Georgia opens investigation into possible illegal ballot harvesting in 2020 election

True the Vote's complaint offered Raffensperger's office access to what are characterized as detailed phone records and surveillance video it said would show as many as 242 people repeatedly made trips to the drop boxes to deliver ballots in what it described as a mass "ballot trafficking operation." The aspect of the complaint that the secretary's office believed merited attention was the allegation the group had spoken to a man who admitted he and others engaged in ballot harvesting.

Using a tactic increasingly used by the FBI and the intelligence community to solve crimes or national security threats, the group said it bought commercially available geospatial mobile device data showing the locations of suspected ballot harvesters' cell phones in the vicinity of the ballot drop boxes at the times people appeared on the surveillance footage stuffing multiple ballots into a drop box.

[snip]

The phone data bought by True the Vote overlaid with video suggested 242 people engaged in a total of 5,662 ballot drops, an average of 23 runs per alleged harvester, the group alleged in the complaint.

The group told Raffensperger's office the video surveillance — though sometimes grainy and distant — showed numerous instances of people stuffing large numbers of ballots into the boxes, some with so many ballots in hand that some of the envelopes dropped to the ground. Some people were allegedly observed taking pictures of themselves at the boxes after delivering ballots, an action the group said may have been required to receive payments.

The group said many of the alleged drops — more than 40% of those observed on tape — occurred between the hours of midnight and 5 a.m., when most Georgians were asleep.

The group also said in its complaint it temporarily secured the cooperation of one person, identified in the complaint as John Doe, who admitted he participated in extensive ballot harvesting during the November 2020 election and Jan. 5 runoffs and was paid $10 for each ballot he collected from a voter and delivered to a box. The man did not appear to understand his harvesting activities were illegal, but his participation was verified by his repeated appearance on the surveillance tapes, the group said.

"John Doe described a network of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that worked together to facilitate a ballot trafficking scheme in Georgia," the group said in its complaint.

"John Doe's assignment included collecting ballots, both from voters in targeted neighborhoods and from NGOs that had their own ballot collection processes, delivering those ballots to other NGOs, picking up designated ballot bundles from the same group of NGOs, and depositing ballots into drop boxes spanning six counties in the metro Atlanta area," the group added.

"Each drop box delivery would typically include between 5 to 20 ballots," the complaint alleged. "John Doe described a payment validation process which involved taking cell phone pictures of the drop box where ballots were deposited."

The group's complaint did not identify John Doe by name, the nonprofits involved or other participants. Raffensperger's office is expected to use subpoenas to secure that specific information as part of the probe, officials said.

The harvesting allegations also are likely to refocus attention on the decision by Georgia and other states to distribute mobile drop boxes to collect ballots for the first time in the 2020 election as voters struggled with the pandemic and fears of voting in person.

Some critics have wrongly suggested Raffensperger created the use of drop boxes in Georgia out of whole cloth as part of a legal settlement he signed with Democratic voting activist Stacey Abrams and other advocates.

In fact, Georgia's law for years permitted counties to deploy absentee ballot drop boxes, but none did. "The board of registrars may establish additional sites … for the purpose of receiving absentee ballots," the existing law stated.

When liberal activists pressed in 2020 to get the boxes deployed, Raffensperger and the State Elections Board passed an emergency rule to add some protections, such as a requirement that the drop boxes be covered by surveillance cameras.

Ironically, it is that protection that gave rise to the evidence at the heart of True the Vote's complaint.

Trump Call Actually Reveals A President Deep Into Detail, With Establishment Republicans Dismissive, Unwilling, And Rejecting Transparency

“I don’t know about that… I don’t have it in front of me… we’re looking into that…”

These weren’t the vague, non-committal words of the President of the United States on the phone call leaked by theWashington Post newspaper – which has recently taken millions of dollars from the Chinese Communist Party – this Sunday. They were the statements of the establishment Republicans on the call: Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, Ryan Germany, and Deputy Secretary of State Jordan Fuchs on the January 2nd call....

Despite the partisan framing from the Washington Post – that the call somehow reflected Trump making demands for votes from his Republican colleagues – the President actually does no such thing. Throughout the call, the President makes clear that his calls are for election transparency, full and transparent audits, and public access. At no point does the President imply he wants votes invented or confected, as the establishment media is portraying. He even offers to recuse himself from parts of the conversation and ends by asking for “the truth… it’s just that simple.”....

Attorney Cleta Mitchell probably states it best during the call where she says: “…you can keep telling us and making public statement that you investigated this and nothing to see here. But we don’t know about that. All we know is what you tell us. What I don’t understand is why wouldn’t it be in everyone’s best interest to try to get to the bottom, compare the numbers, you know, if you say, because… to try to be able to get to the truth because we don’t have any way of confirming what you’re telling us. You tell us that you had an investigation at the State Farm Arena. I don’t have any report. I’ve never seen a report of investigation. I don’t know that is. I’ve been pretty involved in this, and I don’t know. And that’s just one of 25 categories.”

