The American Evolution

 America, the world's "Melting Pot," has been transformed in my lifetime into America, the "Distillery."

America was described as a melting pot because people from many different nations and cultures came here for freedom and a better life.  They left the "old country" so they and their children could become Americans- a new culture.

At some point, America's culture changed.  Who changed it or when needs to be clarified.  But it spread from Academia, where America was defined by its faults.  Academia attracted and promoted the idea that America was conceived in sin.  In fact, according to the 1691 version of history, America's purpose was to perpetuate evil.

As a result, America, that great melting pot, was changed to a distillery.  

People once came to America to become Americans.  But instead of becoming Americans, forces in this country work to separate us into our component parts, like a distillery.

A distillery separates a liquid into smaller parts, each with its own identity.  Powerful individuals and institutions openly advocate for cultural war between people of different skin colors, genders, and beliefs. These forces have captured the heights of political power.  President Biden was doing that with his speech at Philadelphia's Independence Hall with its red lights and divisive bellowing.  

Pray to a merciful God that the good people of this country recapture to culture and find the love that was lost.

America’s elites are waging class war on workers and small biz

 

In America, class warfare is often disguised as culture war, and culture war is often cloaked by talk of race. But underneath it all, the class warfare is still there. Whether accidentally or intentionally, America’s upper classes seem to wind up harming the working class and small businesses, always in the name of some high-minded cause.

On immigration, for example, the go-to move is to call people who object to open borders racists and nativists. But what’s behind it? As Biden economic adviser Jared Bernstein commented: “A tight job market pressures employers to boost wage offers . . . One equally surefire way to short-circuit this useful dynamic is to turn on the immigrant spigot every time some group’s wages go up.” Immigration as a way of keeping working-class wages down.

Likewise, efforts to defund police or de-police neighborhoods are treated as anti-racism, but their actual, predictable effect is to make poor and working-class neighborhoods much less safe, in order to make wealthy woke activists feel good about themselves. Similarly, Anthony Lukas’ classic book, “Common Ground,” told the story of how wealthy white activists placed most of the burden of desegregating Boston’s public schools on poor black and white families, while those behind the policies retreated to leafy suburbs, far from the problems they had created, or made worse.

Now a report in The New York Times captures a microcosm of the class war that race-talk obscures. A black student at Smith College reported being abused because she was black, saying she was treated as if she didn’t belong on campus by a white janitor and campus police officer. Her complaints produced a speedy apology from Smith (“We always try to show compassion for everyone involved,” said Smith President Kathleen McCartney) and mandatory sensitivity training for staff, as well as — ironically — the creation of all-black and minority dormitories. As part of the anti-bias training, the school’s blue-collar employees, the Times reports, “found themselves being asked by consultants hired by Smith about their childhood and family assumptions about race, which many viewed as psychologically intrusive.” 

Then an outside investigation determined that, basically, it never happened. The campus police officer, the janitor and a cafeteria worker had been falsely tarred as racists, but they were not the beneficiaries of apologies, “compassion for everyone involved” or anything else. 

“Check your privilege” is a common term around higher education, but the notion that white janitors, cafeteria workers and campus police are “privileged” in that environment is not simply absurd, but monstrous. As Smith janitor Mark Patenaude told the Times, “We used to joke, don’t let a rich student report you, because if you do, you’re gone.”

Universities, and especially the woke parts of universities, speak of race more than class. And as the Smith incident illustrates, they seldom extend the exquisite sensitivities displayed on matters of race to questions of class discrimination. They barely admit such questions exist.Privilege is the ability to get an employee of many years punished simply by making a complaint, even a false one.  

And yet class war rages, even if people don’t want to talk about it. It’s not the Soviet-style class war, with “capitalists” on one side and “workers and peasants” on the other, but rather the educated “gentry class” (as demographer Joel Kotkin calls it) making life tough for the working class.

The gentry class is in firm control of most of the institutions in America, from big corporations, to media organizations, to, most especially, colleges and universities. The Democrats are the gentry class’ party, as the GOP increasingly becomes a diverse coalition of working-class and small-business people. And the gentry class is letting the working class have it.

Barack Obama boasted about driving coal mines into bankruptcy; Joe Biden tells miners they need to learn how to code. There’s talk of forgiving student-loan debt, which would effectively transfer wealth from high-school educated truck drivers to social workers with graduate degrees. Biden’s open-borders immigration policy will once again open the “immigrant spigot” to push working-class wages down. Piling ruin upon ruin.

