The New Kremlinology: Reading the New York Times

On Monday, the New York Times ran a story pegged to a new poll, showing Joe Biden dragging a sub-Trumpish 33% approval rating into the midterms. The language was grave:

Widespread concerns about the economy and inflation have helped turn the national mood decidedly dark, both on Mr. Biden and the trajectory of the nation… a pervasive sense of pessimism that spans every corner of the country...

The article followed another from the weekend, “At 79, Biden Is Testing the Boundaries of Age and the Presidency.” That piece, about Biden’s age — code for “cognitive decline” — was full of doom as well:

Mr. Biden looks older than just a few years ago, a political liability that cannot be solved by traditional White House stratagems like staff shake-ups… Some aides quietly watch out for him. He often shuffles when he walks, and aides worry he will trip on a wire. He stumbles over words during public events, and they hold their breath to see if he makes it to the end without a gaffe.

Biden’s descent was obvious six years ago. Following the candidate in places like Nevada, Iowa, and New Hampshire, I listened to traveling press joke about his general lack of awareness and discuss new precautions his aides seemed to be taking to prevent him engaging audience members at events.

Ignorant Senator Shares New York Times Article Thinking It's Real

WASHINGTON, D.C.—A U.S. Senator has made what some are calling "an embarrassing mistake" after he shared a New York Times article on Twitter, apparently unaware that The New York Times is a popular fake news site.

The New York Times is a well-known publication that started as a newspaper but has switched to satire in recent years. According to sources, the Senator had been misinformed by some political operatives telling him that the newspaper was a "trustworthy source of news."

"We all need to do our part to fight the spread of misinformation," said the senator in a statement. "I'm embarrassed to say I was tricked by this headline. I thought the article was real. I quickly took the tweet down after learning that The New York Times is a satire site known for spreading hate and lies. I promise to do better in the future."

HOW TO GENERATE FAKE NEWS BY FRANK J. FLEMING

 TIPS FOR MAKING FAKE NEWS

Include real details. One of the important features of fake news is that it sounds real. That means you include details that are true. For instance, let’s say you start an article this way:

President Trump today set fire to a…

People will read that and say to themselves, “The president is Trump! This could be a real story!”

Or if you start a story with:

Today in Washington, D.C., the capital of the United States, escaped llamas...

People will google that and say, “Hey, Washington, D.C., is the capital of the United States. The rest of this story could be true as well!”

But if you get a detail wrong that people know, that could ruin the whole ruse. For example, if you wrote:

Boron, which has a melting point of 2,113 degrees Kelvin…

Someone could say, “Hey, Boron has a melting point of 2,349 degrees Kelvin! What is this guy trying to pull? Maybe the rest of this article about Russians putting a mind-control device in Kamala Harris is wrong as well.”

Read the whole thing.

News the White House Press Corps be all over like a pack of hyenas

“In the news today, President Trump failed to specifically denounce alien invasions, raising the possibility that he might betray the human race to the Xargon Imperium if reelected . . .

Media Silent As Christopher Steele ‘Hero’ ‘Spymaster’ Narrative Crumbles

Mollie Heming way names names.

The media liars who peddled the Russia hoax.

 Read the whole thing.

For years, the media assured Americans that the dossier alleging treasonous collusion between Donald Trump and Russia was based on the scrupulous work of a mastermind British ex-spy and his vast network of credible and well-connected sources spread throughout Europe.

It wasn’t true. Steele did not personally collect any of the factual information in his reports.

The “vast network” was instead a “social circle” of an American-based former Brookings Institute junior staffer, recently identified for the first time as Igor Danchenko.

The friends didn’t have well-documented claims so much as rumors, drunken gossip, and outright brainstorming, conjecture, and speculation.

Even that information was “multiple layers of hearsay upon hearsay” before it got to Steele, who then hyperbolically overstated it.

And the damning claims of “collusion” appear to have been scandalously misattributed or invented out of whole cloth.

With such shoddy information collection and analysis methods, there was never any reason to give credence to any of the salacious allegations in the dossier, whether it was claims of secret deals with Russian oil concerns, secret meetings in foreign capitals, prostitutes urinating on Moscow hotel room beds, files of compromising information, or the careful cultivation of Trump, yes Trump, into the most effective Russian agent in history.
Here are the 21 primary liars that participated in a treasonous coup attempt to overthrow an elected American President.
  1.  Adam Goldman
  2.  David Corn
  3. Michael Horowitz
  4.  Michael Isikoff
  5.  Evan Perez
  6. Jim Sciutto
  7. Jake Tapper
  8. Carl Bernstein
  9. Michele Neubert
  10. Ken Dilanian
  11. Cassandra Vinograd
  12. Tracy Connor
  13. Bradley Hope
  14. Michael Rothfeld
  15.  Alan Cullison

  17. Matthew Rosenberg
  18. Luke Harding

Fake News people are not serious, but that doesn't mean they are not dangerous

Derek Hunter at Townhall

... unserious people with serious power are a danger. These people have votes in Congress or millions of people who believe what they say, no matter how absurd, wrong, or biased they may be. When they add their twist to a story, it has the ability to become “truth” to their audience. That’s a lot of power.
...
The NY Times busy framing the story that the criminal probe into the Russia hoax is illegitimate:
“For more than two years, President Trump has repeatedly attacked the Russia investigation, portraying it as a hoax and illegal even months after the special counsel closed it,” the Times story opens, as if a closed investigation could not be a hoax or how the whole thing came into being should not even be wondered about because it was over.