U.S. Warships Run the Gauntlet with Georgia Aid

From Wired:
The U.S. Air Force flew its first planeful of medical supplies to Georgia more than a week ago. Now the U.S. Navy is getting in on the humanitarian action, sending a flotilla of at least three American ships plus some friends via the Black Sea to deliver more aid to Georgia. What's interesting is the mix of ships involved.

Hidden Victories In Georgia

A Russia / Georgia war scorecard from Strategy Page:

August 17, 2008: Russian troops beat the Georgians on the ground, not so much because of superior numbers, but because the Russians had more troops with combat experience, and very recent experience in fighting this kind of war. The Russians got this way by fighting a successful campaign just across the border, in Chechnya
...
The Georgians did better in the air and at sea, even though they were greatly outnumbered there as well. Georgian warplanes shot up the Russians pretty badly (killing the commander of Russian ground forces, for example) before the Russians were able to shut down the Georgian air force. But in the process Russia lost at least four aircraft destroyed, and a number of others badly damaged.

At sea, Georgian missile boats hit several Russian warships, which had not been equipped with equipment, or crews, that were capable of dealing with this kind of threat. Two Russian warships were damaged sufficiently that they had to withdraw from the area. Within a few days, however, Georgia's miniscule navy and air force were destroyed, largely by the much larger Russian air force.

The Russians ran a large scale Information War campaign, shutting down Georgian access to the Internet for several days, and blanketing the world media, and Internet, with Russian spin on what was going on in Georgia and why.

The information war found ready believers and amplifiers in the West.
Robert Scheer, who has wandered too far into the fever swamps of the Left for even the LA Times tells us that Georgia war is a neocon election ploy
Leftist commentators are actually congratulating him for his courage to point it out.

UPDATE:

Napoleon once said that "when you set out to take Vienna, take Vienna." Putin failed that test and appears to be paying for it.

Germany now supports Georgia's NATO bid and Ukraine is to join the US missile shield in Europe. This is not what Putin wanted but it's what he got.

Rather than intimidating his neighbors, he has just made them concerned enough to huddle closer to the US.

And, his invasion of Georgia’s been good for the value of the dollar vs. other currencies.

How is the Left going to take this? It looks like clear vindication of Bush and McCain with Obama trotting along in their wake unable to do anything but say “me too.”

UPDATE 2: It occurred to me that Robert Scheer will be able to write his next column claiming vindication. See? The evil neocon plot worked!!

Russian soldier shooting Israeli journalists

Shooting reporters is quite the sport for Russians.

Where's the outrage? You had to ask?

It is to laugh! After all, the shooters are not Americans. If they were, the drive-by-media and John Murtha would be on the case. But let's not do anything to provoke the Russians.

Calm down, McCain!

Oh, here's another reporter being shot.

Russians Shoot Up SUV Filled with Journalists; Left, Reporters Strangely Silent

The headline reads: Russians Shoot Up SUV Filled with Journalists; Left, Reporters Strangely Silent

Well, no, not really. Totally expected. After all the shooters were not Americans and the invasion of Georgia was - according to the MSM - not the Russian's fault.

In fact, there is a good chance that the Russian media will report that the Turkish reporters started it and that the MSM will report this as a fact.

Update on the Russian Invasion of Georgia 8/16/2008

Russian convoy moves deeper inside Georgia
Reuters:
IGOETI, Georgia (Reuters) - A Russian military convoy advanced to a village 45 km (30 miles) from Tbilisi on Friday, in the deepest incursion since conflict with Georgia erupted last week.

The advance of about 17 armored personnel carriers (APCs) and about 200 soldiers coincided with a visit by U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to secure Georgia's signature on a French-brokered peace plan to end the fighting.

Rice tells Russia to quit immediately
Financial Times (London):
Tensions between Washington and Moscow took a new turn on Friday as Condoleezza Rice, US secretary of state, called on Russian troops to withdraw from occupied areas in Georgia “immediately”. She made the call after Mikheil Saakashvili, Georgian president, signed a new ceasefire agreement with Russia.

Her call came as Nicolas Sarkozy, French president, spoke to Dmitry Medvedev, his Russian counterpart, who agreed to sign the accord and said that Moscow would “scrupulously” respect the elements of the agreement, “notably those concerning the withdrawal of Russian forces”. However, the French statement gave no indication of when Mr Medvedev might sign the agreement.

Russian soldiers in bank job
NY Sun:
RUSSIAN soldiers have been caught on camera ROBBING a bank in war-torn Georgia. The band of gun-toting men were caught on CCTV forcing their way into the bank in Gori.

Once inside, the men are seen breaking into the teller offices and rifling through the desks.

They are then caught making off with what appear to be armfuls of equipment including laptop computers and perhaps even cash.

The outrage took place amid some of the bloodiest fighting in Gori, which is on Georgia’s main east-west highway.

Click here to see the video of the robbery.

This is par for the course for the Russian army. It's what they did during WW II in all the countries they over-ran. Then there was the rape and murder ...

In the meantime, the Russians are telling their people that this war was a plot cooked up by Vice President Cheney to help McCain get elected .... and the Democrats, and MSM agree!
You can't make this up.

The nutroots are calling this "Saakashvili's invasion." Tell me when he gets to Moscow.
