Oh, Lord, another Liberal Infects Texas.

I’m sure Erica Douglass Is a perfectly fine human being. The fact that she’s a religious bigot doesn’t take away from that … unless you get on the subject of evolution. So don’t. And when you’re around her know that she likes life that’s laid-back and that she made a million dollars at age 26 selling her internet business. Now, having real money, she realizes that taxes and fees take it away from people like her; people who Barack Obama classify as millionaire and billionaires who own jets.

So this twenty-something millionaire has discovered the wonders of Libertarianism. She may not realize that the only Libertarian with national recognition is Ron Paul… who’s trying to run as a Republican. That’s because Paul (who Douglass thinks is a religious nut) realizes that Libertarians are not a viable party.

So Douglass is going to move to Austin, Texas, complete with her religious prejudices and her Liberal policies (with the exception of the taxes) and with her cohorts who move there with her will transform Texas into the hellhole that California has become.

Do you know why this will take place? Liberalism doesn’t start off as a power grab for your wallet. It starts off with the desire to help the downtrodden, help the environment, spend money to improve schools, build city parks and bike paths, help X, Y and Z. And if this doesn’t do it the problem is obviously that we’re not spending enough money on it. And each one of these wonderful initiatives will take only a few cents more per year; which is how California became the tax sucking hellhole that she’s trying to escape.

All this is unexceptional, and any politician who advocates for more of the same will get her vote, except … except if that politician is a Christian. That’s when he crosses the line and because he “doesn’t believe in evolution” he’s obviously not qualified to be on city council, much less be President, because if he takes office he’s going to … he’s where my imagination fails because I’m not sure what the consequences of a Christian who believes in God creating the heavens and the earth becoming President will do. But whatever the result, it’s obviously a character flaw that is much greater than sitting in Jeremiah Wright’s pews and making nice with home grown bombers like Bill Ayers. Obama’s problem was fiscal, not ideological.

Please stay in California. Infections should be isolated, not spread.

Earlier, the media were wondering if or when Sarah Palin would show up. All other candidates would have made sure that the media would be told far in advance when and where to gather. Palin is a force of nature and the media are her foil. she gathers strength from their hatred. She's the most unusual candidate in my lifetime.

Earlier today, President Obama gave yet another airy speech about the greatness of America, how we’re innovative, and how loves to see things with the stamp “Made In America” on them. I ranted about that speech as he delivered it, here. As he said that stuff about “Made In America,” his own administration is standing pat in the way of Americans making airliners, and Boeing is losing orders to its non-American competitors. Obama never bothered to address that glaring gap between what he says and what he does.

This president is all talk, and he means none of what he says. While he speaks loftily about bringing American jobs back, his own bureaucracies are unleashed in the service of killing American jobs. That’s not an opinion, it’s simply fact. And when American businesses point out that Obama’s bureaucracies are killing jobs, he ignores them....

And that’s because Barack Obama doesn’t care about jobs or the economy. He has consistently put his ideology ahead of all other considerations. He doesn’t care that the average American is struggling. He doesn’t care that his policies are killing their jobs. Barack Obama does not care about anything other than his own political views and goals, at all.

"Vote for me, I don't have a clue what to do."

Taranto wrote this about Elizabeth Warren's possible run for the Senate from Massachusetts:

Warren is spending the next few weeks considering running, according to a Massachusetts Democrat assisting her possible campaign. She posted an item to Blue Mass Group, an influential liberal blog for Bay Staters, to make it clear that she's at least considering running.

"In the weeks ahead, I want to hear from you about the challenges we face and how we get our economy growing again," she said. "I also want to hear your ideas about how we can fix what all of us--regardless of party--know is a badly broken political system."

Sounds as though her campaign slogan ought to be "Vote for me, I don't have a clue what to do."

Those of you following the barbaric rioting in Britain will not have failed to notice that a sizable proportion of the thugs are white, something not often seen in this country.

Not only that, but in a triumph of feminism, a lot of them are girls. Even the "disabled" (according to the British benefits system) seem to have miraculously overcome their infirmities to dash out and steal a few TVs.

Congratulations, Britain! You've barbarized your citizenry, without regard to race, gender or physical handicap!

