I You Care About Australia’s Wildlife: Please Don’t Give Money To PETA.

Well, if we begin to take a look at PETA’s Australia chapter, we can imagine why they are not first in line to help those poor koalas and kangaroos we keep hearing about on the news. For example, PETA’s Australia chapter received over $49 million in contributions in 2019, but only less than 1 percent went into actually helping troubled animals. The rest of the money, in true PETA fashion, was used on advertising, public disturbances, paying off celebrity spokespersons, and lobbying politicians and businesses into getting what they want and they want one thing, and one thing only-total animal “liberations”. This would mean no zoos, no aquariums, no responsible meat, or dairy consumption, no pets, no wildlife conservation efforts that require rehabilitation or breeding programs, and no use of animals for therapeutic purposes. PETA is also against the use of guide dogs for those who are blind. If that is not enough to throw you over the edge about who PETA is, they once compared farm animals to Jewish Holocaust victims in order to convince the public to switch over to a vegan lifestyle. In addition, they also have long ties to eco-terrorists groups such as the Animal Liberation Front, Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, and the Earth Liberation Front.

If you still think PETA still cares about animals, then you might start developing some second thoughts after hearing what I am about to tell you next. As of 2018, PETA has killed around 39,961 adoptable animals while only 3,459 animals, which is less than 7.31 percent of all animals that were taken in by the Virginia-based extremist group over a period of 20 years. According to government documents, PETA employees often kill the animals within 24 hours after taking them into custody and just to make matters worse, PETA’s very own “animal shelter”, which is located on the fourth floor of it’s headquarters, only consists of three rooms that are nestled among the cubicles and conference rooms that are used to discuss new plans to profit off of animal and wildlife tragedies in the name of “animal rights”. It’s implied that the shelter is also not accessible to the public. If this is the case, then this would mean that PETA does not operate as a facility that would meet the definition of an animal shelter, especially if they have no intention to find permanent homes for animals in need.

PETA's Killers

My daughter came to see me today because the pet cat she adopted died.  She was heartbroken.  She has a soft spot in her heart for PETA, which happens to have its headquarters in our area.  I did not have the heart to remind her that PETA kills thousands of kittens and puppies a year.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is an organization that publicly claims to represent the best interest of animals -- indeed their "ethical treatment." Yet approximately 2,000 animals pass through PETA's front door every year and very few make it out alive. The vast majority -- 96 percent in 2011 -- exit the facility out the back door after they have been killed, when Pet Cremation Services of Tidewater stops by on their regular visits to pick up their remains. Between these visits, the bodies are stored in the giant walk-in freezer PETA installed for this very purpose. It is a freezer that cost $9,370 and, like the company which incinerates the bodies of PETA's victims, was paid for with the donations of animal lovers who could never have imagined that the money they donated to help animals would be used to end their lives instead. In fact, in the last 11 years, PETA has killed 29,426 dogs, cats, rabbits, and other domestic animals.

PETA not about animals or their ethical treatment. It's about collecting tens of millions of dollars from a gullible public and satisfying the perverse publicity craving of  Ingrid Newkirk. 

Despite $35,000,000 in annual revenues and millions of "animal-loving" members, PETA does not even try to find them homes. PETA has no adoption hours, does no adoption promotion, has no adoption floor, but is registered with the State of Virginia as a "humane society" or "animal shelter." ...

Routine inspections often found "no animals to be housed in the facility" or, at best "few animals in custody," despite thousands of them impounded by PETA annually. Since they take in thousands per year, where were they? "90% [of the animals] were euthanized within the first 24 hours of custody," according to the Virginia Department of Agriculture inspector. How can people adopt animals from PETA when they kill the animals they acquire within minutes without ever making them available for adoption? How can people adopt animals when they have no adoption hours, do no adoption promotion, and do not show animals for adoption, choosing to kill them without doing so? In fact, when asked by a reporter what efforts they make to find animals homes, PETA had no comment.

In practice, PETA is the functional equivalent of a slaughterhouse, while their efforts to undermine the lifesaving work of animal lovers throughout the country continually derail urgently needed reforms that would further the rights of our nation's homeless dogs and cats.

By defending regressive and cruel shelters and sheltering policies that mandate killing, by calling for the death of certain groups of animals entering shelters and by injecting thousands of animals with a fatal dose of poison every year, these actions are not only inconsistent with the mission of an animal rights organization, they are the antithesis of one. Only one question remains: Why is anyone still donating to PETA?

Of course.  PETA is a well funded scam.

PETA's Culture of Death

Out of 760 dogs impounded, they killed 713, arranged for 19 to be adopted, and farmed out 36 to other shelters (not necessarily "no kill" ones). As for cats, they impounded 1,211, euthanized 1,198, transferred eight, and found homes for a grand total of five. PETA also took in 58 other companion animals -- including rabbits. It killed 54 of them.
 

PETA's headquarters is in Norfolk, VA.  The survival rate for dogs given in care to PETA is 2.5% and for cats, it's 0.4%.  The represent the Culture of Death.
