Global Warming update

You mean that the guy who shot tow cops in Ferguson wasn't a white supremacist trying to start a a race war?

Unfortunately for the narrative, it appears that's not the case. But it may not convince the MSM whose explanation of everything Ferguson has gone from breathless reporting about Ferguson police targeting blacks for murder to breathless reporting about Ferguson police targeting blacks for traffic tickets. It is now the received wisdom, even on Right-wing media.

According to press reports, the suspect has confessed to the shootings but insists he was aiming at some rival criminal rather than police. The suspect’s lengthy records of run-ins with the law suggests he just might be stupid enough to attempt a murder of a rival criminal in the middle of a protest rally and wind up striking two of the many law enforcement officers present instead, but the county attorney says that “We’re not sure we buy that part of it,” and it also strikes us as unlikely. Far more likely is the obvious conclusion that the shooter was motivated by an animus toward the police, and that he took the protesters’ chants for the murder of police to heart. Similar chants during the protests in New York City that followed another black man’s death at the hands of police there were answered with the murders of two officers, and those who have been encouraging the protests are understandably concerned that an outbreak of shootings against law enforcements will not win public support, which explains why some of the agitators are reaching for such far-fetched explanations as white supremacists trying to start a race war.
...
The anti-police protests, though, have too frequently indulged in rhetoric that seems calculated to provoke the movement’s most violent elements. Not just the recent chants about dead cops and the rap music that has been calling for the murder of police officers for years, but in its embrace of lies about a particular cop in Ferguson gunning down a “gentle giant” who was kneeling with his hands up. This lie was advanced at the highest levels of the federal government, with the White House sending emissaries to the funeral and the Justice Department helping to organize the protesters even as it launched an investigation in the Ferguson police department, as well as prominent print and electronic news organizations. It was a lie calculated to inflame the passions of neighborhoods already rife with violence and criminality, and those who told it share in the responsibility for two more brave police officers being shot.

The Virginian Pilot Wants You to Pay More at the Pump.

Is there a group of people more anxious to collect more taxes than politicians?

Why yes, gentle reader.  The people who insist that your tax burden is too light and that the failure to shovel more money into the maws of ever-expanding government coffers is bad are the editors of the Virginian Pilot.

While the headline on the paper version is “OOPS,” the e-version screams that the Virginia legislature failed – in the Virginian Pilot’s version of its duty – to force you to pay more tax at the pump.  Mistake may cost area $10M a year in road money and refers to it as a “goof.”

… lawmakers apparently goofed and failed to guard against falling fuel prices two years ago when they created a regional tax.

Now it is certainly possible that the Virginia legislature did not take falling gasoline prices into account when it added a regional tax to a state tax on the price of fuel.  But the emphasis on the tax collector’s coffers rather than the tax payer’s purse is typical of the people who run the Virginian Pilot.

The Virginian Pilot is reliably Liberal (or Progressive, take your pick).  Totally committed to the religion of Global Warming™ they regularly predict that Norfolk is going to sink beneath he waves unless Global Warming™ is halted.  We have not seen that many stories on the inundation of Norfolk recently, the region having suffered through one of the coldest winters in memory.  But we are confident that if summer ever gets here the Virginian Pilot will blame it on Global Warning™ and demand the end of fossil fuels.  The alternative is to head for higher ground.

One who will not heed that is billionaire Frank Batten, Jr. whose Landmark Media owns the Virginian Pilot and whose waterfront home is surely going to be under water if his employees are right.

And while today’s paper also refers to the Norfolk mayor’s city owned luxury auto in a tone of outrage, the over-all editorial position of the paper is that government is both more trustworthy, wiser and more efficient than the private sector.

Today’s paper features Virginia Secretary of Transportation Aubrey Lane who uses the opportunity to tell us how wise his administration is, how bad the previous administration was, and how bad public-private partnerships are.

The Virginia Pilot also fans the embers of racism by regularly publishing Eugene Robinson – a one note columnist whose focus on race borders on the pathological - who tells the Virginian Pilot readers that racism is still alive in white hearts because a couple of college freshmen sang a song using the "N" word; in other words, using words that are found in the lyrics of much of the music produced by members of Robinson’s own race.  For Robinson the town of Ferguson is the heart of darkness and that police officers were shot from ambush because “feelings are running high.”  Quite a number of by-standers are beginning to wonder who is really the racist: the Liberals –white and black - for whom “racist” is the one go-to epithet that can be used to slander people they don’t like, or frat boys who sing songs?

