The “Lipstick on a Pig” and “stinky fish” controversy has Obama’s supporters vehemently denying that he did not call Sarah Palin a pig. We were “misinterpreting” his comments, hypersensitive, they were comments in common use, McCain has used the expression, drop it, etc.
There are two problems with this explanation.
First, his audience obviously understood his reference. They hooted and hollered before he delivered the punch line.
Second, this kind of sly way of dissing his opponents is nothing new. He used similar signals to show his contempt of Hillary Clinton by slyly “giving her the finger” while pretending to be scratching his face, much to his audience’s delight.
Try scratching your face using your middle finger ...
Go ahead try it ...
Go ahead, scratch your face, try using your middle finger. Does it feel natural?
To me this is an indication of someone who is emotionally immature. Someone who is petty and repellent. Not, mind you, that giving someone the finger is always undeserved. But for God’s sake, be a man about it, don’t sneak it in and then deny you did it. That is what’s petty and small and mean.
