Palin Movie Set to Premiere: "The Undefeated."

When it premieres in Iowa next month, the film is poised to serve as a galvanizing prelude to Palin's prospective presidential campaign -- an unconventional reintroduction to the nation that she and her political team have spent months eagerly anticipating, even as Beltway Republicans have largely concluded that she won't run.
Sarah Palin has always been unconventional. A classic outside-the-box thinker who eschews conventional wisdom. Someone who has made a career out of bucking the establishment, Democrat and Republican.

"The Undefeated" conveys the dramatic extent to which Palin's world has changed in just a few years, as it shows her announcing her gubernatorial campaign not at a massive rally but at a sparsely attended press conference in her kitchen. ...

If she does decide to run, "The Undefeated" will be the key element to her initial coming-out party. The film's impending release -- and the frenzied media attention that it is sure to generate -- will serve as a vivid wake-up call that despite the many obstacles in front of her, Palin's entry into the race would turn the campaign on its head in an instant, just as it did in 2008.

As she mulls her decision in the coming weeks, the other Republican candidates in the field will be left to prepare for a hibernating grizzly who appears poised to rise up once again.
So far all the media concern about the weakness of the Republican field and the fact that the only real fighter who made a brief foray into the campaign was Donald Trump (who was actually not a Republican) has many Republicans searching for a real leader. If Palin decides to run, she will become the Republican standard bearer. The nomination is hers for the asking. She can then name Romney as her VP and assign him the task of raising the money.

And the Winner Is: "Not Barack Obama"

Michael Gerson wrote a piece on the characteristics of a winning Republican candidate for president. He made the case for Tim Pawlenty as the candidate the can win both the Republican nomination and the general election.

From what I’ve seen of Pawlenti so far, I could support him. And that’s the point. At this point even a faux Republican like Donald Trump could get my support.

Because the next president of the United States will be … not Barack Obama.

Let me restate that for people who don’t get it, the next election will be decided by people who will see two names on the ballot and vote for the one who is not Barack Obama.

Let me put it a third way, the next election will be between the Media/Obama complex and the winner.

Gerson wrote:
“… a Republican nominee will require a more hopeful message than just budget cuts.”

No Mike, the Republican nominee will be required to be not Barack Obama.

Gerson:

“A winning candidate will need to talk not only about austerity but about opportunity.”

No Mike, the Republican nominee will be required to say he’s not Barack Obama.

Gerson:
“Which Republican has the best chance of crafting a general-election message of economic mobility?"

No Mike, the Republican nominee will be required point out in great detail that he’s not Barack Obama.

Gerson:
"Pawlenty is both less vivid and more conservative than Huckabee."

No Mike, the Republican nominee will less vivid and more conservative than Barack Obama.

Gerson:
“Pawlenty also governed as a reformer with populist instincts”

No Mike, populism, swopulism, the next Republican nominee will simply point out that he’s not Barack Obama.

How can I say this more clearly: the last election was a referendum on George Bush and until the financial crisis erupted and John "[Obama’s] a person that you don't have to be scared of as President of the United States” McCain panicked, even that election was going against Obama who was promising rainbows and unicorns in every pot.  That was before the country knew Obama; the president who was elected to make Jimmy Carter look good by comparison.

The country has experienced Barack Obama and - except for the media - wants out. Obama has his core who will vote for him no matter what (but the press is dying so that demographic is shrinking). The rest of the country will vote for the other person on the ballot: the one who’s not Barack Obama.

Obama: "Israel, You're On Your Own."

I always wonder why people are so credulous.  If someone lies to you time after time, why should you be reassured when he tells you what you want to hear?  But American Jews want to think that Obama cares for them.  After all they have been loyal Democrats even longer than blacks.  They have given him huge sums of money.  They approve of his domestic politics.  The speech to AIPAC was what they wanted to hear, even if it contradicts pretty much everything he has said and done about Israel.

The people who live in reality, look at what he does.  They look at who he hangs around with.  They look at who he appoints.  If he says something that is not in line with his actions, his friends or his appointees, you can be fairly sure that he's lying.

The Obama who gave the speech last Thursday about Israel's 1967 borders was the Obama that's in line with his actions and his friends.  The speech he gave to AIPAC was not.

Except ... except ...  remember that Obama can't help himself when he has the ability to give somebody the finger while telling us he's only scratching his nose.

So on RealClearPolitics I saw this little gem.
"As for security, every state has the right to self-defense, and Israel must be able to defend itself – by itself – against any threat."
Read that again: "Israel must be able to defend itself – by itself"

That can be read either as a ringing endorsement of a militarily strong Israel, able to fight off all the Arab armies arrayed against it all by itself, or it could be the kiss-off.  It's either the middle finger or Obama scratching his nose.

My interpretation: don't expect any help from the Obama administration if several hundred million Arabs decide to invade. Obama is a big fan of the Europeans who regard Israel as a "shitty little country."  For Obama, the end of Israel would eliminate lots of problems.

Deconstructing Chomsky

Chomsky's fame is predicated on his work in linguistics.  There, his prose in impenetrable.  So supposed his work in linguistics is as flawed as his political views?  David Solvay does a devastating analysis of this academic work.