The “news” story continues, “The opening of a criminal investigation is likely to raise alarms that Mr. Trump is using the Justice Department to go after his perceived enemies.”

“Likely to raise alarms” with who? Why? Who, after the promises made that were exposed as lies by the Mueller probe, wouldn’t want to know how it happened, if only to avoid it happening again?

The fact of the matter is these self-appointed arbiters of truth have no interest in knowing how this fraud began. How it was the spy apparatus that is supposed to be aimed at the rest of the world to keep us safe was directed at American citizens, something expressly forbidden without extreme cause by the laws that govern it.
Andrea Mitchell does the same:
“Serious journalist” Andrea Mitchell, the chief foreign affairs correspondent for NBC News and also has a show on MSNBC where she opines on domestic politics, opened her discussion on the investigation by declaring the concept “tracks closely” with what is being discussed “in right-wing media.” Again, curious, narrative-enforcing framing.

Mitchell then brought on two guests, both former Obama administration officials (for balance, naturally) who proceeded to dismiss the idea as a “debunked conspiracy theory” and lamented how those being questioned would have to hire lawyers because it will cost them money. Mitchell has expressed no such concern for any of the people who’ve had to drain their savings while being dragged before the Special Counsel and Congress countless times for the sin of having worked for the Trump campaign.

ABC News Reports Trump Nuked Entire World, Later Clarifies He Just Microwaved A Burrito

.... ABC News reporter Brian Ross broke the erroneous story, describing in great detail how Trump had finally decided he’d had enough and launched over 4,000 nuclear warheads at every single country on the planet. The White House quickly disputed the story, however, pointing out that in reality, the only thing Trump had nuked was a microwavable burrito “for 90 seconds on High.”

“We apologize for the minor error,” an ABC News spokesperson said Monday after the clarification had been issued. “One of our reporters did seem to suggest that Donald Trump instigated a nuclear apocalypse, destroying nearly all of humanity, and we recognize that is a minor factual error when compared with the actual event that occurred, that being the simple microwaving of a frozen snack.”

James Carafano: Syria cease-fire follows completely appropriate actions by Trump – Avoids needless bloodshed

All the best people told me that there would be a horrible bloodshed.

By the way, other than long shots of artillery fire, has the press actually shown the mass atrocities that were predicted?

And how about the establishment of the ISIS Caliphate?

All the horrors that were predicted have so far failed to show up.   They still may, but so far all we have is the people around Washington with their hair on fire because Trump pulled some troops out of harm's way.

Don Surber: "How the media blew the Syria story"

This morning at 8, BBC posted a story, "Turkey's Erdogan 'threw Trump's Syria letter in bin.'" It was Fake News.

This afternoon at 2, President Donald John Trump announced Erdogan agreed to a cease-fire along the Syrian border.

Once again, the press got the story all wrong. President Trump knew what he was doing and succeeded where his predecessors had failed. He removed American troops in order to bring peace to a section of the Middle East. He used tariffs, not soldiers, to force the issue.

The Washington press corps covering President Trump is incompetent and corrupt as it violates the public trust by deliberately trying to sabotage the man the American people elected president.

President Trump's mediation of the Kurd-Turk dispute is award-worthy. The press blew the story by attacking our president. Amid all the false reports of coming calamity and impending genocide, I advised readers to Trust Trump. He earned it.

And of course I was right because getting President Trump right is the easiest thing in the world to do. Just accept that he is better informed than the press, and he knows what he is doing.

But the media is a bunch of garbage peddlers. You have your garbage collectors who help keep America clean and safe, and then you have your garbage producers at CNN and the like.

The fog of war expelled by the American media was a historic embarrassment to anyone who is now or has ever been a member of the Fourth Estate. Obamanauts -- including generals -- were allowed to say whatever they wanted to try to undermine President Trump's peace efforts without bothering (in most cases) to allow the Trump administration to respond.

Crazy talk of genocide filled the cable airwaves.

ABC was caught using training footage from Kentucky to depict a non-existent "Slaughter in Syria."

Has it issued an on-air apology or correction yet?

Now that a deal has been cut, I expect the media to take potshots at it before dropping the subject entirely. Once again, President Trump has achieved the impossible and the media will deny him credit because they did everything they could to prevent peace from breaking out.

Read the whole thing.

FAKE NEWS: Liberal Media Falsely Claims White House Admitted to Quid Pro Quo with Ukraine

While Mulvaney did not himself use the term “quid pro quo,” when he was told by a reporter during a White House press conference that the situation of withholding aid to get Ukraine was in fact a quid pro quo, Mulvaney said, “We do that all the time.”

