Gramsci's Grand Plan

For those who wonder what people are talking about when they refer to Gramscian plans or Gramscian ideas, here's a great explanation.

One of the most interesting aspects of the study of history is that very often men born in the most humble of circumstances nevertheless rise up to affect the course of human history dramatically. They may be men of action or men of thought, yet in either case their activities can father tremendous changes across the years. Antonio Gramsci was both a man of action and thought and, whatever the outcome of the events of the next several decades, he will almost certainly be reckoned by future historians to have been a remarkable figure.

Born in obscurity on the island of Sardinia in 1891, Gramsci would not have been considered a prime candidate to impact significantly the 20th century. Gramsci studied philosophy and history at the University of Turin, and soon became a dedicated Marxist, joining the Italian Socialist Party. Immediately after the First World War, he established his own radical newspaper, The New Order, and shortly afterwards helped in the founding of the Italian Communist Party.

Kwanzaa: A fake holiday created by a black Marxist radical to stick it to The Man

A holiday story: There once was a man named Ron Everett, aka. Doctor Maulana Karenga who during the late 1960s was a commander of a black power movement calling itself United Slaves [now Organization Us] which was a violent rival to the Black Panthers. In the 1970s Karenga served four years in prison for conspiracy and assault in the sadistic torturing of two female followers. An avowed Marxist, he now spends his days, naturally, as a professor and chair of African studies at California State University, Long Beach.

The rather unseemly Karenga’s legacy lives on in the holiday festival our children learn about in school called “Kwanzaa.” But I wonder how many of these children learn that in 1966 Karenga quite simply invented Kwanzaa out of thin air. Billy Hallowell’s informative TheBlaze article laying out the celebration in great detail is an excellent read. I, however, am a touch less deferential given the true motives and meaning behind this contrived holiday’s genesis.

Peruse the Official Kwanzaa website, and it praises the “values of African culture.” But Kwanzaa ceremonies have no African counterparts; they are the contrivance of one man with revolutionary and racist predilections. Some aspects of this faux holiday don’t even make sense. For example, on the day of “muhindi” ears of corn are set aside for each child in the family, but corn is not even indigenous to Africa. Corn was first cultivated by Mexican Indians and brought to Africa by the Portuguese.

There’s a reason a so-called “harvest festival” takes place in the period of December 26th to January 1st. This incongruity springs from Karenga’s real aim which was to make Kwanzaa the anti-Christmas. Said Karenga in a 1978 interview: “I put it around Christmas because I knew that’s when a lot of Bloods would be partying.” That in any of the textbooks? Also, consider these coincidences. The Kwanzaa celebration includes a wine glass that closely resembles a chalice associated with the Last Supper; the seven-stemmed candlestick could easily be mistaken for a Hanukkah menorah.

Like it or not, Kwanzaa’s roots are subtly racist. Karenga is blatantly honest in that he envisioned Kwanzaa as a black alternative to supplant Christmas, which he calls “a white man’s holiday based on a white man’s religion.” (Wrong again Professor: Christianity thrived in North Africa long before it became a force in Western Europe.)

Karenga’s Kwanzaa, the website states, “was created to reaffirm and restore our rootedness [sic] in African culture. It is, therefore, an expression of recovery and reconstruction of African culture which was being conducted in the general context of the Black Liberation Movement of the ’60′s and in the specific context of The Organization Us, the founding organization of Kwanzaa and the authoritative keeper of its tradition.” (Black Liberation Movement, huh? Got it.)

The website further offers that Kwanzaa is “based on the rich, ancient and varied common ground of their Africanness.” I’ll set aside the oddly contradictory statement “varied common ground” and simply present that while this sounds all warm and fuzzy an ugly truth belies this notion of African oneness: Africans have done more than their fair share of brutalizing one another. Nor have they ever had anything close to continental unity on such a vast land mass that stretches from the ports of the Mediterranean, to the rocky shores of the Cape Of Good Hope. As with natives of any continent, Africans have in fact waged bloody and savage war among themselves for centuries, well before the arrival of white colonists or slave traders and long after their last ship sailed. Inter-tribal genocides in our own day have wiped out millions in central Africa and cruel dictatorships sprinkle the continent while psychotic warlords rule with medieval brutality from Somalia to Liberia.

This false image of pan-African identity is evident even in the name of the holiday. The term “kwanzaa” comes from the Swahili “matuda ya kwanza” which means “first fruits of the harvest”…in winterof course. The website explains that in the early days of the holiday (way back in the late 1960s) there were seven children of the Organization Us who each wanted to represent a letter of Kwanza, so what the heck, just add the extra ‘a’ to make it craps. There are no rules when you make up your own holiday. Karenga, an African studies professor remember, calls Swahili, “the most widely spoken African language.” But Swahili is common in only a few countries and they’re all on or near the east coast, whereas most American slaves were snatched from the west and as such Swahili to them would have been as alien a sound as Cantonese. If anything the most common tongue in Africa these days is Arabic. Whatever, professor.

