Corporate Media Don’t Care How Much Money They Lose So Long As They Control The Narrative

Destroying the corrupt press is a noble goal, but it’s not sufficient to tear down the rotten outlets. Americans must fund the good ones.

It's why I subscribe to Epoch Times

“The left does not win its battles in debate. It doesn’t have to. In the twenty-first century, media is everything. The left wins because it controls the narrative. The narrative is controlled by the media. The left is the media. Narrative is everything. I call it the Democrat-media complex,” said the late Andrew Breitbart.

While destroying the corrupt propaganda press is a noble goal, the country needs a free and functioning press to hold the government and other powerful interests accountable. It’s not sufficient to tear down the rotten outlets.

Good journalism must be funded. Left-wing media outlets enjoy the massive support not just of left-wing donors but also corporate interests. It’s money very well spent, no matter how much of it they lose. Those who want to preserve the republic must also devote resources to wage against the information operations being run against the country.

Facebook Forces NYT to Quietly Delete Unflattering Reference to Sheryl Sandberg

OTOH the headline could well say that the NY Times and Facebook collude to cover up facts that are inconvenient to THE NARRATIVE.

The New York Times apparently offers powerful third parties the ability to edit away–that is, to delete from the internet–unfavorable coverage appearing in the paper of record’s online edition.

One such entity afforded the privilege is Facebook. And this has legal experts raising antitrust concerns.

It's why all of the MSM gives you the same version of a story.  They're not competitors, they're partners in propaganda.

Read the whole thing.

WHY WE HATE THE MEDIA, CHAPTER 12, 879

A lot of liberal media types are deploring the deplorable people who deplore the media because of the result of this chart drawn from Gallup survey data showing that Democratic trust in the (Trump-hating) media is soaring, while discriminating people (that is, Republicans) continue to have less and less regard for the media:

Surprise, surprise! I wonder what could be causing this “polarization”? Maybe things like this, from the newspaper owned by the richest man in the world, the Washington Post:

It’s Time to Give Socialism a Try

News flash, Ms. Bruenig: Socialism has been tried. Lots of times. With the same result. If you send me your address, I’ll send you a hammer and you can try that experiment. Or Option 2, I’ll send you a one-way ticket to Venezuela. I’m sure you can help straighten them out. Won’t take but more than a dozen more columns like this. Or did I miss something and this column is actually an application for an academic appointment?

WHY SPECULATE? A talk by Michael Crichton

There are two times in a man’s life when he should not speculate: when he can’t afford it and when he can. —Mark Twain

My topic for today is the prevalence of speculation in media. What does it mean? Why has it become so ubiquitous? Should we do something about it? If so, what? And why? Should we care at all? Isn’t speculation valuable? Isn’t it natural? And so on.

I will join this speculative trend and speculate about why there is so much speculation. In keeping with the trend, I will try to express my views without any factual support, simply providing you with a series of bald assertions.

This is not my natural style, and it’s going to be a challenge for me, but I will do my best. Some of you may see that I have written out my talk, which is already a contradiction of principle. To keep within the spirit of our time, it should really be off the top of my head.

Before we begin, I’d like to clarify a definition. By the media I mean movies, television, Internet, books, newspapers and magazines. Again, in keeping with the general trend of speculation, let’s not make too many fine distinctions.

First we might begin by asking, to what degree has the media turned to pure speculation? Someone could do a study of this and present facts, but nobody has. I certainly won’t. There’s no reason to bother. The requirement that you demonstrate a factual basis for your claim vanished long ago. It went out with the universal praise for Susan Faludi’s book Backlash, which won the National Book Critics Circle Award for General Nonfiction in 1991, and which presented hundreds of pages of quasi-statistical assertions based on a premise that was never demonstrated and that was almost certainly false.

But that’s old news. I merely refer to it now to set standards.

[DRUDGE] Media working overtime to become the shittiest in the world

Trump asking the important questions:
“Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?”

