But it's more than that.
The peasants are revolting. The Left constantly harps on the income gap in America. What real people are noticing is the incredible gap between the Ruling Class and the regular people who seem to be regarded much as the Bourbon aristocracy regarded the French peasants. These are certain parallels: unemployment, poverty, rising food prices, and the historical disdain the rulers had for the people.
In my day the town/gown gap was modest. Today, academia is working feverishly to distance itself from the beliefs, the morals and the concerns of the people outside of the ivied halls. Note carefully those who make up the current administration. It’s often noted that there are very few people in the Obama administration who actually started or ran businesses. It’s as if the faculty of Harvard and Yale had a coup and took over the government.
The rise of the Tea Party is a reaction to this sense that the aristocracy needs to be replaced … or removed. Note that one of the most often seen posters at the rallies is a supercilious image of Obama expressing his disdain for the "bitter clingers."
The French Revolution began bloodily and ended badly. We see no desire on the part of the American people to repeat that particular mistake. But we do see a growing impatience, even anger mixed with fear, with the way the country is going and the lack real interest – as opposed to lip service – that the people who are running the country have in really helping the middle class, the class that’s being hurt the most.
The Ruling Class should begin to check into hospital and retire for medical reasons if images of the guillotine should begin to show up at Tea Party rallies.
