Doomsday's Past and I Feel Fine

The rapture was supposed to happen on September 13, 1988.

A few fringe pastors were screaming that the end was nigh, that the righteous would soon disappear into the air while the rest of humanity was doomed to suffer a quite literal hell on earth. Forget the biblical admonition that no man knows the day nor hour of Christ’s return, these men had figured it out. It was time to prepare yourself. I was a sophomore at a Christian college in Nashville, and it was the talk of the campus. No one likes to make fun of crazy Christian preachers more than irreverent Christian college students, and we couldn’t stop dividing the student body between the saved and the damned.

When the alarm clock rang the morning after the scheduled rapture, I hit snooze, and said, triumphantly, to my roommate, “We’re still here!” There was no response. “Hello?” Still no response. I looked down at his bed, and no one was there. For about nine seconds I was gripped by sheer panic. I’d been left behind. The lake of fire awaits! Then my roommate walked in from the shower, and the crisis passed.

I thought of this story as I watched Rush Limbaugh’s Al Gore “armageddon” clock expire. In January, 2006 — when promoting his Oscar-winning (yes, Oscar-winning) documentary, An Inconvenient Truth — Gore declared that unless we took “drastic measures” to reduce greenhouse gasses, the world would reach a “point of no return” in a mere ten years. He called it a “true planetary emergency.”

Well, the ten years passed today, we’re still here, and the climate activists have postponed the apocalypse. Again.

There’s a veritable online cottage industry cataloguing hysterical, failed predictions of environmentalist catastrophe. Gore’s prediction fits right in with the rest of his comrades in the wild-eyed environmentalist movement.

Over at the American Enterprise Institute, Mark Perry keeps his list of “18 spectacularly wrong apocalyptic predictions” made around the original Earth Day in 1970. Robert Tracinski at The Federalist has a nice list of “Seven big failed environmentalist predictions.” The Daily Caller’s “25 years of predicting the global warming ‘tipping point’” makes for amusing reading, including one declaration that we had mere “hours to act” to “avert a slow-motion tsunami.”

... climate activists all too often are the close cousins of politically correct campus race hucksters — they cloak their raw will to power in the self-righteous cloak of the great and glorious cause. We’ve taken them seriously for far too long. Now, it’s time to laugh.

Can we laugh now?  Read the whole thing.

Global warming ... errr ... climate change explained.

Al Gore has clarified that the issue isn't just about global warming, but about climate change. Human activity is responsible for warming, cooling, or staying the same, and we must DO something -mostly funnel money into Al's investments - before it becomes unbearably warmer, or cooler or overly the same.

The Science is Settled

Peer-Reviewed Survey Finds Majority Of Scientists Skeptical Of Global Warming Crisis

Don’t look now, but maybe a scientific consensus exists concerning global warming after all. Only 36 percent of geoscientists and engineers believe that humans are creating a global warming crisis, according to a survey reported in the peer-reviewed Organization Studies. By contrast, a strong majority of the 1,077 respondents believe that nature is the primary cause of recent global warming and/or that future global warming will not be a very serious problem. ...

People who look behind the self-serving statements by global warming alarmists about an alleged “consensus” have always known that no such alarmist consensus exists among scientists. Now that we have access to hard surveys of scientists themselves, it is becoming clear that not only do many scientists dispute the asserted global warming crisis, but these skeptical scientists may indeed form a scientific consensus.

Well, that's that. The science is settled and you don't want to be anti-science, do you? That foolish religion founded by charlatans such as Al Gore belong with the frauds like L. Ron Hubbard. It seems that Gore, like Hubbard, was in it for the money.

Obama, Gore, stop whining about right-wing media

What liberals sometimes forget is that the conservative media took root because many Americans felt the fourth estate was too left-wing. ABC, NBC, CBS, NPR, The New York Times and The Washington Post all strive for fairness, in my view, but there is little question that they have a social and cultural outlook that leans to the left. Collectively, they have far more weight than Fox, talk radio and The Wall Street Journal editorial page.