MEDIA GO WILD!

McAuliffe Says He'd Slug Trump: 'You'd Have To Pick Him Up off Floor'...

PEW: American media bias worst in world...

Pew: US media bias ranks worst in the world

More than in any other country, Americans on both sides of the political aisle believe the media does does a poor job covering political issues fairly, according to a blockbuster new survey of media consumption in 38 nations.

The U.S. media is working overtime to destroy it's own reputation.

Strictly Rhetorical Question: Why Does the Media Not Report That ISIS Was Defeated in Iraq and Its Capital City of Raqqa in Syria Has Been Captured by US-Allied Troops?

Ace of Spades:

I would imagine for much the same reason the media is silent on the economy.

Though this is consistent: after all, the media was largely silent on the economy and ISIS under Obama, too. For different reasons, of course.

The U.S. Media Yesterday Suffered its Most Humiliating Debacle in Ages: Now Refuses All Transparency Over What Happened

Glen Greenwald (a Leftist) says that the US press is so unhinged about Trump that is is in the process of destroying itself.  And he's right!

Excerpt:

Just last week, the Washington Post decided – to great applause (including mine) – to expose a source to whom they had promised anonymity and off-the-record protections because they discovered that she was purposely feeding them false information as part of a scheme by Project Veritas to discredit the Post. It’s a well established principle of journalism – one that is rarely followed when it comes to powerful people in DC – that journalists should expose, rather than protect and conceal, sources who purposely feed them false information to be disseminated to the public....

Is that what happened here? Did these “multiple sources” who fed not just CNN but also MSNBC and CBS completely false information do so deliberately and in bad faith? Until these news outlets provide an accounting of what happened – what one might call “minimal journalistic transparency” – it’s impossible to say for certain. But right now, it’s very difficult to imagine a scenario where multiple sources all fed the wrong date to multiple media outlets innocently and in good faith.

The Left has absolutely no sense of humor.

The Left has absolutely no sense of humor.  Here is how the NY Times reported Trump’s wisecrack about Hillary’s deleted emails:

“Donald J. Trump said on Wednesday that he hoped Russian intelligence services had successfully hacked Hillary Clinton’s email, and encouraged them to publish whatever they may have stolen, essentially urging a foreign adversary to conduct cyberespionage against a former secretary of state.

“Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing,” Mr. Trump said during a news conference here in an apparent reference to Mrs. Clinton’s deleted emails. “I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press.”

Mr. Trump’s call was another bizarre moment in the mystery of whether Vladimir V. Putin’s government has been seeking to influence the United States’ presidential race.

They took his joke at Hillary’s expense as an honest-to-God call for Putin to hack Hillary’s server via a public speech.  This is moronic.  This is Forrest Gump stupid.

The entire rest of the MSM took the same approach: NPR, Politico, NBC, WSJ, WaPo, LA Times, Time, NBC, ABC, Fortune .... the list is endless and you can check for yourself.  Google Donald Trump calls for Putin to locate Hillary's emails

We all know that Trump had already asked Putin to steal Hillary’s emails by secretly sending George Bush to the Kremlin in a SR-71 so he could be back in time for dinner and grope a CNN cutie.

The Mainstream Media Doesn’t Deserve Our Respect or Our Trust

It's not just the obnoxious and lying asshole Brian Ross.

The mainstream liberal media is primarily composed of stumblebum leftist jerks who want all the glory and respect due a caste of objective, moral truth-seekers, yet who don’t want to do the hard work of actually being objective or moral or seeking the truth. “I can’t pass, and I can’t tackle, and practice is really a hassle, but I’m wearing a sportsball jersey so I want your adulation and a Super Bowl ring!”

Nah. They think we owe them respect and trust when all they’ve earned is our contempt.