And just as at Smith, they don’t care who’s hurt, so long as they can strike a pose. Is all this accidental? Or is it the product of hostility toward what Hillary Clinton called the “deplorables?” On the receiving end, does it really matter?

There is a sinister similarity between the Cult of Mao and Woke Culture

 The ongoing cultural revolution in much of the West has not yet achieved the absurdity of the Mao religion of 1967–69. Yet so-called “Wokeness” has the characteristics of a religion bent on the extirpation of heretics, as Joseph Bottum, Jamil Jivani, and Michael Vlahos, have observed. No wonder that some of the new religion’s adherents vandalized, desecrated, and burned churches and synagogues.

In America in 2020 as in China in 1966, ultra-left rage mobs have been allowed to riot, assault, loot, and pillage, as David Bernstein describes in “The Right to Armed Self-Defense in the Light of Law Enforcement Abdication.” The modern violent ultra-left is mostly above the law, including pandemic laws against mass gatherings.

As in China, the mobs do not target only the heretics. Anyone can be attacked for no reason at all—the better to terrorize the population into submission. Thus, mobs purporting to care about racial justice demolish apolitical small businesses owned by blacks; business that try to mollify the rioters by putting up signs of political support receive no mercy.

It’s easy to lose one’s livelihood over nothing, like the Hispanic truck driver fired for cracking his knuckles, which a Twitter mob interpreted as a white power symbol. Or for indirectly casting doubt on the mobs; an employee of a data company was fired for retweeting a study showing that peaceful protests are more effective than riots in achieving political objectives. (Both incidents are detailed in Yascha Mounk’s “Stop Firing the Innocent” essay for The Atlantic.) People who dare to criticize Black Lives Matter Global Foundation, Inc.—or who fail to praise it sufficiently—may quickly find themselves unemployed and unemployable.

School curricula and libraries are being “decolonized” by the elimination of classic books such as Mildred Taylor’s “Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry,” a black woman’s history of her family in Jim Crow Mississippi.

Today’s cultural revolution, like Mao’s, is top-down and led by the most privileged university graduates and students. They have worked themselves into self-righteous fury against the unawokened lower classes.

As in 1966, modern iconoclasts deface and destroy all statues with equal zeal: abolitionists, animals, 9/11 firefighters, Indians, Union soldiers in the Civil War, Ulysses Grant, and Abraham Lincoln all get the same treatment as Confederates. Although the destroyers may not have heard of Lin Biao’s exhortation to “Smash the Four Olds,” they implicitly understand that building the “anti-capitalist” new order they want requires the obliteration of the memory of all that come before: old ideas, old culture, old customs, and old habits.

An important difference between China in 1966 and the West today is that the rage mobs and their more sedentary allies do not yet control all means of communication—but the space for dissent is considerably narrower than it was just a little while ago. Unlike China, we don’t have a formal Socialist Education Campaign in every classroom—but we have something similar in more and more educational institutions, from pre-schools through university.

And at least in the United States, many do have the practical means to resist mob violence; professor Bernstein’s article collects numerous examples. But the exercise of lawful self-defense may still lead to criminal charges by prosecutors aligned with the extreme left.

China’s Cultural Revolution began to end in 1976 when Mao died, and the pragmatic totalitarians staged a coup that removed the more idealistic totalitarians. Will the people of the Anglosphere have to wait that long, or longer, for rescue? Or will the hundreds of millions of people who don’t support the totalitarian ultra-left emancipate themselves from mental slavery? Will they end the reign of terror of today’s Maoists?

In the Trump years the sector of society we used to describe as liberal America became a giant finger-wagging machine. The news media, academia, the Democratic Party, show-business celebrities and masses of blue-checked Twitter virtuosos became a kind of umbrella agreement society, united by loathing of Trump and fury toward anyone who dissented with their preoccupations.

Because Conventional Wisdom viewed itself as being solely concerned with the Only Important Thing, i.e. removing Trump, there was no longer any legitimate excuse for disagreeing with Conventional Wisdom’s takes on Russia, Julian Assange, Jill Stein, Joe Rogan, the 25th amendment, Ukraine, the use of the word “treason,” the removal of Alex Jones, the movie Joker, or whatever else happened to be the #Resistance fixation of the day.

