Social media has been full of the Democrats talking about the Stormy Daniels affair with the joy and sniggers of three-year-olds who just discovered there’s a word for what you do on the potty.
This is predictable and not at all upsetting, because if these people had any political sophistication and understanding of history, they wouldn’t support a party that is more fully behind the full-on communism that has killed a hundred million human beings in the 20th century and bids fair to at least an attempt to continue its work in the twenty-first. Also, most of them have the understanding of history of Occasional Cortex and think that politics is a sort of game. All they’re really doing is signaling their membership in the “tribe.”
All well and good, but there is an aspect of this that worries me: they actually expect l’affaire Stormy to change our minds about Trump. And from their polls – snork, giggle, remember 2016? – they’re absolutely convinced they’re winning.
This worries me because it tells me just how far from reality their mental processes have gone, particularly their image of us.
Look, I don’t deny we have any number of religiously conservative people. Note, these are not just religious or conservative, but people whose only interest in politics is that their religion tells them to be conservative. And maybe those people really can be turned off voting for a president because he is sinful. (Raises eyebrow.) Except that, you know, all of those I personally know have accepted that the president —as sinful and imperfect as he is — has been the vehicle for something else.
The traditionally religious people I know believe he was sent as an instrument of G-d to save the US from complete doom and at least give us a second chance.
Are they going to be swayed by the Stormy Daniels nonsense?
Brother.
Look, he was three times married when we first voted him in. We knew he had a history of affairs. Almost the first thing I heard about him in the U.S. was news of his public and rather lurid divorce from Ivana. We’re not stupid. And at least the more sophisticated religious people understand completely that you can be spectacularly flawed and still an instrument from above. Heck, in my religion, some of the greatest saints had flaws and blind spots a mile wide and two miles deep. They still attained sainthood. Some of them (St. Joan) might also have been raving lunatics, which is not an impediment to sainthood, and in fact, might help (it helps distance you from the world).
But the problem is that the Left believes a lot of things about us that spectacularly aren’t so. They believe we’re all religiously conservative. They believe we all live in small southern towns and dropped out without a high school diploma. They believe we are all violently anti-gay, believe men should command women, are all white supremacists, etc., etc., etc.
It’s always hilarious when one of them comes to my blog to accuse me of being a southern redneck who is afraid of people who aren’t like me.
This illusion of the Left is necessitated by the fact they have elevated Marxist credo to a messianic religion. They believe it as one believes revealed truth, with no doubt and no thought. (If they thought, they wouldn’t believe it.) And in believing it, they think that, of course, anyone who opposes them must be evil. The only way not to think we’re evil is to think we’re otherwise impaired — you know, in Mr. Obama’s charming words, “clinging to their guns and religion and afraid of people who aren’t like them.”
So they’re using the strategy they think will turn the right away from Trump.
Why is this worrisome? Well, other than the fact that they might be using this and subsequent polls as a cover-up for the immense fraud they’ll bring onboard in 2020 (guys, they did massive fraud last year. Massive. Look into Arizona sometime. And honestly, any state that is vote-by-mail only is going left and staying left, because it’s wide open to fraud, and the Democrats bring the fraud. Boy, do they bring it.)
That does worry me.
Still, the fact they think this is going to work to turn the right against Trump worries me more.
They don’t realize how much they’re scaring most of this country. They don’t understand how much we fear and loathe the faces they’ve revealed for decades, and particularly since Hillary lost: the praise of socialism, their reluctance to condemn even Venezuela, their crazy desire for not having borders and being open to invasion, their general hatred of America and hatred of all Americans.
Even if the media soft-pedaled it, most of us understood perfectly that Mr. Obama loathed America to the point of hating our flag.
And most of us saw in his presidency the perfect example of what happens when you elect a president who hates the country he leads.
We knew that to elect Hillary was to put in power the rest of the program of our destruction and we didn’t want that.
For the right, the 2016 election was the Flight 93 election. And if you haven’t read that excellent essay, do go to the site and read it, but this excerpt should suffice to give you the gist of it:
2016 is the Flight 93 election: charge the cockpit or you die. You may die anyway. You—or the leader of your party—may make it into the cockpit and not know how to fly or land the plane. There are no guarantees.
Except one: if you don’t try, death is certain. To compound the metaphor: a Hillary Clinton presidency is Russian Roulette with a semi-auto. With Trump, at least you can spin the cylinder and take your chances.
Most of us didn’t vote for Trump because we wanted Trump the man in charge. We voted for him for the things he was saying: allowing our economy to function again and giving us functioning borders again, mostly.
For decades, regardless of the party nominally in power, our polity had been in the hands of those who at best thought America was uncouth and needed reform, and at worst hated us and wanted to bring us low among the nations of the world. Open borders, ever-multiplying regulations that stopped our economy cold and sent jobs overseas, destructive welfare policies that actively made it punitive to stay together as a family. It goes on.
And in 2016, when they thought us softened enough, they brought out the full panoply of "socialist this" and "Marxist that." Hillary’s running mate, for instance. And since then? The mask has come off yet further.
So we can either allow them to destroy this country, the last great place on Earth, or we can vote for whosoever opposes them. Even if the person is not what we wish.
For anyone in that frame of mind – and I think we have a majority of the country at this point – it doesn’t matter if Trump slept with a sex professional or if she blackmailed him under threat of talking about sleeping with him (remember, whores lie).
Heck, if he were found with a live boy and a dead girl at the same time, most of us would go, “not before breakfast” and keep on trucking on.
Because we’re desperate. Because a president who loves America is better than the one who hates it, and because the socialist/communist madness is so strong in the Democrat Party that anyone who opposes them is better than anyone they run. (Remember, the USSR called itself socialist. The difference is one of degree and the sort of fiddly proprietorship on paper stuff only they care about, just like only penguins care about penguin sex differences.)
Because the next Democrat president might be the last president of a free America, and then we will have to shoot our way out of socialism.
Which is why we don’t care about Stormy Daniels. We’re not even upset about this whole thing. We’re just baffled and wondering what is wrong with the heads of the Left.
Meanwhile, the Left thinks they’re turning us against Trump – let’s hope so. They’ll then underestimate how many votes to manufacture – or they'll use this to make their fraud more plausible.
It is the second one that worries me.
There is a line in Romeo and Juliet when Romeo has sought poison to kill himself, and he’s heading for Juliet’s tomb, and the authorities try to stop him. With his back to the wall, nothing to lose, and seeking to kill himself, he says, “Tempt not a desperate man.”
The Left doesn’t get the desperation, or the degree of desperation most of us feel. Being as innocent of economics and history as a duck is of astronomy, they don’t get the grave peril the whole country stood in and still stands in. They don’t understand that the world is not one of unicorns and rainbows.
Their pig ignorance of the world and their smug and stupid imagined superiority over the rest of us don’t allow them to know what they’re doing.
And what they’re doing is tap dancing on a powder keg and calling for more candles to properly illuminate the series.

We Are Dancing on a Powder Keg
Democrats are delusional if they think Stormy Daniels is an issue for us. A GREAT essay by Sarah Hoyt.