You have Matt Lauer, probably America’s most highly-paid journalist, who “everyone” knew was a skeevy weirdo who’d probably creep out Woody Allen. Well, everyone did know, except us, the media’s audience. Our media overlords didn’t think we needed to know that little bit of information. Some obscure Texas congressmen sends texts of his ancient junk to a girlfriend and, after he dumps her, she gets mad and puts them up on the web? Oh, that’s news – America must know that vital info. But when the flagship anchor of the flagship show on the flagship broadcast network uses his powers to basically build a sex dungeon in 30 Rock – nope, not news. Shhhhh. Matt’s just bein’ Matt. Move along. Nothing to see here. For gosh sakes, look at how much he hates the NRA!

Alternative facts

The next person who cites Kellyanne Conway's reference to "alternative facts" as an example of a lie is going to have my shoe in his ass.

Why is it so hard to understand that there are press “facts” and there are other facts that the press leaves out.

Tyler O'Neil writes an entire article about the real meaning of "1984" and appear oblivious to the fact that reality is NOT the media narrative.

Like the fact that when Antifa attacked Trump supporters at his rallies the press reported the “fact” that Trump’s rallies were violent, omitting the fact that the violence was all committed by Bernie and Hillary supporters.

There’s the fact that the rallies in Charlottesville involved “Nazis” - deluded jerks who could hold a convention in a phone booth but who actually marched peacefully - until they met an equally despicable gang of masked rioters (Antifa) and, because the police were told to stand down, the riot started.

There’s the “fact” of global warming and there’s the alternative fact that none of the global warming models match reality. Alternative facts are facts that the media, as they bring "1984" up to date, chooses to ignore.

Does the media merely approve of poisoning public opinion against the One True Evil Race?

Ace of Spades:

Charleston Shooting Ends With One Dead, Millions of Progressives So Disappointed They Just Can't Even

Here were the Twitter Progz expecting -- and hoping -- that the shooter would be a White Man. I would say "Evil White Man," but that seems redundant in 2017.
Well, it turns out he was a black guy.
CNN follows its stylebook here, which demands that all white perps be identified as such, and that nonwhite perps not be described in any detail.
Remember, the media stopped reporting on crime almost altogether -- and carefully omitting racial attributes of minority perps where it was forced to report on it -- when minority activists objected, arguing -- plausibly -- that showing daily a parade of minority criminals would influence the public that minorities are criminals.
That's plausible. I'm not sure I can agree that the trade-off -- embargoing news -- is worth it, but the rational is plausible.
In which case I have to ask:
Why does the media make sure that all white perps involved in crimes, especially racial or political ones, are relentlessly reported on and their whiteness made central to the story?
Does the media not think the same rule applies, that is, constantly featuring criminals of a certain race will poison public opinion against that race?
Or do they merely approve of poisoning public opinion against the One True Evil Race?

On Intimidation and Character Assassination

Intimidation is a common feature of Leftist politics, such that most regular folks routinely hide the extent of their true political beliefs.

Leftists have taken it upon themselves to insinuate that this is racism, or some other -ism, and that we are all secret fascists who merely don’t want our horrible views exposed to daylight. But they have it exactly backwards, probably by design. You see, actual neo-Nazis and modern fascists are anything but secretive about their beliefs. Though they are very few, they are also very loud. They want to be seen. They have already paid the social price for it. Calling a Nazi a Nazi doesn’t hurt their feelings any. They know what they are.

In this, SJWs and their ilk are projecting their own behavior onto their ideological opponents. Many SJWs are thinly-veiled Communists, so they presume that we must all be thinly-veiled Nazis. After all, it’s the sort of thing they would do in our place.

In reality, most people on the Right are just scared. Not of physical violence for the most part, though perhaps some worry about that too. Rather, they fear character assassination. They fear being tarred as racist, sexist, or some other thing, and losing their friends, their jobs, and their good names.