When the Covid-19 crisis struck, the scolding utopia was no longer abstraction. The dream was reality! Pure communism had arrived! Failure to take elite advice was no longer just a deplorable faux pas. Not heeding experts was now murder. It could not be tolerated. Media coverage quickly became a single, floridly-written tirade against “expertise-deniers.” For instance, the Atlantic headline on Kemp’s decision to end some shutdowns was, “Georgia’s Experiment in Human Sacrifice.”

There's nothing liberating about liberalism.

Despite what Richard Weaver so eloquently tells us, ideas don't matter, not at all. What matters is power. And power, indeed, has consequences.

There is no need to debate ideas when all the Right Ideas are already known, already catalogued, indexed, memorized, and endlessly regurgitated. Argument is pointless when you simply OWN all the right answers. True Believers in the very best Eric Hoffer sense, the Truth the Progressive Left preaches is one revealed only by Dogma.

Climate change burns Australia, mudslides California, and endlessly tornadoes the Plains. Men can become women and women men; they simply have to think it so. Of course ALL restrooms should contain tampon dispensers (only a bigot would believe otherwise). A kiss is not just a kiss -- it is a sexual assault. The best way to end racial discrmination (pardon me Chief Justice!) is absolutely to continue to discriminate on the basis of race. Guilt is blood-borne; equally victimhood. Merit is a lie. Quality is injustice. Inclusivity is everything (save for all those bad racist, sexist, patriarchal, male, cis-gendered, heteronormative capitalists -- them we MUST exclude: "Lean Back All You Evil People, and SHUT-UP!" (Senator Hirono sez so!).

Go down the list. Pull the Chatty Cathy cord. The answers come out embossed, and stamped indelibly on every Progressive talking head: homosexuality is just a more likable form of normal (did we mention the higher lesbian orgasm rate?) Can we start a Drag Queen reading hour? Disparate Impact reveals always systemic, micro-aggressive, subconcsious bias (and there's nothing you can do about it). To be colorblind is to be racist. Fossil Fuels are sins. Logic is oppression. Standards are hatred. These lists of Correct Thoughts are endless.

And everything's a litmus test. Tell us how you feel about Colin Kapernick's knee....Al Franken's tongue....the number of Black headcoaches in the NFL today.... and the fact that the American College Quad is the most dangerous place in the world to be a woman. Tell us if you went to see Little Women. Tell us about Affirmative Consent. Tell us what is NOT toxic about masculinity (be careful, that's a trick question!).

Ideas? Hell, ideas have absolutely nothing to do with anything in the socio-political swamp.
But being a card-carrying Progressive Party member who can recite chapter and verse (Trump is the Devil! Say it again!)....that's priceless.

People Are Filtering Political Noise Out

It's a coping mechanism for normal people when the culture celebrates insanity.

This is a power struggle.

President Trump does not just fight. He wins. He took the battle to the liberals. You cannot have a Cultural Civil War if one side refuses to fight back.

Hanson wrote, "In a way, the left-wing Democratic presidential candidates understand Trump best. If he wins his one-man crusade to stop the progressive project, they are finished, and their own party will make the necessary adjustments and then sheepishly drift back toward the center."

Bring it on. Our numbers grow stronger. Winning is a magnet.

Democrats bite on burgers and straws

2020 presidential hopefuls fall for the GOP's culture war trap.

Democrats’ verbal targeting of everything from plastic straws to cheeseburgers is stoking fears among anti-Trump forces that they’re unwittingly playing into Republican culture wars.

Hitler blamed the Poles for beginning the war. Politico thinks that Republicans pushing back against Democrat's aggression is the reason for the culture war.

Ace of Spades

The coup to take out candidate Trump and then President Trump is exactly the same as this, or more to the point, this is merely an extension of it. On the granular level, the courts since perhaps the time of Marbury and most definitely since the FDR administration were where the Left went to ram down our collective throat all of their insane policies that never stood a chance at the ballot box. And once ruled the law of the land, it was forever etched in stone. So now that the courts are gradually realigning themselves back towards justices who swear loyalty to the Constitution and not the Communist Manifesto, plus a detectable undercurrent of popular revulsion for the purveyors of same, there can only be one recourse for the Left: De-legitimization. And that goes hand in hand with the ongoing de-legitimization of American history, western civilization, the Scottish Enlightenment, Judeo-Christian morals and values and all that goes with it.

