Virginian Pilot Exposes ... Nothing

I was sitting down, not bothering anyone; getting ready to eat some scrambled eggs and toast, using the Virginian Pilot as a place mat (it's highest and best use) when I saw the headline scream:

Suffolk paid nearly $250,000 to former high-level workers.

What the heck, why not pass the time and find out what those rascals in Suffolk’s city hall are up to now.

You can read the article by crack(ed) reporter Aaron Applegate for yourself.

So what nefarious things went on? Well it turns out that three Suffolk employees were entitled by contract or other agreement with the city to severance pay.

Example:

Herbert continued to draw his salary for six months after he was fired. The payments, totaling $65,000, were guaranteed under his contract with the council.

Which we find out as Applegate’s non-shocker winds to a miserable close.

City officials and the former employees declined to talk about the payments.
Severance packages for high-level employees are common practice and usually include provisions barring both sides from talking about them and from filing lawsuits related to the separation

My time did not pass by reading the article. It was murdered.