And here's a delicious bit of irony.  It fulminates against Dominion Resources for failing to be transparent enough, noting that:
Dominion, [is] the state's biggest electric utility and biggest corporate political donor,
Note the word "corporate" modifying the term donor.  In true Clintonian fashion, the Virginian Pilot fails to note that the biggest contributors to Virginia's politicians are not corporations but private individuals.  And that includes and that includes Frank Batten, Jr.s own father.

So we can be sure that the Virginian Pilot will urge that more taxes be collected from you at the pump, at the store and where you work.  But except for penny-ante issues like the mayor's car, there will never be a call for government to live withing its means.   Not even Jesus, who hung out with sinners, loves tax collectors more than the press.

Walker in New Hampshire via DRUDGE

Why utopian dreams inevitably become totalitarian nightmares.

As Milan Kundera memorably puts it in The Book of Laughter and Forgetting: “Once the dream of paradise starts to turn into reality…people begin to crop up who stand in its way. And so the rulers of paradise must build a little gulag on the side of Eden. In the course of time this gulag grows ever bigger…while the adjoining paradise gets even smaller and poorer.”

Academia is the canary in the coalmine.

Charlie Hebdo were all true to life followers of the Church of Leftism

The Left and cultural suicide.

The employees, artists, writers and editors of Charlie Hebdo were all true to life followers of the Church of Leftism. They were devout atheists and eagerly embraced all the tenets of liberalism. They, like so many of their fellow countrymen, voted to implement those policies that are the hallmark of the modern leftist. Among them being gun control and unfettered immigration.

The plot thickens, and we begin to see how they set themselves up for a reality check on the nature of evil in our world. By being proponents of an all-inclusive, “Everybody’s Welcome” immigration policy, and averting their eyes from the insular, closed and secretive communities of their new Muslim neighbors, France eagerly opened the front door and invited it’s executioner to dinner. The French hen-house believed with every ounce of its leftist being that it could live in peaceful harmony with the Islamic fox.

But then, with a force of will usually reserved for the truly suicidal, France has a long-standing philosophy, voted on and demanded by the people, of civilian disarmament. There is no concept of a Second Amendment in France. If the police do not get there in time, Pierre is dead. Jacques is dead.

And oftentimes, the regular beat cop in France is also disarmed, so as not to upset the populace with scary guns. As such, we witnessed the execution of a French Police Officer. Imagine that in America, a cop completely unable to defend himself; all of the authority of a badge, but none of the necessary force to back it up. The French people have purposefully and collectively decided that the concept of self-defense does not belong to them; instead, abdicating their rights to the government elite to protect them. And a government will always fail as it can only respond after the fact.

So what we saw last week was a truly gruesome, horrific series of murders, perpetrated to silence critics of Muhammad. It was a truly despicable murderous rampage by demon-possessed monsters. It was also a suicide. A suicide performed by a nation and a culture who thinks so little of themselves that they will eagerly allow monsters to be their neighbors and lay down their weapons as a gesture of submission.

Although it was Muhammad that pulled the trigger, it was Charlie that handed him a loaded gun.

"The ultimate power in the universe"

Here’s a great illustration of how this station is now the ultimate power in the universe  the Liberal media dominates the conversation.   Nearly half the Senate signed an open letter to Tehran and it took less than a week for the Conventional Wisdom™ to call it everything from treason to a mistake.  Republican signers are backing away from it and a bimbette at The Federalist is calling its stupid.  The Republican circular firing squad is, as usual, working overtime.

Mostly Peaceful Protesters Shoot Two Police Officers, One in the Shoulder, One Peacefully in the Face

In Ferguson.
I'm thinking we just wall this area off and let them "police themselves."

Number of questions Obama and Hillary Clinton will face about this incident: Zero

The left is having spasms that people on the right are suggesting that these shootings just might be the result of a viciously false narrative peddled by the radical left, the President, and their fellow travelers in the media.

In every other shooting, the left goes looking for the toxic politics that animated the shooting, and tries to connect it with a politician's words; here, they're aghast that anyone would be so gauche to do that.