Whether the Left's leaders see and understand their 100-plus year slow motion hijacking of the nation is possibly slipping through their grasp or truly believe their own agitprop about the evil of America is irrelevant. The end result is still the same; a growing threat of lawlessness up to and including the use of violence to maintain the power they have and perhaps attempt a grand coup.

From shooting unarmed lawmakers at a softball field and nearly beating them to death on their front lawns to confronting them in restaurants, threatening their families and children or smearing them to such an extent as to virtually ruining their careers and livelihoods, the Left has declared war on us. And, gentle reader, they are coming for you. Masterpiece Cake Shop, Memories Pizza and now "social credit scoring" are the tip of the iceberg. They will not leave us alone. We will be made to cheer them on and woe to anyone who stops applauding first. We are all Brett Kavanaugh now. High time we wake up to that fact.

A war doesn’t start until somebody fights back.

Somebody once made a movie "Suppose  they gave a war and nobody came?"

There is a very common misconception about war.  The beginning of a war is generally marked by an attack, invasion or other aggressive moves by a country.  But a war can’t start until the aggressor meets resistance.  A brawl usually begins when somebody throws a punch.  But unless the person getting punched hits back it’s not a fight, it’s just somebody taking a beating.

The Twentieth Century is known for war.  But when Germany invaded Austria in 1938 and Czechoslovakia in 1939 we don't refer to the German-Austria war or the German-Czechoslovakian war because there was no resistance.  No resistance = no war.

In late 1938 British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain held up a treaty with Hitler declaring “peace in our time” which led to the Czechs surrender without a fight.  

World War 2 began in 1939 when Germany and the USSR invaded Poland and the Poles fought back with the backing of England and France.  Had the Polish armed forced not resisted, historians may well have classified 1939 as a year of peace. 

The Civil War is instructive.  When the Southern states began seceding from the Union in 1860 there was peace.  It was not until Abraham Lincoln ordered the military to resist the takeover of Fort Sumter that the Union and the Confederacy were at war.  

This is important and it applies to what is happening in the country today.  It’s why my hackles rise when I hear that President Trump is responsible for the open hatred and disunity in this country.  We may as well blame the Poles for World War 2 and Lincoln for the Civil War.  

There has been an ideological assault on America and its culture for decades.  Every nation has its malcontents.  But the Communist ideology, imported from the Soviet Union and its adherents had a major impact on our culture.  When war began in Europe, Communists in this country opposed military support for Britain in its fight against the Nazis until the day Hitler invaded Russia.  The American Left beat the drums for war only when Communism and Stalin were in danger.    

The Left blamed America for the Cold War.  For decades after the end of World War 2 they were dismissed as an irritant by the vast majority of the American people, the people I’ll call “Normal.”  Normals loved America, its founding, and saw it as a force for good in the world.  But gradually the Left began to dominate the culture, capturing the press, entertainment, and academia.  Normal people found themselves, their history and their belief in freedom and individual initiative under attack.   

Obama, the archetype of the Left, told Americans “you didn’t build that.”   He accused normal Americans of bigotry,  calling them "bitter clingers."  Hillary called them deplorable and irredeemable and the Liberal fans who could afford $1000-a-plate-dinners laughed and cheered.   

It's now understood by all "right-thinking" people that white heterosexual males are what’s wrong with the world. 

The Black editor-in-chief of the New York Times decreed that black slaves built America while whites sat idly by when they are not raping, pillaging, plundering and burning crosses.  Democrat members of Congress supported Islamic terrorists, the extinction of Israel and supported those who want to exterminate Jews.  These are not "fringe" views, they are held by very important people, some even running for President. 

And us Normals didn’t find ourselves with any meaningful defenders.  Mocked by Conrad Black as the OBushinton political establishment we gradually came to realize that all members of the Ruling Class - Democrat and Republican - approved of the assault on Normals.   The Tea Party was seen as a threat by both parties.

 Republicans gave us lip service when they courted our vote but were careful never to actually do anything to support our values while in office.  If we called them out on their failure to deliver on their promises, they whined that they just didn’t have the votes and asked for money for the next election when they promised - pinkie swear – that next time they would keep their pledges.  But next time never came because it was all a show; “boob bait for Bubba” as Moynihan so eloquently put it.   

