. The victory tonight to amend the bill and eliminate that federal funding for abortion was great – because abortion is not health care. Now we can only hope that Rep. Stupak’s amendment will hold in the final bill, though the Democratic leadership has already refused to promise that it won’t be scrapped later.
We had been told there were no “death panels” in the bill either. But look closely at the provision mandating bureaucratic panels that will be calling the shots regarding who will receive government health care.
Look closely at provisions addressing illegal aliens’ health care coverage too.
Those of us who love freedom and believe in open and transparent government can only be dismayed by midnight action on a Saturday. Speaker Pelosi’s promise that Americans would have 72 hours to read the final bill before the vote was just another one of the D.C. establishment’s too-common political ploys. It’s broken promises like this that turn people off to politics and leave them disillusioned about the future of their country.
But despite this late-night maneuvering, many of us were paying close attention tonight. We’ll keep paying close attention. We need to let our legislators in Washington know that they still represent us, and that the majority of Americans are not in favor of the “reform” they are pushing. After all, this is still a country “of the people, by the people, and for the people.” We will make our voices heard. It’s on to the Senate now. Our legislators can listen now, or they can hear us in 2010. It’s their choice.
Dana Milbank is a "Punk a Liar and a Coward." I think that covers it.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Why do we have to read British papers to get Ft. Hood jihadist news?!
The London Telegraph has the bombshell report on Ft. Hood jihadist Nidal Hassan’s ties to the September 11 terrorists.
Read and re-read here for the full investigative piece.
Allahpundit has a full round-up and commentary on the Telegraph’s revelations here.
Question: Why is it that we have to read British papers to get the unvarnished truths about the Ft. Hood Muslim mass murderer?
Where are those "shovel ready" jobs?
So how’s that working out in your neighborhood, city, country or state? In Oregon, those "shovel ready jobs" aren't. They borrowed $175 million to create 3,000 jobs. Here's the report.
A state report released Friday shows that of 499 projects, 73 have started. The number of "retained" jobs, 270. The number of new jobs to date, 16. That's not much bang for the buck.
We were told that if the stimulus was not passed, unemployment would exceed 9%; with the stimulus it would only reach 8%. The “official” unemployment rate is 10.2%
... and the real rate is over 17%
With the ranks of the unemployed rising by hundreds of thousands a month you would think that there would be an outcry by our professional “outcriers,” the media. But you would be wrong. Other than noting the passing of each unemployment milestone, we don’t hear any questions being raised about the absence of those “shovel ready jobs.” In fact we hear very few questions about the phony “jobs created or saved” numbers. But here and there some people are looking into those numbers. From the Chicago Tribune:
More than $4.7 million in federal stimulus aid so far has been funneled to schools in North Chicago, and state and federal officials say that money has saved the jobs of 473 teachers.
Problem is, the district employs only 290 teachers.
"That other number, I don't know where that came from," said Lauri Hakanen, superintendent of North Chicago Community Unit Schools District 187.
That is only one of many examples of job creation/saving that simply can’t be true. The other theme that runs through all of the jobs data that comes out of the Obama administration is that the focus has been on funding school teachers and other employees of state and local agencies. The last time I looked, teachers and school administrators were not wielding shovels or any other implement of construction.
Ed Morrissey has read the reports and notes …
In looking at the table on the last page of the report, it becomes clear that New Hampshire and the federal government directed the money primarily at politically sensitive government jobs. Over two-thirds of the jobs are in the Department of Education, and another 745 in “government services.” Directing the money there allowed New Hampshire to avoid the politically difficult job of downsizing and streamlining in response to the downturn in revenues during the recession. The White House can claim that they saved the job of teachers, police officers, and firefighters whose jobs were never in jeopardy, and New Hampshire avoided cutting jobs elsewhere by shifting the money to cover budget shortfalls.
In California, reports the Sacramento Bee Many California jobs 'saved' by stimulus funds weren't in jeopardy.
In a required state report to the federal government, the university system said the $268.5 million it received in stimulus funding through October allowed it to retain 26,156 employees.
That total represents more than half of CSU's statewide work force. However, university officials confirmed Thursday that half their workers were not going to be laid off without the stimulus dollars.
"This is not really a real number of people," CSU spokeswoman Clara Potes-Fellow said. "It's like a budget number."
Meanwhile millions have lost real jobs, numbers that reflect real hardship and real loss while Obama government officials apply false statistical lip gloss to unemployement that threatens to equal the Great Depression.
I know of many people who have lost their jobs in the private sector, workers in retail shops, in construction, in the local Ford truck plant, and most recently over 1100 are losing their jobs at an International Paper plant in Windsor, Virginia. I just don’t see that many teachers, police and firemen whose jobs are in danger.
When the AP dug into the initial data supporting the claims of “jobs created or saved” they found …
An early progress report on President Barack Obama's economic recovery plan overstates by thousands the number of jobs created or saved through the stimulus program, a mistake that White House officials promise will be corrected in future reports.
The government's first accounting of jobs tied to the $787 billion stimulus program claimed more than 30,000 positions paid for with recovery money. But that figure is overstated by least 5,000 jobs, according to an Associated Press review of a sample of stimulus contracts.
The AP review found some counts were more than 10 times as high as the actual number of jobs; some jobs credited to the stimulus program were counted two and sometimes more than four times; and other jobs were credited to stimulus spending when none was produced.
For example:
- A company working with the Federal Communications Commission reported that stimulus money paid for 4,231 jobs, when about 1,000 were produced.
- A Georgia community college reported creating 280 jobs with recovery money, but none was created from stimulus spending.
- A Florida child care center said its stimulus money saved 129 jobs but used the money on raises for existing employees.
This is serious stuff. Many people who lose their jobs don’t have a fat nest egg to fall back on. When the $787 billion dollar “stimulus” bill produces this kind of eyewash, Hell should break out. Instead, the media notes and passes on. If the Washington Post spent even part of the ink that they devoted to smearing George Allen as a racist for uttering “macaca” or to writing about Virginia Governor-elect Bob McDonnell’s college papers, the government may actually begin spending some money on “shovel ready” jobs. But that would be too much to ask of people who legs still tingle at the thought of Obama and who swallow the lie that the government can measure a job saved. Perhaps a little more time spent asking where those “shovel ready” jobs are would help create them. But then, the MSM would be helping working people – who attend “tea party” rallies - and that changes the complexion of things.

NY Times: Fort Hood Massacre American's Fault
The shootings at Fort Hood , however, pose a different problem for the president, by shining a spotlight on the tensions Muslims feel inside the United States.
The score at Ft. Hood so far: Muslims 13, Non-muslims 0.
Muslim Veterans Group Says No Reports of Harassment of Islamic Soldiers
A Muslim veteran affairs organization says it has not received reports of harassment from Islamic soldiers, contrary to claims by a relative of the man authorities say is responsible for the worst mass killing on a U.S. military base.
Abdul-Rashid Abdullah, deputy director of the American Muslim Armed Forces and Veterans Affairs Council, told FoxNews.com that the nonprofit group has not received a single report recently of a U.S. soldier being harassed "simply because he was Muslim."
"That kind of report is inconsistent with what we've heard," Abdullah said prior to a press conference in Washington to denounce Thursday's shooting at Fort Hood, Texas, that left 13 dead and 38 wounded. Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, a 39-year-old Army psychiatrist who was reportedly due to be deployed later this month, is accused in the mass shooting.