I love this Libaugh quote:
Limbaugh later offered this response: "If Fox News and I are the only thing keeping the Republicans from caving to Barack Obama on every issue, I'm not paid enough."

When did legit media questions become ‘an attack’?

Poor Al Gore.

Despite being $100 million richer after selling Current TV to Al Jazeera, the former vice president just can’t catch a break. Politico worries that Gore isn’t the “media darling” he used to be.

From “Today” to “Morning Joe” to “Late Show with David Letterman” to “The Daily Show,” Gore has come under attack by his interviewers for his decision to sell Current TV to Al Jazeera.

“Come under attack”?

This guy could have been President Gore

UPDATE: AL-JAZEERA buys CURRENT TV from Al Gore...

From the Times Lies

Al Jazeera on Wednesday announced a deal to take over Current TV, the low-rated cable channel that was founded by Al Gore, a former vice president, and his business partners seven years ago. [snip]

Al Jazeera did not disclose the purchase price, but people with direct knowledge of the deal pegged it at around $500 million, indicating a $100 million payout for Mr. Gore, who owned 20 percent of Current. Mr. Gore and his partners were eager to complete the deal by Dec. 31, lest it be subject to higher tax rates that took effect on Jan. 1

Glenn Reynolds comments:
AL JAZEERA BUYS CURRENT TV. “Mr. Gore and his partners were eager to complete the deal by Dec. 31, lest it be subject to higher tax rates that took effect on Jan. 1.”

That’s Irony #1. Irony #2 is Al Gore walking away with $100 million in dirty oil money. Well, it would be ironic if it weren’t so predictable. Al’s a whore, basically. Gore, I mean. Not Jazeera.

Barack Obama and Other Has-Beens

Would it surprise you to learn that the net worth of the 70 richest delegates in China's National People's Congress averages out to more than $1 billion per delegate?  We're talking about a government that say's it's Communist, you know, everybody's equal?

Certain members of the press - like the NY Times columnist Thomas Friedman - love the Chinese Communist system.  You know, the leadership says "jump" and the people ask "how high?"  Well, those in control apparently have been saving their pennies and - who knew - in the land of equality some appear to be much, much more equal than others.  Please note that in the US, while a lot of people in government are rich, they are not rich by People's Republic standards.

But we're getting there. From the Wall Street Journal

Earlier this month the Washington Post's Carol Leonnig reported that the former vice president's wealth is today estimated at $100 million, up from less than $2 million when he left government service on a salary of $181,400. How did he make this kind of money? It wasn't his share of the Nobel Peace Prize. Nor was it the book and movie proceeds from "An Inconvenient Truth."

Instead, as Ms. Leonnig reports, "Fourteen green-tech firms in which Gore invested received or directly benefited from more than $2.5 billion in loans, grants and tax breaks, part of President Obama's historic push to seed a U.S. renewable-energy industry with public money."

It helps to have friends in high places.  And the workers? Not so much.

The Post story mentions one of the beneficiaries of Mr. Gore's investment acumen, Milwaukee-based Johnson Controls, which won a $299 million award from the federal government in 2009 to make electric-car batteries. Here's how that worked out:

"The company has dramatically scaled back, after executives concluded demand for electric cars was far lower than the administration forecast. The factory outfitted with stimulus funds is nearly idle, and plans to build a second plant have been postponed."

And the Big "O" himself?

When the history of this administration is written, maybe someone will note the dissonance between the president's hip persona and his retro ideology. Here was a man who promised a "transformative" presidency. Yet when transformation came, it amounted to a two-pronged attempt to impose, from one side, a version of European social democracy by way of ObamaCare, and from the other side a version of Chinese state-directed "capitalism" by way of the stimulus.

As a political matter it may have been Mr. Obama's good luck that the bankruptcy of both models became obvious only after he had gotten his way legislatively on both. Yet the president's sagging fortunes have everything to do with his buying into an ideological enthusiasm too late. In a different age, Mr. Obama would have been the guy who went out and bought an Edsel. In this age, Mr. Obama is the guy demanding that you buy an Edsel, too. That car is today called the Volt.