I am well aware of the manic obsession in our public schools with “celebrating diversity” (except where it matters most: diversity of ideas) but at what point does a school system allow the truth to trump political correctness? Perhaps a starting point is to no longer acknowledge a conjured up holiday by a felonious 1960s radical with no roots whatsoever in either the continent or the culture it professes to celebrate. Why legitimize a racist whose real purpose was to stick it to the man by sabotaging Christmas especially—a holiday celebrated on all continents by over billion people of all races—by forwarding a decidedly anti-American (and anti-white) revolutionary statement thinly veiled as a cultural celebration?

The oft-overlooked issue I have with denying school children the true story of Christmas while proffering Kwanzaa stems from my love of history as much as my personal faith. After all, people can hold differing views as to the divinity of Jesus of Nazareth. But no one can deny that he was the most significant figure in Western history whose simple but powerful message of peace on earth and goodwill towards mankind fundamentally changed the world in which we live—and is still shaping the story of humanity 2,000 years after his death.

For our schools to prohibit its students from even commemorating the birth of such a legitimate force while giving a nod to a made-up holiday no older than I am simply because of hypersensitivity to its racial overtone is educational malpractice, not to mention of course the ultimate expression of political correctness gone mad.

On 16 June 1941, as Hitler readied his forces for Operation Barbarossa, Josef Goebbels looked forward to the new order that the Nazis would impose on a conquered Russia. There would be no come-back, he wrote, for capitalists nor priests nor Tsars. Rather, in the place of debased, Jewish Bolshevism, the Wehrmacht would deliver “der echte Sozialismus”: real socialism.

Goebbels never doubted that he was a socialist. He understood Nazism to be a better and more plausible form of socialism than that propagated by Lenin. Instead of spreading itself across different nations, it would operate within the unit of the Volk.

So total is the cultural victory of the modern Left that the merely to recount this fact is jarring. But few at the time would have found it especially contentious. As George Watson put it in The Lost Literature of Socialism:

It is now clear beyond all reasonable doubt that Hitler and his associates believed they were socialists, and that others, including democratic socialists, thought so too.

The clue is in the name. Subsequent generations of Leftists have tried to explain away the awkward nomenclature of the National Socialist German Workers’ Party as either a cynical PR stunt or an embarrassing coincidence. In fact, the name meant what it said.

Hitler told Hermann Rauschning, a Prussian who briefly worked for the Nazis before rejecting them and fleeing the country, that he had admired much of the thinking of the revolutionaries he had known as a young man; but he felt that they had been talkers, not doers. “I have put into practice what these peddlers and pen pushers have timidly begun,” he boasted, adding that “the whole of National Socialism” was “based on Marx”.

The Left, of course, smears the Right with the term Nazi and the "authoritarian" label:

The governing party, he pointed out, was a member of the Socialist International and, again, the give-away was in its name: Institutional Revolutionary Party. The BBC’s response was priceless. Yes, it accepted that the party was socialist, “but what our correspondent was trying to get across was that it is authoritarian”.

In fact, authoritarianism was the common feature of socialists of both National and Leninist varieties, who rushed to stick each other in prison camps or before firing squads. Each faction loathed the other as heretical, but both scorned free-market individualists as beyond redemption. Their battle was all the fiercer, as Hayek pointed out in 1944, because it was a battle between brothers.

Authoritarianism – or, to give it a less loaded name, the belief that state compulsion is justified in pursuit of a higher goal, such as scientific progress or greater equality – was traditionally a characteristic of the social democrats as much as of the revolutionaries.

Obama Shafts Hillary With Amnesty and Ferguson

As Barack Obama invites in five million illegals to scoop up American jobs, and as those normal Americans lucky enough to still have jobs wait in traffic while morons block the freeway because some Swisher Sweets-puffing felon got himself killed, Hillary Clinton’s chances in 2016 plummet. So it turns out that Obama is likely to achieve one great thing as president – he’ll keep Hillary from ever occupying the Oval Office.

It is important to understand that neither the executive amnesty scam nor the bogus outrage over Ferguson actually had anything to with race per se. Obama and his gang are Marxists. This was always about class. The Obama coalition is not the traditional Democrat coalition. It is primarily a class coalition. It is the Democrat Party base and nothing more, made up of rich/academic upper class whites, the unionized government hack sub-class, and lower class welfare recipients. When it won in 2008 and 2012, the coalition added just enough others to push it over the top. But now, those others – primarily middle and working class people employed in the private sector – are fleeing to the GOP. And those were the people Hillary was counting on supply enough votes to win.

But if you are a regular person who works for a living, especially if you don’t live on a coast, Obama’s coalition doesn’t want you. In fact, it hates you. You’re a racist, and you’re greedy because you don’t want to give your hard-earned tax money to Democrat-voting deadbeats, and you are oh-so-uncouth that you probably never even listen to NPR. That leaves you just one potential political home, a home where Hillary does not live. I mean the GOP, not the bachelor pad Bill shares with his bimbos....