Put succinctly, Chomskyan psycholinguistics is not a science, but an elaborate Rube Goldberg machine that mobilizes enormous resources to get very little done. Nevertheless, many of us are seduced by an intricately latticed diction and dazzled into submission by indomitable complexity.
Supposed Chomsky is simply an academic fraud - akin to man-made global warming.   That would explain ...
... the mind that is at work postulating a theory of generative grammar is the same mind that is busy expounding an ideological program of anti-capitalist, anti-American, and anti-Israeli doctrine, that excuses the Soviet Union for invading Afghanistan and is sympathetic to totalitarian North Korea, that supports Latin American and Islamic autocrats, that can defend a mass murderer like Pol Pot, a Holocaust denier like Robert Faurisson, and a terrorist like Hassan Nasrallah, and that can argue that George Bush’s “crimes vastly exceed bin Laden’s.” And it can do so because it is not bound by the rules of testability.
The next time anyone tells you that Chomsky is a brilliant academic, ask him to explain his work. 999 out of 1000 won't understand anything of what he wrote. They are all under the spell of the fallacy "appeal to authority."

"The gilded princelings of statism"

Mark Steyn on the  powerful, wealthy members of the ruling class, as only he can

Read  The unzippered princeling and the serving wench where he serves up not only Strauss-Kahn but also
  • Timmy "unable to follow the simple yes/no prompts of Turbo Tax" Geithner,
  • Ted "She died so that the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act might live" Kennedy and
  • Charlie "I don't deal in average American citizens" Rangel
A classic.

Obamacare waiver corruption must stop

Thanks to ObamaCare we are becoming a nation of men, not of laws.
Selective enforcement of the law is the first sign of tyranny. A government empowered to determine arbitrarily who may operate outside the rule of law invariably embraces favoritism as friends, allies and those with the best-funded lobbyists are rewarded. Favoritism inevitably leads to corruption, and corruption invites extortion. Ultimately, the rule of law ceases to exist in any recognizable form, and what is left is tyranny....

Americans deserve and, in fact, are guaranteed by our Constitution a level playing field. We were never promised equality in results, but we do deserve to play by the same rules and to be judged by the same standards. When a new law like Obamacare is so deeply flawed that its supporters openly violate these American bedrock principles to sustain it, it’s time to repeal that law.

I will repeat the same question I’ve been asking since the first health care waiver was granted: If Obamacare is such a great law, why does the White House keep exempting its best friends from it?

Reason TV: LA Rally - Don't Believe What Teachers Tell You

What’s really frightening is that these people are “teaching” the next generation.  Note the homage that the old harridan is paying to crazed killers like Che.

Nada Problema: Thanks Mr. President for keeping the Mexican border sealed tight.

Barney Frank blasted for debt ceiling panic

“This is Barney Frank’s M.O. — burn the house down, then take his hand off of the gas can and say, ‘It’s (the GOP’s) fault,’ ”
Let's see: who chaired the House Financial Services Committee up to and including the financial melt-down in 2008?  Oh yeah,  Barfney "My Boy Lollipop" Frank.

Chickens roosting

There’s a benefit to being a so far left that you fall over while being denounced by Cornel West AND Peter Fondue.  Jeff Goldstein explains.

The War Powers Resolution was Meant to Apply Only to Republican Presidents.

The law, passed in 1973, requires that the president withdraw U.S. forces from hostilities after 60 days unless he secures Congress's approval or a formal declaration of war.

In the depths of the Vietnam War and Watergate era, a Democratic Congress enacted the War Powers Resolution over Richard Nixon's veto.

Obama says that the law doesn't apply to "limited wars kinetic actions." The president thanked the congressional leaders for not cutting him off at the knees for the support that they have “demonstrated for this mission and for our brave service members, as well as your strong condemnation of the Qaddafi regime.”

Well, I'm glad that's settled. Obama can't fight World War 3 for more than 60 days without congressional approval.

Israel's Netanyahu rejects Obama proposal on borders

Israel decided that suicide was not an option, no matter how much Obama would like it.

Netanyahu told Obama his endorsement of a long-standing Palestinian demand to go back to Israel's 1967 boundaries -- meaning big concessions of occupied land -- would leave Israel "indefensible."

"Peace based on illusions will crash eventually on the rocks of Middle East reality,"

DRUDGE Headline:" I ME MINE: Obama praises CIA for bin Laden raid, while saying 'I' 37 times..."

Yahoo

"You're often the first ones to get the blame when things go wrong and you're always the last ones to get the credit when things go right," Obama said.

I thought that was George Bush.

"Obama still believes in you! "

From Pundit & Pundette:

The vision that brought us together in 2008, that's undiminished in me. The confidence I have in the American people, in their decency, that's undiminished. My faith that we can make tough choices on behalf of future generations, that's undiminished. My belief in you has not lessened.
Sure, we're small, insignificant, and not always 100% faithful to the One. But he still believes in us.

What's the difference between God and Obama?

God doesn't believe he's Obama.