Many years ago when I was a kid, I had a friend whose parents knew people in Mexico. When Kennedy was elected the Mexicans commented that we were lucky that Kennedy was already rich. In Mexico the road to "real" wealth was to win the Presidency which meant that you controlled the graft and were assured of becoming a billionaire. It appears that Mexico was simply a generation ahead of us.

Blaming Al Gore

Walter Russell Mead takes Al Gore to task for failure to live the lifestyle that corresponds to the rather hysterical predictions he has made about global warming … that is caused by the Gore lifestyle. In doing so, he blames Gore for the failure of the Greens to advance their cause. In the end, we don’t know whether Mead is like the atheist who mocks the fallen evangelist or the believer who is angry that his idol has feet of clay.

But Mead is wrong in blaming the failure of the Global Warming crowd on its spokesman, Gore. Gore is simply a convenient symbol to people who never bought into the hyperbole or who had the scales removed from their eyes when opponents of the theory exposed its flaws. No thinking person took Gore, a failed theology student, for a scientific guru. He was always a front man, as politicians most often are. His language was so Manichean that it was repellent. In his Rolling Stone article he says:
“In one corner of the ring are Science and Reason. In the other corner: Poisonous Polluters and Right-wing Ideologues.”

I was waiting for some indication that this was a bit of self-effacing hyperbole, but it was not. This is actually Al Gore in his entire Green splendor: the purest good fighting the basest evil. This is not a scientist making his case: this was Billy Sunday blasting the Devil incarnate.

Mead begins his essay with:
“It must be as perplexing to his many admirers as it is frustrating to himself that a man of Vice President Gore’s many talents, great skills and strong beliefs is one of the most consistent losers in American politics.”

It doesn’t take much more than that single sentence in that Rolling Stone article to cause you to ask not why he’s such a loser but why he has so many admirers.

Remember when dissent was patriotic? If anyone tells you that the Tea Party is radical, remind them of this!

From the Dana Show

Listen to the whole thing:
"We're going to have to come out and kill somebody I guess."

George Bush as Hitler:

Sarah Palin as Hitler:

This is the Left, unvarnished, unfiltered by the MFM. These are Obama's natural allies. These are the ones who now call the Tea Party demonstrators racists and fascists, scary kooks and the American Taliban wanting to turn the US into a theocracy. They are the ones who did not get onto the pages of the Virginian Pilot, the NY Times or the Washington Post when Bush was president because they were an "inconvenient truth." They are the ones roaming the halls of congress and the White House today and the reason that the people are revolting at the ballot box.

We're not planning to kill anyone, even though they thought about killing us. We're just going to make them irrelevant; put them in a museum where people can look at them and and stare in wonder the these specimens ever took control in our country.

Al Gore A "Crazed Sex Poodle?"

You can't make this stuff up!  From the "Smoking Gun"
In a bizarre statement to police, the Oregon woman who claims that Al Gore fondled and groped her during a massage session described the former Vice President as a giggling "crazed sex poodle" who gave a "come hither" look before pouncing on her in a Portland hotel suite.

Portland police looked the other way. (Gee, I wonder if it had anything to dowith politics?)

An image of the police report

Proof that Gore was in Portland at the time:
A police report prepared in 2007 said the alleged incident happened on Oct. 24, 2006. Gore was in Portland to give a speech on climate change.
And on the "what Liberal Media" front we find that the Portland Tribune has the story 2 years ago:
Portland Tribune had the story two years ago, and writes that it "chose at that time not to publish a story."

"Mrs. David made whopping contributions to Democratic causes"

From WowOWow

It sounds as if she gave it her all.

An unfortunate choice of words ... and a terrible mental image that I want to forget.

"I never had sex with that man ... Al Gore"

NY Daily News.

"The story is completely untrue," Laurie David said in a statement.

