James Webb "Born Jerk"

Jim Webb (D-Media) had a slogan during his campaign for Senate: “Born Fighting.” It now appears that an equally valid descriptor is “Born Jerk.”

He seems to have surprised everybody. He surprised his supporters, led by the Washington Post, the Virginian Pilot and most of the press barons of Virginia, by demonstrating that he is not house trained.

I predicted that Jim Webb would surprise his friends. I little realized what a surprise he would be.

UPDATE:

A fan of James Webb insists that Jim is a "very private" person and doesn't want to talk about his son. It's a good story but it's a lie. Unfortunately, Webb is anything but reluctant to talk about his marine son. His offical web site has this picture of Webb holding up his son's boots.

And in case you wonder where I got the info that those boots Webb is holding are his son's, click HERE. He wore those boots on the campaign trail, using his son as a campaign prop.

James Webb is a classless jerk and his supporters are dupes.

Countercolumn has it right:

By the way, I'm sure the words "Webb" and "Decorated former Marine officer" will go together quite a bit in the media in the months to come. A lot more often than, say, "Webb" and "Ineffective former Secretary of the Navy."

Funny. Bob Dole was very highly decorated. But the press sure didn't refer to him as a "highly decorated WWII veteran" very much during the 96 campaign coverage.

Trust me, Jim Webb did not surprise and did not disappoint. He did exactly what I and tens of thousands of his other supporters would have expected. He stood up for himself in the face of a rude demand by Bush that he discuss his son. Bush approached Webb, they shook hands, Webb introduced Bush to his wife, and then Bush asked his famous question "how's your boy?" The notoriously private Webb deflected the question with his reply "I'd like them out of Iraq, Mr. President," to which Bush petulantly replied "That's not what I asked you. How's your boy?" What right did Bush have to demand that Webb answer a personal question? Webb doesn't even talk about his son to journalists or supporters. Why should he have to discuss him with his political enemy, a bare acquaintance? Bush was completely out of line.

And if the dozens of blogs and hundreds of comments I have read on this issue are any indication, the vast majority of people believe what Webb did was perfectly fine. There were over 2000 comments posted against George Will's character assassination column, the one which omitted major details like "that's not what I asked" and Webb's use of the honorific. Over 90% of those comments were for Webb.

The "notoriously private" Webb did not hesitate to use his son during his campaign. He was wearing his son's boots and waving them around. "Notoriously Private?" No. A notorious jerk.

Before you spout off, get your facts straight.