It all comes down to the media. Without the power of the media to amplify such nonsensical accusations, nobody would fear the Left. We would laugh at such insults. The stupidity of calling everybody a secret fascist would be readily apparent. But with the media able to pick any random target it wishes, and assassinate that person’s character at will, with little to no possibility of defense… the fear is there.

Incidents like what happened to Justine Sacco reinforce this. Remember Brendan Eich “resigning” (we all know the he was pressured to do so). Remember the media trotting out to the middle of nowhere to find a pizza shop that didn’t want to cater gay weddings. The implication is that anyone could be a target. Being a small business owner in the middle of nowhere doesn’t make you safe.

Nobody is safe from the media. That’s what they want you to believe, but in such a way that no one clearly states it, that nobody clearly admits it, so that they always retain plausible deniability.

Note that since Trump unexpectedly won the election, the media has been dedicating itself 24/7 to doing nothing but assassinating his character. They even tacitly excuse literal assassination, in the case of Steve Scalise.

You don't hear much about Steve Scalise in the media. In fact outside of Fox News, Steve Scalese has disappeared. Because the media can't admit that it encouraged one of their followers to assassinate Republicans.

This is the press

Firms pressed to defend ads on left-leaning Rachel Maddow, Anderson Cooper

Taking a page out of liberal protests targeting Fox News' "Hannity" show, a top conservative group opened a campaign Wednesday targeting six MSNBC and four CNN political shows for skewing left.

"Today we are putting ten shows, and their major corporate sponsors on notice that we are watching their every move," said Brent Bozell, president of the Media Research Center.

Here is a list of advertisers. Go to the MRC website to see which advertisers are on these shows.

Why the MSM is so far out of touch.

Fred on Everything.

Do you wonder why the legacy media are such puzzled otherworldly twits? Why, for example, they had no idea what was happening in the recent election? Why they seem to know so very little about America or much of anything else?

Some thoughts from a guy who spent a career in the racket:

Ask journalists when they were last in a truck stop on an Interstate, last in Boone, North Carolina or Barstow, California or any of thousands of such towns across the country. Ask whether they were in the military, whether they have ever talked to a cop or an ambulance crewman or a fireman. Ask whether they have a Mexican friend, when they last ate in a restaurant where a majority of the customers were black. Whether they know an enlisted man, or anyone in the armed services. Whether they have hitchhiked overnight, baited a hook, hunted, or fired a rifle. Whether they have ever worked washing dishes, harvesting crops, driving a delivery truck. Whether they have a blue-collar friend. Know what the Texas Two-Step is, have been in a biker bar.

Now do you see why Trump surprised them?

Next, ask how many went to fancy schools like Oberlin, Swarthmore, Amherst, the Ivies, Bard. Ask how many even know someone who graduated from a land-grant school. Ask whether they know an engineer.

Now look at how much they write about each other for each other. Look at the endless coverage of what Maddow said about what Hannity thought about O’Reilly’s harassment of soft-porn star Megyn and how much she might make at CNN. Ask how much time they spend comparing ratings. They are fascinated by themselves.

...

In a curious process of self-delusion, they imagine a world that doesn’t exist and then try to live in it. For example, they don’t know what cops face in the ghetto because they have never been in the ghetto and don’t know any cops. They dismiss anyone who tells them that things are not as they think. Their confidence is invincible, for do not all their friends say the same things?

Their ideological attachment to political correctness is–obviously–strong. This is particularly stark with respect to race. Week after week, year after year, we read on the internet of whites beaten, burned, punched, of stores looted by flash mobs and wrecked in brawls. The perpetrators are always “teens” or “troubled youths.” If you ask reporters why they never mention race, they say things like “race is irrelevant. A crime is a crime.” But let a white cop shoot a black attacker, and nothing matters except race–not truth, guilt or innocence.

They see no hypocrisy in this....

That’s why the mainstream media are largely vapid and predictable. It is why the internet, not bound by political correctness or controlled by corporations, able to specialize, to serve intelligent readers, is now primary.
