Is Axlerod all Obama's got?

Good question. Is Obama so short of allies that he’s reduced to having the Mr. Peachum of his administration front for him public? ...

It ended badly, as somebody at the White House should have known it would. But it’s a sign of desperation: Axelrod is a charter member of Obama’s Chicago mafia, the man behind the curtain, and to send him out where he could be humiliated was a dreadful blunder. What, Bill Clinton wasn’t available? Oh, wait . . .
Obama surrogates are abandoning him right, left and center. Corey Booker, Steve Rattner, Bill Clinton, Harold Ford Jr., Ed Rendell, even Duvall Patrick all distanced themselves from the main attack that Team Obama is using to defeat Romney: Bain Capital.

When he can’t get his own side to support him, is Axelrod all Obama has left?

Did he think this through before his 20-something brain trust decided that this was the hill they were going to attack?

Glenn Reynolds comments: I’LL BET HE DOES: In tough fight with Romney, Obama longs for McCain.