"It's a total fabrication. I adore both Al and Tipper. I look at them both as family. And I have happily been in a serious relationship since my divorce."

A Gore spokeswoman said Gore would not comment on the stream of stories about his separation. He normally refuses to comment on personal matters.

Well, I guess I wouldn't admit sleeping with Shamu either.  "I was sleeping with someone else" is her explanation.

Exclusive: Al Gore Cheats with Larry David's Ex

Al Gore's split from wife Tipper after 40 years of marriage was a shock to everyone who thought theirs was the ideal marriage. Now Star can exclusively reveal that the former Vice President was having an affair with Larry David's ex-wife — for the past two years!

Pictures of Al Gore's New $9 Million Mansion

This is what perpetrating fraud on a global scale will get you.

Not bad for a guy who was worth about $2 million before he discovered the road to riches via global warming a decade ago.

He managed to say this with a straight face (an no one in the MSM media has made called him on it).

Every penny that I have made, I have put right into a non-profit deal, Alliance For Climate Protection, to spread awareness of why we have to take on this challenge. And Congresswomen, if your, if, if you believe that the reason I have been working on this issue for 30 years is because of greed, you do not know me.
Now, imagine for a moment there were actually journalists still in America and not advocates pretending to be journalists.

A former Vice President who last year told a House committee he was putting all of his earnings into a non-profit company to "spread awareness of why we have to take on" global warming a year later buys a $9 million mansion with six fireplaces, five bedrooms, and nine bathrooms for him and his wife.

Don't you think SOMEBODY should have reported it other than Fox News, the LA Times, and conservative bloggers?

VIDEO PROOF– The Associated Press Just Lied For Al Gore

One does not "mis-speak" the same lie multiple times. But if that's what the press wants to peddle, it's death will not be mourned.

The AP lied for Al Gore today, via Sweetness and Light.
The Associated Press reported:

Clarification: Gore misspoke on polar ice data
(AP) – 7 hours ago

COPENHAGEN — In an early version of a Dec. 14 story, Al Gore told the U.N. climate conference that new data suggested the Arctic polar ice cap may disappear in the summertime within five to seven years. Gore’s office later clarified his statement and said he meant the cap would be nearly ice-free.

Of course, this is not true.
The Goracle also told an audience in Germany last year that “the entire North Polari(ized) cap will disappear in 5 years.”

Journalists spied, refugees died ...

It seems that the video shot by the two Al Gore sponsored journalists will lead to torture or death ...

Other refugees, denied the assistance of a network to help them escape North Korea, will now be limited to the option of dying in place. There won’t be a Bill Clinton visit for them, and I doubt Bill Richardson raised the subject while he was whoring for the cameras.

[...] I hope that Ms. Ling and Ms. Lee will use some of the media interest they’ve attracted to bring attention to the horrors they were used to help perpetrate. I suppose there is no undoing what is done, but there is atonement in what Ling and Lee could still do to save others.

They’d better start soon. A lifetime may not be enough to repay a karmic debt this ghastly. But that’s still more than can be said for the thugs who run China.

Inhofe Calls Gore's Climate Message 'Desperate'

From The Hill blog
Inhofe called Gore's message "desperate," and noted the irony of it being delivered on such an icy day in D.C. "They almost had to cancel it because of freezing weather, and last year they did cancel it because of cold weather," Inhofe said. "I'd say he has a real serious problem. But he's already made his $100 million, so I don't think he needs to worry too much about it. But the science and logic are on our side, and we are winning."

The Huffington Post Refutes Global Warming ... Watch Out for Flying Pigs.

You are probably wondering whether President-elect Obama owes the world an apology for his actions regarding global warming. The answer is, not yet. There is one person, however, who does. You have probably guessed his name: Al Gore.

Mr. Gore has stated, regarding climate change, that "the science is in." Well, he is absolutely right about that, except for one tiny thing. It is the biggest whopper ever sold to the public in the history of humankind.

Read the whole thing.