With a welfare system far more advanced than the United States, the British have achieved the remarkable result of turning entire communities of ancestral British people into tattooed, drunken brutes.

I guess we now have the proof of what conservatives have been saying since forever: Looting is a result of liberal welfare policies. And Britain is in the end stages of the welfare state.

Ann recounts a number of compelling instances of the way the British welfare state has debauched it's citizens.

But like Louis XVI, British authorities are paralyzed by their indifference to their own civilization. A half-century of berating themselves for the crime of being British has left them morally defenseless. They see nothing about England worth saving, certainly not worth fighting for -- which is fortunate since most of their cops don't have guns.

It's going to take a generational change to fix this. Addictions die hard.

Don't you wonder who the 40% who support Obama are? "The Mystery of the Forty Percent."

It’s been a while since I’ve written a thriller, but I’ve finally been impelled to dust off the old fedora and channel my inner Phillip Marlowe (or Moses Wine) to unravel the mystery of just who are those forty percent or so who still favor Barack Obama in the polls.

With ONE (1) exception, none of the people I speak with regularly are supporters; on the contrary, the reactions I get range from dislike through fear to terror.  Simon again:

With the economy and the stock market tanking faster than the 1976 Buccaneers, anarchists, thugs, and eye doctors wreaking mayhem from London to Damascus, our foreign policy, energy policy, and every other policy somewhere between non-existent and imploded, the reputation of the United States lower than Lindsay Lohan’s shoe, and the perpetually-vacationing president putting Nero to shame when it comes to fiddling, you would think Obama’s popularity would be in the low naughts.

Look, there simply are not enough residents of New York's Upper West Side or newspaper editorial writers to make up 40% of the population. You can even add all the people on welfare and you still don't get to 40%.

Simon has an answer that's as good as any (channeling one of his private eye characters):

My habit [smoking Lucky Strikes]. That was just like politics. No one ever changes. Your father tells you you’re one thing … or maybe your mother … and that’s it. You’re that way forever — a Lucky smoker, staying away from Camels no matter what. Even if Camels have no nicotine and make you live to 120. You’re still with the Luckies.

No wonder all those clowns are sticking with Obama. He’s a fellow smoker too. They’re all addicted. Addicted to something so dated they might as well be smoking Luckies — or tana leaves. They can’t kick. They’ll never kick.

It makes sense. If you are addicted, to tobacco, alcohol, other drugs ... or a political orientation ... it takes more power than many people have to kick the habit. It usually takes a life-changing event, like the doctor telling you that you have lung cancer.

I won't talk about Obama with my friend who likes him. I know it would do no good, he's hooked on what Obama has. Reality is not nearly as compelling as addiction.

I suppose anything's possible: "Was CIA behind Operation Fast and Furious?"

The CIA’s motive is clear enough: The U.S. government is afraid the Los Zetas drug cartel will mount a successful coup d’etat against the government of Felipe Calderon.

Verizon Union Picketers Harrass Customers

A Quincy mom has disconnected her support for striking Verizon workers yesterday after a group of mouthy picketers surrounded non-union repairmen and turned a phone-line fix at her home into what she is calling a “ridiculous” protest scene.

“I looked in the street and there are picketers, 10 of them or more, doing a circle around the Verizon truck,” said Karen Austin, 64, a mother of five who lives on Forest Avenue. “Every time (the repairmen) would walk up to my house they would follow them. I couldn’t believe my eyes. This is ridiculous. Why are they picketing my house?”

Because they're stupid.

Good news: Despite economic apocalypse, Obama’s vacation still a go

If O is dead set on a little Vineyard frolicking while the global economy shudders, let him go. He knows the political risk of getting caught by a photographer playing hacky sack on a day when the market drops another 500 points. (It was down 519 today; two of the top 10 biggest Dow drops in market history have occurred within the past three days.) His approval rating’s already perilously close to breaking through the 40th-percentile floor; 73 percent say the country’s on the wrong track; and just one in four Americans still has confidence in the federal government to solve economic problems. The country’s given up on him and on Congress, so what would be accomplished by having him hang around the White House to watch Europe and the NYSE implode? If he wants to give a speech mumbling about “recommendations” for the economy that he plans to get around to issuing one of these days, he can do it from the beach. Have a blast, champ.

