The same is true, of course, in the US where organizations like NASA and NOAA have also been caught red-handed making adjustments to their own temperature data sets, none of these convincingly explained.

But this scandal is not as widely known as it should be, largely because it goes virtually unreported in the liberal-dominated mainstream media. This partly explains the huge discrepancy between the way liberals think about climate change and the way conservatives do. According to this survey, liberals in both the U.S and the UK are dramatically more worried about climate change than conservatives.

Perhaps this is because conservatives are simply better informed.

“Security” is the new “shut up”.

The problem is that for Ayaan Hirsi Ali’s bravery to be effective depends on the tour promoters’ bravery. And the tour promoters’ bravery depends on whichever hotel group she’s booked with to be brave. And the hotel group’s bravery depends on whichever corporate entity owns the event venues to be brave. And the corporate entity’s bravery depends on the insurers’ bravery. And the insurers’ bravery depends on someone ponying up an extra gazillion dollars for security costs. And suddenly for the cost of a bare-bones speech by one brave woman you could mount The Phantom Of The Opera meets Avatar on ice and still come out ahead. (…)

And in another ten years? Douglas, Ayaan and I will still enjoy theoretical freedom of speech but, to exercise it, we’ll have to meet in an abandoned mine-shaft an hour south of Cloncurry, speaking to seven personally invited guests driven there blindfolded. The marketplace of ideas, from Canberra to Copenhagen, is shrinking fast. To quote Laura Rosen Cohen yet again: “Security” is the new “shut up”.

Australia PM advisor says climate change a UN-led ruse

Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott's top business advisor on Friday claimed climate change was a ruse encouraged by the United Nations to create a new authoritarian world order under its control.

Maurice Newman, chairman of the Prime Minister's Business Advisory Council, said the real agenda was "concentrated political authority. Global warming is the hook".

In a column for The Australian newspaper to coincide with a visit by UN climate chief Christiana Figueres, he added that the world had been "subjected to extravagance from climate catastrophists for close to 50 years". ...

"Figueres is on record saying democracy is a poor political system for fighting global warming. Communist China, she says, is the best model," he wrote...

Newman said "hopefully, like India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Tony Abbott isn't listening (to the UN)".

But he warned that "having gained so much ground, eco-catastrophists won't let up".

"After all, they have captured the UN and are extremely well-funded. They have a hugely powerful ally in the White House," he said.

"They will continue to present the climate change movement as an independent, spontaneous consensus of concerned scientists, politicians and citizens who believe human activity is 'extremely likely' to be the dominant cause of global warming.

"And they will keep mobilising public opinion using fear and appeals to morality."

#illridewithyou Was Even More Fraudulent Than I Thought

When an Islamic terrorist took hostages in a Sydney, Australia cafe this week, the first thing our moral, ethical, and intellectual betters did — before the siege was even over, before two of the hostages were killed — was change the subject.

The real victims weren’t the hostages. The real victims were Muslims who were too scared to use public transportation because of the imminent anti-Muslim violence that never happened. To combat this nonexistent threat, some genius proposed the Twitter hashtag #illridewithyou, which was supposed to somehow show solidarity with the “victims.” And of course, it went viral among journalists and other people who don’t care about the truth.

As it turns out, #illridewithyou was an even emptier gesture than I first thought. The incident that so inspired all those smug leftists worldwide didn’t actually happen. John Hayward explains:

What never occurs to the Special Snowflake Brigade is that their crusades amount to vicious slander against the people they collective accuse of harboring the darkest thoughts, and hovering moments away from taking the most terrible actions. While a real terrorist was subjecting his captives to hours of sheer terror that ended with gunfire and bloodshed, Jacobs was inventing an imaginary incident of cultural oppression to denounce her entire society for something it didn’t actually do.

In fact, she was doing exactly what she falsely accused Australians of doing to Muslims. She’s every bit as prejudiced as the imaginary bigots the #illridewithyou crowd took an ostentatious stand against; her bigotry simply has different, more politically correct targets. She wraps up her Brisbane Times column by trying to exile her imaginary hobgoblins from Australia, in precisely the same terms that would doubtless drive her incandescent with rage if they were directed at the groups she favors ...
It’s interesting to note that even the original version of Rachel Jacobs’ story was pretty thin, and relied heavily on her final encounter with the alleged “oppressed Muslim woman” for what little veracity it had; that parting scene confirmed that the woman had removed her headscarf as a concession to bigotry, and was grateful for Jacobs’ support to reclaim her dignity. That’s the part that occurred entirely as a delusional breeze wafting between the windmills of Jacobs’ mind. The #illridewithyou hoax only worked because so many people were eager to receive such confirmation of their prejudices, such validation of their feelings of superiority over the miserable cavemen who make up the quietly seething racist bulk of their societies. As America has been learning to its cost over the past six years, it is a very bad idea to put people who feel that way in charge of your government.
Now, are the global media outlets who pushed the #illridewithyou hoax so energetically going to pay equal attention to the author’s admission that she made the whole thing up out of whole cloth?

Conservative leader Abbott sweeps into power in Australian elections

SYDNEY/CANBERRA (Reuters) - Australia's conservative leader Tony Abbott swept into office in national elections on Saturday as voters punished the outgoing Labor government for six years of turbulent rule and for failing to maximize the benefits of a now fading mining boom.

Abbott, a former boxer, Rhodes scholar and trainee priest, promised to restore political stability, cut taxes and crack down on asylum seekers arriving by boat.

"From today I declare that Australia is under new management and Australia is once more open for business," Abbott told jubilant supporters in Sydney.

It took a while for Australians to catch on.  If the Democrats win in 2016, Australia is looking a lot better as a destination.