 The Bushes exemplified the Republican version of the Ruling Class that basically agreed with the Zeitgeist.  Bush 1’s “Kinder and Gentler” slogan was actually a slap at the Reagan era.  Bush 2 inadvertently presided over 9/11 and once the Iraq war became a quagmire stood by supinely while the Left branded him a warmongering Hitler-wanna-be.  John McCain was the press’ favorite Republican as long as the “Maverick” attacked Conservatives.  His running mate, Sarah Palin, was knifed in the back by McCain staff while the press stabbed her from the front.  Once McCain became the Republican nominee the press slimed him as an over-the-hill adulterer.  Romney was such a Boy Scout that he allowed himself to be double-teamed in a political debate by Obama and moderator Candy Crowley.  Publications that pretended to resist the Left’s cultural onslaught like National Review and Weekly Standard were so anxious to join the Left’s juggernaut that they denounced the Normals as heatedly as any on the Left as soon as Normals left the reservation.   

Normals were told that their customs and beliefs were not just wrong but illegal.  Gay marriage was created by an edict of the Ruling Class.  Normals were required not just to be tolerant but join in the celebration.  Bake them a cake, host their wedding pizza party or be held up to public humiliation and watch your business destroyed.  

People who think there are only two genders are classified as haters who hate, hate, hate.  Joe Biden was recently asked how many genders there were and his reply - “3” - was roundly mocked.  There is no “Woke” right answer.  Whatever your reply, it’s going to be wrong tomorrow and you will be denounced by the gender police.

Men dressed as women were suddenly transformed from mental cases to a protected class with their own letter in a growing alphabet of celebrated perversions.  Normal people go to a public bathroom designated for men or women and expect to see a member of the same sex there.  Wrong again, Buffalo Breath!  If you expect that, you’re pilloried as a bigot and will be exposed and boycotted by a new class of culture warriors who will scream at you and drive you out of restaurants after spitting in your face.    

There are very few people roaming the country who are mentally unstable enough to disown their own sexual organs.  The larger game is a power play by culture warriors to demonstrate their ability to destroy Normals.  They will smash the statue of your fallen hero to demonstrate their power in exactly the same way as the Taliban do in the territory they control; because they can.  It's cultural rape and, like sexual rape,  it’s done to show dominance.  They revel as Normals are forced to stand by.  Vikings, Vandals and other barbarians throughout history have done the same thing as they pillaged and plundered people that didn't have the ability or the will to resist.   

   

There’s a similarity between the Left’s onslaught and Nazi ideology.  Hitler’s “Mein Kampf” published in 1925 is an indictment of Jews for the ills that the Germans suffered following World War 1.  In 2019 the leading American newspaper, the New York Times, began the 1691 Project claiming that Black slaves built America and Whites are responsible for all its faults.   Nothing could be more Hitlerian than this.  

In Donald Trump, the American people have the first leader who is willing and able to lead them in resisting the onslaught of the Left in its attack on Normals.  He is willing to engage the Culture War.     

 His style is counter-attack and he gives with the same gusto and brutality as his attackers.  It shocked them at first, accustomed as they are to Republicans cowering when attacked.  The "polite" part of the Democrat Party began by calling him "un-Presidential."  The others went straight for calling him a mass murderer - worse than Stalin, Hitler and Mao - and accused him of stealing the election in collusion with Vladimir Putin.   In a very real way, Trump has driven the Leftist aggressors insane.  Failing to drive him from office via the Deep State's "insurance policy" they have become unhinged.  They are now saying that people using “reasonable” arguments are slaveholders.  

It remains to be seen if Trump, who is unique in the political world, will prevail or will be over-run by a horde of totalitarian Luddites who worship strange beliefs about the earth.  After all, the Poles were defeated after being double-teamed by two of the most despotic regimes in modern history.  But he fights, and so far he has prevailed in the face of the fires of Hell deployed by every sector of the Ruling Class against him.  We have an actual culture war instead of a Left-wing gang rape of the American culture thanks to Trump.  God works in mysterious ways his wonders to perform. 

How Popular Discontent Is Reshaping Higher Education Law

In recent years, Democrats have become slightly more positive about higher education. Concurrently, Republicans have become extremely more negative, and a majority of Republicans now tells pollsters that colleges and universities have an overall negative effect on the country.