Going to fun places with a full staff on Air Force One is, after all, what being President is all about...  that, and partying with the stars in the White House...  and golf ... and Wagu beef.

The Crumbling Cult of Obama

The sight of a crumbling Cult of Obama—and with it the end of the progressive presidency—has many on the left so frustrated that they simply dismiss the very idea of ideological debate. To challenge the morality and rationality of Obamanomics only means you're bought, too stupid to know any better or, most likely, both. A slack-jawed hostage-taking saboteur.

Obama himself blamed the volatile stock market on the "prolonged debate over the debt ceiling...where the threat of default was used as a bargaining chip." So it's not the job-killing policy or another $4 trillion of debt in two years that's problematic; it's the insistence of elected officials to represent their constituents that's really killing America.

Following the lead of the Environmental Protection Agency, Education Secretary Arne Duncan recently used this imagined "dysfunction" as an excuse to try to unilaterally implement comprehensive education "reform" by bypassing law and using a waiver system. Why? "Right now," Duncan explained, "Congress is pretty dysfunctional. They're not getting stuff done."

Hate to break the news to you, Arne; for many Americans, stopping this administration from "getting stuff done" is getting stuff done.

Secretary.Geithner’s resignation in the face of a catastrophe would not only be an admission of failure. It would inevitably be the first step towards a change of policy. The introduction of new men is nearly always preparatory to the introduction of new measures. Geithner is a weakling. Had he been a man of strength, he would have resigned on an issue of principle when it became clear that his advice regarding economic policy was unwanted. In the current circumstances, President Obama needs – or thinks he needs – a weakling in Geithner’s post. The President could not find a reputable economist willing to take up office as Secretary of the Treasury today and not be listened to.

Where are the anti-war protesters?

Reason's Ira Stoll remarks about the dog that didn't bark: Record numbers of U.S. troops are dying under Obama, but the anti-war movement is nowhere to be found.

You don't have to go to George Bush supporters to find people who will tell you that anti-war protesters were political hacks; the formerly anti-war Left will admit it.

In a phone interview, the national coordinator of United for Peace and Justice, which organized some of the largest antiwar protests during the Bush administration, Michael McPhearson, said part of the explanation is political partisanship. A lot of the antiwar protesters, he said, were Democrats. “Once Obama got into office, they kind of demobilized themselves,” he said.

“Because he’s a Democrat, they don’t want to oppose him in the same way as they opposed Bush,” said Mr. McPhearson, who is also a former executive director of Veterans for Peace, and who said he voted for President Obama in 2008. “The politics of it allows him more breathing room when it comes to the wars.”

The Virginian Pilot reports on the deaths of the Seals in the crash in Afghanistan, but there is no anti-war sentiment that would have accompanied it if this had happened during a Republican administration.

It's also the reason there is almost no mention of the Obama fiasco in Libya. You remember, the war that Obama told us would be over in "days, not weeks."

How many Americans have died fighting Obama's wars?

The Obama administration is on pace to have more American soldiers killed in casualties related to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan than the George W. Bush administration did in its first term.

Already, hundreds more American troops have been killed in Afghanistan during the less than three years of the Obama administration than during the eight years of the George W. Bush administration.

Where is the Liberal outrage at the carnage? Where are the crusading reporters counting civilian deaths as they did during the Bush administration?

I supported Bush and his desire to transform the Middle East and strike at the Islamofascist heart. But this comment is simply a reminder that there really was no meaningful anti-war movement. Rather the war and the soldier's deaths were a cynical facade for Liberals to attack their political enemies using American dead as their props.

Racial doppelgangers, the same excuses

Within our lifetimes, we have seen mobs of racists rampaging. The faces change, as do the races, but the reactions remain the same.

When white mobs attacked blacks, many whites ignored it, some applauded it as rough justice, others acted in solidarity with those attacked, but most told themselves that these were not “white people” but racist individuals or small groups.

White mobs don’t rampage any more, black ones do. And in the black community most ignore it (what can we do?), some say it’s understandable retribution, and others tell us it’s not black mobs but “youths.”

Out of white violence an entire racial industry was created with Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, government departments and the faculty of the racial studies departments of most universities the primary beneficiaries. Will we see their racial doppelgangers?
