PowerLine and Glenn Reynolds both point out the value of mocking the incredibly mockable members of the Ruling Class. Weiner is only the last and most ridiculous member of that caste to be shown up to be a creep with sexual issues. I mean, look at him, should it not have been obvious all along?
Reynolds:
The people who think they're smart enough, and morally superior enough, to run everyone else's lives are risible. They're not smart enough to run their own lives competently, and they're actually, overall, morally inferior -- I mean, John Edwards, DSK, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Barney Frank, Tax Cheat Tim Geithner, just go down the list -- and mocking them is inherently valuable.
In the comments Mike Sigman says:
The problem with conservatives is that they haven't mocked enough... and that's why so many independents and conservatives are looking for a confrontational presidential candidate this time. The "Republican Gentleman" stuff hasn't worked so well.
Exactly, it’s the one thing that made Donald Trump (no-one’s idea of a Republican President) such a skyrocket. One slight change I would make to this comment: the problem is not with conservatives but with Republicans. The most listened to Conservative is Rush Limbaugh and he mocks the Liberals three hours a day; it's the secret to his success. While most of the erstwhile candidates were too scared to challenge Obama personally, Trump showed how incredibly liberating it is. It's what made Palin’s speech to the Republican convention so great: her mock of Obama as a “community organizer.”