Oberlin College is a microcosm of our society. The governing class can’t comprehend the concerns of the proles, assuming the proles must therefore be motivated by racism, white supremacy, sexism, patriarchy, Naziism, fascism, etc., etc., etc., by all things bad.

How, after such public debacles costing millions of dollars in lost students, donors, and prestige, could Oberlin yet again condescend to its students, betray its finest traditions, and make itself a national laughingstock? Or as another Oberlin professor put it to me in a pithy email after the Gibson’s v. Oberlin verdict, “how idiotic can the college be always?”

This may be a class conflict, and a racial conflict, and everything else, but it also seems to be a uniquely Oberlin College conflict:...

Nothing in the actions of Oberlin College or those of its dean and vice president suggests an understanding or empathy with the Gibson family’s experience.

Losing is for losers David French

David French is known by some of his opponents as “nice,” even as they point out that the battle he’s been fighting is one long retreat.  But nice is not my appellation.   He's a Christian and he never lets you forget it.  But he's a special kind of Christian.  He reminds you that Jesus commanded you to love your enemies.  And David French does.  It's his friends that he hates.

  

Christians once believed in the existence of sin and the possibility of redemption.  That was long, long ago.  The church has “grown” and sin is now just another lifestyle choice.   But not for David French who is very happy to judge your soul, examine your life and pass judgment.  And right now, his judgment is that Donald J. Trump is a bad, bad man, unfit in every way to lead America.

French – as a symbol - was the subject of a recent critical article by Sohrab Ahmari who finds French the embodiment of the “… conservative consensus that collapsed in 2016.” He calls it French-ism.   

French rose in his own defense.  He calls the depiction of himself by Ahmari as fictional and describes himself as a fighter.  He cites his courtroom victories defending religious freedom and says:

I’ve also written, spoken, and advocated for significant federal reforms designed to deter and punish university illiberalism, and while Ahmari says I have an “airy above-it-all mentality,” I didn’t feel “above” anything on that night at Tufts University when I literally placed my body between a small group of Christian students and a collection of roughly 100 protesters who were trying to intimidate them in a darkened hallway.

He rejects being naïve, having gone to the belly of the beast and experiencing being shouted down at Harvard.  He believes that radical Leftist professors are in as much danger in academia as Christians and, by gosh, he’s willing to go to court for either one.  He believes that dissident Google employees like James Damore (fired) and kneeling football players (Kaepernick and dozens of others) are equally embattled.  

I’m old enough to remember when speakers at Harvard were not shouted down.  Some were even conservative.

There was a time within my lifetime when Christian students were not mobbed at Tufts and instructors at Yale were not mobbed for defending the right to wear the Halloween costume of your choice.

It was not that many years ago that bakers could bake cakes and wedding photographers could pick and choose the jobs that reflected their values without being fined.
 
French has no problem living cheek by jowl with pagans, atheists, LGBT activists and those radical Leftist professors who are transforming impressionable kids and turning them into those mobs that roam academia.  The may hate him, his skin color, his sexual orientation and the fact that he's part of the male patriarchal oppressor class.  Live and let live and turn the other cheek.  But he draws the line at Trump who has done more to protect religious freedom than his recent predecessors.  The President preceding Trump was busy suing the Little Sisters of the Poor.   Trump signed an executive order protecting religious liberty.

During my lifetime I have seen this country evolve.  My home town had a rifle club in the high school basement and a creche in the public park at Christmas time.   Where men and women got married and had children, in that order, more often than not.  Where women did not celebrate their abortions.  Where babies were given to their mothers instead of made comfortable while doctor and mother debate whether it should be killed.  Where high school valedictorians were actually allowed to proclaim their love of Christ.  Where racial integration and color blindness was the goal to which good people strived.  Today 75 American colleges offer Black-only graduation ceremonies and 43% offer segregated residence halls.

It was a time when America was hailed as a beacon of freedom rather than condemned as the focus of evil in this world.

