Anthony Weiner’s Job

It is said that Anthony Weiner is fighting for his political life.

Wrong. His life as a political leader is over.

Anthony Weiner is desperately trying to hold on to his job. Up till now, he’s been rising steadily in the Democrat ranks as the vicious pit bull of political destruction. He can always be called on for an eye-bulging vein-popping foam-flecked stream of invective that he has made his trademark. He was rewarded by the Democrat leaders who wanted someone with the morals of a Weiner to tell their lies for them. He was busily smearing Clarence Thomas after smearing Glenn Beck. That was until he blew himself up.

Weiner has a pretty good job; it pays $174,000 per year. Despite being a member of Congress for 13 years at a salary that most American envy, Weiner has only managed to accumulate a net worth of less than $216,000. He needs this job because he’s not yet eligible to collect on his Congressional pension; members of Congress can retire at age 50 with 20 years of service. Of course the health benefits are excellent also, as well as the perks of office such as hiring a staff and attracting women who find political power an aphrodisiac.

What would Anthony Weiner do if he lost his job with Congress? He’s not eligible for a pension, he would need to pay for his own health insurance, and he would have to get a job. Before he was exposed to the nation as a creepy pervert, he could have easily gotten a job as a lobbyist or used his and his wife’s connection to the Clintons to get a lucrative job in the non-profit sector where the real money is.

But Weiner is radioactive right now. Would you hire someone who can aggressively lie to you like he did in his ABC interview? Not if you are sane.

So Weiner needs his current gig and he’ll fight like a cornered rat to keep it. Nothing could be more in keeping with his character.
