National Geographic: Mars Is Warming

Dennis Gartman is a famous financial expert, a very successful trader and investor, and someone with extensive contacts all over the world. He has expressed antipathy toward those who he refers to as the Eco-Left.

While not doubting that the world is getting warmer he is convinced that this is part of a natural cycle that is dictated not by an evil mankind, but my much more powerful forces, primarily the sun.

After years of having the stage to themselves, the Eco-Left if finally finding the stage crowded. For the first time in our memory, those who take exception to man-made global warming are being heard...and listened to.

The February [2007] issue of National Geographic reports that:

Simultaneous warming on Earth and Mars suggests that our planet's recent climate changes have a natural—and not a human-induced—cause, according to one scientist's controversial theory.

Earth is currently experiencing rapid warming, which the vast majority of climate scientists says is due to humans pumping huge amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. [This is a bit of National Geographic editorializing. As recent evidence has shown, and more climate scientists come forward, the "vast majority" is shrinking faster than the polar icecaps.]

Mars, too, appears to be enjoying more mild and balmy temperatures.

In 2005 data from NASA's Mars Global Surveyor and Odyssey missions revealed that the carbon dioxide "ice caps" near Mars's south pole had been diminishing for three summers in a row.

Habibullo Abdussamatov, head of space research at St. Petersburg's Pulkovo Astronomical Observatory in Russia, says the Mars data is evidence that the current global warming on Earth is being caused by changes in the sun.

"The long-term increase in solar irradiance is heating both Earth and Mars," he said.

Unless the Mars probes that NASA has sent to Mars have caused warming on that planet, it is the sun's natural change in heat output, the heating and cooling, that are the reasons for both earthly and Martian temperature changes.

Greenhouse gases are on the rise on Mars, and have been apparently for centuries, as the sun's cycle of sunspot activity is on the rise. As the atmosphere heats, the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere, and in the oceans and in the water, rises, for warmer atmospheres and water are able to hold greater volumes of CO2. That is a scientific fact, and those greater volumes lag behind the heat increases that create the circumstance.

This risk is that the Eco-Left will panic the world's legislatures into implementing anti-global warming policies that will not only have no effect on global warming, but will doom millions of poor people throughout the world to miserable death. And lest I be accused of exaggerating, let me remind all that the DDT ban, which most people still reflexively support, saved countless numbers of eagles but also allowed for the recurrence of malaria resulting in hundreds of thousands of human deaths in the Third World. We banned DDT, saved the eagles and killed numberless human beings in the process. I would rather not go that route again.

UPDATE: Welcome Freepers. Feel free to look around.