What French-ism means is the “nice” decision to lose the culture war, encapsulated in the 1992 speech by Patrick Buchanan.  The Right’s intellectual and political leaders set the agenda, rallied the troops, asked for our support and our dollars.  Most of them talked a good fight, but they were not the ones losing their jobs as their mines, mills, and factories closed.   It took a brash, guy with balls of steel to virtually single-handed show how it’s possible to actually win, in contrast to French and scores of people like him were losing the culture and the country they claimed to love.  But what they really loved was pretending to be in charge, bathing in self-esteem, seeing their names in print.  Today, they are simply ankle biters who have been made irrelevant by someone who fights and knows how to win.

David French is known by some of his opponents as “nice,” even as they point out that the battle he’s been fighting is one long retreat.  But nice is not my appellation.   He's a Christian and he never lets you forget it.  But he's a special kind of Christian.  He reminds you that Jesus commanded you to love your enemies.  And David French does.  It's his friends that he hates.

What is David French-ism? As Irving Kristol said of neoconservatism, French-ism is more a persuasion or a sensibility than a movement with clear tenets. …

It isn’t easy to critique the persona of someone as nice as French. Then again, it is in part that earnest and insistently polite quality of his that I find unsuitable to the depth of the present crisis facing religious conservatives. Which is why I recently quipped on Twitter that there is no “polite, David French-ian third way around the cultural civil war.” …

I added, “The only way is through”—that is to say, to fight the culture war with the aim of defeating the enemy and enjoying the spoils in the form of a public square re-ordered to the common good and ultimately the Highest Good.

French prefers a different Christian strategy, and his guileless public mien and strategic preferences bespeak a particular political theology (though he would never use that term), one with which I take issue. Thus, my complaint about his politeness wasn’t a wanton attack; it implicated deeper matters.

I’m neither a lawyer, nor do I write for a living, but I am submerged in the culture and am aware of the tide of the times. The tide is not coming in for Conservatism or Christians. In fact, Christians are the most persecuted religious group in the world. 

So for all the skirmishes David French claims to have won, Christianity - which he claims animates his philosophy - is going down.  But he doesn't think it's critical or an emergency.

He raises the specter of "Christian statism"  (what is that?) and believes that Kamala Harris will be dissuaded by Christian niceness from implementing her plans which include:

·        Supports public funding for abortion services.

·        Opposes parental notification for abortions by minors.

·        Keep federal funding for family planning clinics.

·        Supports restrictions on right to bear arms.

For reasons which I can’t fathom, French actually believes that being nice to Kamala Harris – or any of the other radicals, socialist or Marxists currently vying for the Democrat party’s nomination – will persuade them to leave us alone.  By the sheer power of his Christian witness and nice personality, he will convince President Harris that she should not proceed to make fourth-trimester abortions the law of the land.  And keep in mind that French’s stated goal is (in his own words):

It’s the formulation that renders the government primarily responsible for safeguarding liberty, and the people primarily responsible for exercising that liberty for virtuous purposes. … I firmly believe that the defense of these political and cultural values must be conducted in accordance with scriptural admonitions to love your enemies, to bless those who persecute you, with full knowledge that the “Lord’s servant” must be “kind to everyone, able to teach, and patiently endure evil.”

It's now obvious to everyone the SPLC is in trouble after firing both its founder and president.  So it's admirers are in damage control mode: admit there are a few problems and salvage the carcass.

He found his philosophical home at the archconservative John Birch Society, which is undergoing a renaissance in the Trump era.

Question, is the John Birch Society a thing now and is Trump the cause?

Even as the SPLC, based in Montgomery, Alabama, has become a heavy-hitting counterweight against rising white nationalism in the U.S., it is in the midst of its own reckoning.

Question: is white nationalism a rising tide? Is there a "rising tide" of other groups bound by, say, Marxism, Black Nationalism, Socialism, Feminism, LBGTQism, etc.ism?

And critics have blamed the SPLC’s labeling as extremists mainstream figures like author Charles Murray – who posited in the “Bell Curve” the widely debunked theory that there may be genetic differences between the races – as contributing to hostility toward free speech on college campuses.

From what perspective is Charles Murray an extremist? Is there a difference between races based on genetics and when was it debunked?

Painting Americans like Mr. Buckles and Mr. Mulch as nationalist revolutionaries underscores the lack of a hard definition of extremism, complicated by the difficulty of a majority-white nation to address a surge of white nationalism, argues Mr. Berger, author of “Jihad Joe,” in an email.

If you see white nationalists under every bed, you are a conspiracy theorist who believes that the SPLC basically does good work and needs to be rescued from a few bad apples.