The press is calling these riots "mostly peaceful."

For the Royal Obamas, cost is no object.

Hillary and the Press' dilemma

The press is reliably Democrat but they are treating Hillary as if she were a Republican.

People on this side of the political spectrum are wondering ... why?

There are several possibilities, but the e-mail scandals are the least likely.  The press gave her a pass on Benghazi when she blamed four dead Americans on a video.  They dismissed the way she turned $1000 into $100,000 in cattle futures by "reading the Wall Street Journal."  The sudden re-appearance of the Rose Firm billing records was a one-day wonder.  The press just chuckled at the bimbo eruptions.  Laundering millions from foreign governments through the Clinton foundation was no big deal.

So what's different?

It may just be that the press realized that Hillary is an old face from the past and could just lose the next presidential election to someone with something new to offer.  She has no positive achievements. She's not likable.   Her financial greed doesn't play well to the populist crowd.  So the press may just be trying to kill her chances at the Democrat nomination so they can create a new legend for a newly minted candidate.  While the press would secretly prefer an avowed socialist like Bernie Sanders, he may be too hard to sell to the American people.  But Elizabeth Warren is definitely to their tastes.

And if they don't kill Hillary's lock on the nomination, they will dutifully get in line and let bygones be bygones.  In any election the press' choice will always be the Democrat.

2 officers shot in Ferguson

Given the racial polarization since Obama was elected, this is not unexpected.

FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) — Two officers were shot during a protest in front of the Ferguson Police Department early Thursday, authorities said, as demonstrators gathered following the resignation of the embattled police chief of the St. Louis suburb.

A 32-year-old officer from nearby Webster Groves was shot in the face and a 41-year-old officer from St. Louis County was shot in the shoulder, St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar said at a news conference. Both were taken to a local hospital, where Belmar said they were conscious. He said he did not have further details about their conditions but described their injuries as “serious.”

“I don’t know who did the shooting, to be honest with you,” Belmar said, adding that he could not provide a description of the suspect or gun.

Letter to "Special Report" - Fox News with Bret Baier

I am a regular viewer of your program. In fact, I record it in case I don't get home in time to catch the beginning. I especially like the panel discussion at the end.

There is one subject that puzzles me.

It was part of today's panel discussion, but it's something that surfaces often. The issue if often framed like this: "If Congress does "X" and results in "Y" the Republicans will get blamed."

In this evening's discussion I believe that someone asserted that if negotiations with Iran don't result in an agreement, the Republicans will get blamed because of the letter they wrote to the leaders of Iran.

Given that the latest polls indicate that over half the American people do not approve of the administration's handling of ISIS or Iraq, why doesn't one of the panelists ask: "Who is this entity that will blame the Republicans ... to their detriment?" Given that one of the panelists is a member in good standing of the MSM (NPR?) I realize that may strike a little close to home, But you have a fairly articulate bunch of panelist and I would suggest that the unknown entity that blames Republicans for standing in the path of progress should be identified.

I am not persuaded that a poll of Americans - rather than members of the media - would show that a deal with Iran that allows them to continue to enrich uranium and eventually build a nuclear bomb would "blame" the Republicans. I am not persuaded that a poll of Americans - rather than the audience of NPR - would have a negative opinion of Congress if they held up funding for that part of DHS that is used to implement Obama's immigration policy.

I find it strangely telling that even Fox News personnel fall into the belief that policies that are opposed to the MSM will get a negative reaction from the American people.

This is 2015.  Fox is the leading cable news network and Rush Limbaugh has the top radio show. The alphabet networks are losing their audience.  Newspapers are struggling to survive.   Weekly news magazines are sold for $1.  It's as if you do not believe in your own slogans that "Fair and balances" is a passing fad.  It's as if you doubt your ability to to impact the public conversation.

That's disappointing. But keep up the good work nevertheless.

Thanks for listening.

Voters see Hillary and Jeb as old hat

That's because they are.
A majority of voters see 2016 frontrunners Hillary Clinton (D) and former Fla. Gov. Jeb Bush (R) as a “return to the policies of the past,” according to a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll that shows the potential perils for each party’s biggest names.
These are the faces that will take over the helm of the Titanic and increase speed toward the iceberg.  The Ruling Class that got us here.
