Spanish King Tells Chavez to "Shut Up"

Hugo Chavez has had American and European fellow travelers fawn all over him. People like movie star Danny Glover, Harry Belafonte has also been here. So has the antiwar activist Cindy Sheehan, the prominent African-American writer Cornel West.

Model Naomi Campbell and actors Kevin Spacey and Sean Penn have also travelled to Venezuela to embrace Chavez and stand in solidarity with a dictatorial thug. Perhaps they were interested in getting some of the oil money that Chavez had showered on Danny Glover. But I really don’t think their objectives were as mercenary as that. There seems to be a love affair between wealthy “artists” and Leftist dictators. Now that Fidel Castro is in his dotage, Hugo Chavez has become the new go-to guy for the Left.

So it was gratifying to read that the Spanish King Juan Carlos, told Hugo to "shut up."

It goes without saying that this bit of news will not appear in the Virginian Pilot, whose editors would like to plant a big fat kiss anywhere on Chavez' body.

UPDATE: Mark Steyn notes:
Hugo Chavez may have Sean Penn and Naomi Campbell cooing on his every word, but the King of Spain has a lower tolerance for "Chavismo":

Mr Chavez repeatedly tried to interrupt, despite his microphone being turned off. The king leaned forward and said: "Why don't you shut up?"

According to reports, the king used a familiar term normally used only for close acquaintances - or children
.

UPDATE: Chavez is turning Venezuela into a haven for international crime
Venezuela has become a major hub for international crime syndicates. What attracts them is not the local market; what they really love are the excellent conditions Venezuela offers to anyone in charge of managing a global criminal network.