"Other than that, the article was correct"

Steyn:
Even if (unlike yours truly) you’ve no interest in the subject of the cable, it’s a fascinating glimpse of the level of expertise you get from America’s lavishly remunerated foreign service. Almost every single fact in that paragraph is wrong: Richard Warman has never filed complaints against me or Maclean’s. He has never filed complaints before the Ontario “Human Rights” Commission or the British Columbia “Human Rights” Tribunal. The Maclean’s article was accused not of anti-Semitic and anti-gay hate speech but of “Islamophobia.’ The British Columbia case was not dismissed: It went to trial, and the troika of judges eventually found us not guilty. Etc.
Read the whole thing.

AARP latest to receive Obamacare break

It's always helpful to your bottom line when the government outlaws your competition.
Now, though, it’s clear that the AARP is set to make millions, if not billions, of extra dollars in Medigap plan sales moving forward because they’ve effectively knocked out their biggest competitor, Medicare Advantage, through Obamacare.

New Details Emerge of Radical Imam's Lunch at the Pentagon

It appears that Anwar al-Awlaki, now on the "kill list" for inspiring Jihadis to attack Americans, was an honored guest at the Pentagon; invited by the Defense Department’s Office of the General Counsel.
"I have reserved one of the executive dining rooms for February 5th, which is the date he (Awlaki) preferred," a defense department lawyer wrote in the e-mail announcing the event.

"He (Awlaki) will be leaving for an extensive period of time on February 11th."

The e-mail states that New Mexico born al-Awlaki was the featured guest speaker on “Islam and Middle Eastern Politics and Culture."

The Defense Department lawyer who vetted the imam wrote that she "had the privilege of hearing one of Mr. Awlaki's presentations in November and was impressed by both the extent of his knowledge and by how he communicated that information and handled a hostile element in the audience."

Awlaki was taken to the Pentagon as part of the military's outreach to the moderate Muslim community in the immediate aftermath of the attacks. His ties to the 9/11 attackers was known to the FBI and he was also the inspiration for the Ft. Hood jihadi/killer.

Obama's Mid-East Plan: "What's Plan B?" (An incitement to Armageddon)

Richard Fernandez:
Having declared himself on the side of the demonstrators and no longer the defender of the status quo, many of the participants in the Arab Street will ask Obama to make his bones. And the only way President Obama can prove that he’s on their side is to throw one or two dictators their way. The Bush plan would be to throw Khamenei and Assad to the crowds first. But that appears to be off the table, because he wants to talk to them, so in the Obama variation the alternative appears to be giving only America’s allies in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and the only democracy in the Middle East, Israel, the heave-ho. When it is too hard to ditch your enemies, ditch those who trusted you....

I think the president believes he can achieve a nuanced outcome by taking both sides of history in the Middle East; to preserve U.S. security interests while spreading democracy — all largely achieved by the State Department. Maybe he will succeed. But the worst case scenario is that this will lead to a complete unraveling of the U.S. position in the region coupled with an unwillingness and inability to defend any red line whatsoever. Consider: if Plan A fails, what on earth is Plan B?

Israel is not going to go quietly into that good night.

The problem that Obama has is that he has no control over the cycle of violence or political upheaval in the Middle East. All he can contribute is incitement. He can incite the current rulers to greater acts of repression, knowing that being deposed does not mean retirement but death. He can incite greater mass demonstrations knowing that American support of the old regimes is ended. He can incite Israel to abandon its belief that America will rush supplies to its military during a war; making the use of nuclear weapons more likely. And he has incited Iran to finish development of its nuclear capability to checkmate Israel’s use of nuclear weapons in the next war.

All that in one single campaign speech. Quite an accomplishment, Barry.

Hedge Farm! The Doomsday Food Price Scenario Turning Hedgies into Survivalists

When the "smart money" begins to buy farm land, you know that something's up.  Here's the key:
This is happening in part because investors see their play as a hedge against hyperinflation. While the rest of the world uses the current calculation of the Consumer Price Index as a proxy for the cost of goods, some farmland investors are using a different equation, one from 1980. These investors assert inflation should be calculated the way it was before the Boskin Commission's 1996 reworking of the CPI formula-in which case, it would be much, much higher.

"The CPI supposedly today is something like 1.5 percent," says the hedge fund manager. "We think the actual rate of inflation is something closer to 6 or 7 percent on an annual basis. It's also not about what it's been over the last 10 years; it's about what it's going to be over the next 10 years."

Yuppies are seeing some of the biggest and fastest price hikes:
The rising cost of food can be seen even in New York's yuppiest enclaves, where prices are high to begin with. Bloomberg food critic Ryan Sutton has been running a blog called The Price Hike wherein he measures the shifting costs of food at the plate in Manhattan restaurants. Mario Batali's Del Posto is charging 21 percent more per meal since October. Gordon Ramsay at The London? Sixty-nine percent more since last month. Michelin favorite Bouley? Forty percent. The Breslin, at the Ace Hotel? Thirty-three percent. And so on.

The diners at exclusive Manhattan eateries are putting their meals on American Express. In other parts of the world, the reaction is a little more extreme.