“You’re saying the president of the US can’t ask someone to help with an ongoing public investigation?” Mulvaney said.
During a July 25 phone call with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky — at a time when the White House was withholding military aid from Zelensky’s country — Trump asked Zelensky to “get to the bottom” of questions about the 2016 election.

None of this is new information. We knew from the transcript that President Trump asked for Ukraine's help in the ongoing investigation into the 2016 election. We also know that Ukraine didn't even know that the military aid was being withheld until a month after Trump's call with President Zelensky.

“I have news for everybody," Mulvaney said. "Get over it. There’s going to be political influence in foreign policy ... that’s going to happen. Elections have consequences.”

This is true. Obama threatened to cut off aid to Nigeria over anti-gay legislation in the country in 2011, and again in 2013 over corruption issues. Joe Biden and the entire media argue that his threat to withhold a billion-dollar loan to Ukraine unless they fired their head prosecutor was not a quid pro quo because, they say, the prosecutor was corrupt.

Despite this, the media is claiming, falsely, that the White House has admitted to a quid pro quo. Other outlets like HuffPost, The Daily Beast, Washington Post, have all echoed the claim. The New York Times falsely claimed in a tweet that Mulvaney admitted aid was cut off to Ukraine to pressure them to investigate Democrats. Adam Schiff is claiming Mulvaney's statement has made things "much, much worse."

Yeah, not at all.

Even FOX News suggests that this was a gaffe that needed to be "walked back."    That's bullshit.

While Cracking Down On Fringe Conspiracy Theorists, Facebook Accidentally Bans CNN

Babylon Bee:

"Our algorithm looked for pages and people that were constantly peddling outlandish conspiracy theories, and it seems to have banned CNN for some reason," a Facebook representative said in a statement. "It appears that since CNN is still insisting that President Trump colluded with Russia, despite a mountain of facts and evidence showing that he did not, our computer systems determined that our network would have much less fake news without CNN."

Mark Steyn's Take On Jussie Smollett Fake Hate Crime: "The Tinge of Fake hate"

"In Chicago where people are violently attacked all week long, every weekend dozens and dozens of people get shot, this is the only guy who actually has to pay somebody four grand to whack him. That's how little homophobia and racism there is in Chicago.  Everybody else is too busy shooting each other on a non-racial, non-homophobic basis that this guy has to pay two Nigerians four grand to beat the crap out of him."

View the whole thing.

Mark comments on the reaction from the media and Democrats: what's fascinating is that a lot of big shot commentators who don't refer to the Smollett "attack" as a freakish thing - which it is - but that they actually say that this is America in 2019 as if black homosexuals are attacked on sub-zero temperatures in Chicago, doused with bleach and having clothesline hung around their necks every day.   That's insane!

Fake Noose

Headline of the week!

Manqué cineaste Simon Lynxx needs to raise money for his film, so he pays two black friends to mug elderly movie mogul Hermann Wolff, so Lynxx can rescue him and get cash out of gratitude. That’s from Take Five, a D. Keith Mano novel released in 1982, the year actor Jussie Smollett was born.

Nearly four decades later, Smollett is an actor in the Fox series Empire, centered on hip-hop artist Lucious Lyon, CEO of Empire Entertainment. In real life, not on the show, Smollett sends a threatening letter to himself showing a noose, then pays two black friends to attack him in Chicago, which they proclaim is “MAGA country!”

Meet the Left-Wing Troll Who Creates Fake News to Expose Conservative 'Stupidity'

It turns out that a lot of the fake news is produced by a Liberal who does it to make people look foolish.
From his home in Portland, Maine, Christopher Blair creates and then shares with the world many of the fake news stories that plague social media sites. The BBC explains how the son of liberal Democrats (who is himself a liberal) began a career creating fake news with titles like "BREAKING: Obama, Soros and the Dems Ordered The Shutdown to Stage A Coup":

I get a lot of this kind of stuff in my email.
No doubt, like me, you have family members and friends who swallow — hook, line, and sinker — articles like the ones Christopher Blair writes. Hopefully, unmasking Blair will help encourage our more gullible friends and family members to do a little research before sharing every anti-Clinton article they see on Facebook.

Christopher Blair is Putin's willing accomplice.

‘Junk News’: Russia Report Done By Anti-Conservative Academics

Sort of what I expected.

A new study has claimed Russia’s online interference tried to aid the conservative movement and Donald Trump. There’s a big problem with that assessment. It comes from a left-wing operation that previously classified more than 11 different conservative outlets as “junk news.” And two of those authors were also involved in this report.

The study was released by the Oxford University Computational Propaganda Project and Graphika. It argued that fake accounts, ads, and tweets “all clearly sought to benefit the Republican Party -- and specifically Donald Trump”

The Oxford University Computational Propaganda Project had attacked several conservative outlets as “junk news” in previous studies. Those targeted outlets include Drudge Report, NewsBusters, CNSNews, MRCTV, Breitbart, the Daily Caller, Free Beacon, LifeNews, National Review, the Federalist, and the Red State. (Three of those are operated by the Media Research Center, which runs NewsBusters.)

The "fake news" MSM and it's supporters in academia strike back.
