Senator Paul said on Newsmakers that he “will filibuster until we talk about the debt ceiling.”

I am a Conservative, not a Libertarian like Rand Paul, but I applaud him for promising to filibuster the Senate business until the discussions being held behind closed doors are opened to the public.

On Newsmakers, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) said he will hold up the Senate’s business next week to force a debate on the debt limit. The Senate canceled its Fourth of July break to ensure discussions on raising the debt ceiling continues, but most of the discussions are happening behind the scenes.

One of the reasons for the housing melt-down which brought on the Crash of 2008 was the back-room dealing that allowed Fannie Mae, predatory mortgage lenders and the Wall Street banks to lend trillions of dollars to people who had no hope of paying off their debts. That would not have been possible if it had not been for back-room deals that enriched a cozy coterie of well-commented Washington operators like James Johnson.

Right now Democrats and Republicans are meeting behind closed doors. While each may be making their case to their respective bases, you can be sure that the primary focus on each side will be to come to a deal that will get them re-elected. That kind of deal will probably not be the kind that solves the problems afflicting the economy, employing the unemployed, reducing the deficit (or the debt), or staving off the eventual bankruptcy of the twin pillars of the social safety net: Social Security and Medicare.

The only reason to have closed door meetings on issues as important as this is to find a face-saving solution that allows each side to claim victory. And that means the American people lose once again.

It would be really nice if our elected officials would take the situation we are in seriously.

There are a few like Rand Paul who are serious about why they came to Washington.

I am not holding my breath for the rest of the entrenched politicians to level with the American people and actually have to courage and love of country to "do the right thing".

No instead they demagogue the Ryan plan by making an ad showing a Ryan lookalike pushing a little old lady in a wheel chair over a cliff.

As long as this is the way the subject of The United States of America going broke is treated, nothing will change.

I think surely no one is dumb enough to believe such hog wash, but when I see a newsclip of Obama supporters still saying he is "for the people" I know there are still "true believers" out there who will not be influenced by the facts. Scary.