While this was great for solidifying the coalition that Obama hopes will keep him a power broker long after he leaves office, it’s an albatross for Hillary. Obama can remain a player with a 35% constituency, but Hillary needs 50% + 1 to win. The Obama coalition/Democrat base has the Chablis-swilling limo libs from Marin County, the AFSCME-dues paying DMV diversity consultants, and the big screen-watching EBT cardholder vote nailed down. Everyone else, not so much anymore. And Obama is clearly fine with that.

What is it with Obama's blind faith in the inevitable march of history?

Barack Obama gave a speech, the thing he does best, with a ridiculous premise embedded therein, something he does almost every time he opens his mouth. Often it’s fields of straw men he’s destroying. This time he’s referring to that inevitable march of history he and his Secretary of State, John Kerry, is fond of invoking.

It goes something like this:

“This is the 21st Century and X is just not done in this century.  So X will inevitably fail.”

The fact that this is the 21st Century was supposed to have stopped Putin from swallowing the Ukraine piece by piece.

In Obama’s last statement in Martha's Vineyard, before heading back to finish his round of golf,  was that

"One thing we can all agree on is that a group like ISIL has no place in the 21st century."

Who is this "We" Mr. Obama?  ISIL disagrees. And, in fact, it’s reported to be attracting thousands of young people who have spent most of their lives in the 21st Century.  They think ISIL is the path to the future and are willing to die for ISIL and their Muslim faith.

He went on to say

“And people like [ISIS] ultimately fail. They fail, because the future is won by those who build and not destroy and the world is shaped by people like Jim Foley, and the overwhelming majority of humanity who are appalled by those who killed him."

Today’s Wall Street Journal notes that

But Foley is dead and his killers won't fail on their own. They will not fail because Barack Obama reached out his hand in peace on Inauguration Day. They will not fail because of a progressive vision that mankind has finally in the 21st century reached some higher level of being. Like every evil in human history, ISIS will stop only when it is forced to stop. This means only when enough of its fanatics have been killed.

Is that reference to the 21st Century a theme that Obama’s speech writers throw in because it polls well. Or is this what the Obama really believes. It would not surprise us because the “March of History™” is a familiar theme in Marxist thought. And versions of Marxism were part of Obama’s formative years before he became President.

Bud Norman comments about the selective outrage of the Left. Hot and bothered about the Israelis defedning their homes against a rain of rockets aimed at their women and children, a ho-hum pass for the Arabs and Islamist thugs offing Christians and each other in far greater numbers. In fact you will have to go to specifically Christian sources to find more than the occasional brief mentions of the "ethnic cleasing" of Christians in the Middle East and Africa. We get the sneaking suspiction that Liberal/Left America really approves of it.

Turning to Obama's White House

The guest list at that fancy White House gathering of African leaders is a similarly curious example of selective outrage. Among those getting the red carpet treatment and presidential promises of massive wealth redistribution are Equatorial Guinea’s Teodoro Oblang Nguema Mbasago, fresh from a killing spree that left all of his prominent political opponents dead, and Gambia’s Yahya Jammeh, who advocates a policy of beheading homosexuals, along with the usual assortment of seedy Afro-Marxist thugs who have made such a mess of post-colonial Africa. These elegantly embossed invitations to the White House were handed out by the same administration that routinely derides its domestic political opponents as extremists bent on dirty air and dirty water, and who are implored in faux-hip-hop fashion to “Just stop hatin’,” and it strikes us as odd. Even the most stubborn American adherents of the millennia-old notions about same sex-same marriage draw the line well short of beheading homosexuals, and thus far even the kookiest musket-weilding and tricorner-hat-wearing “tea party” types haven’t offed anybody.

The benefits of well educated baristas.

The Wall Street Journal has an article bemoaning the well educated barista economy. Of course they don’t put it quite that way in their article, the subhead if which is: A new study offers an unsettling explanation of why young adults have been hit so hard.

But in the spirit of those who hailed the benefits of losing your job. Not only can you get a chance to do your own thing, but according to Nancy Pelosi, those unemployment benefits you get create more jobs.  And if you lost your job becaue of ObamaCare, it's really not a loss, but an "escape." 

With that view in mind, I want to explain why college educated baristas are a net plus for the American people.

Let’s face it, modern college graduates have just left the greatest brainwashing system since the Communists invented the “re-education centers” to set their enemies right. Do you really want those budding neo-Marxists to get on the first rung of the ladder of success?

Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and John Kerry – to say nothing about the lesser lights of the current regime – are the product of the counter-culture of the 1960s academy. Today it’s no longer the counter-culture but the firmly entrenched establishment – the Ruling Class - who will defenestrate you of you step out of line. “You say you believe marriage is between a man and woman? HOMOPHOBE! No job for you!” Use the wrong term-du-jour for someone with a different skin color … RAAAACIST! Mention that the President seems to spend an inordinate amount of time playing golf: RAAAACIST. Wonder why women need their birth control pills provided by the taxpayer? SEXIST!

You can be sure that the current crop of college graduates firmly believe these things. They have internalized them so that they no longer think about them. Or they have learned to mouth the correct phrases, kept their heads down to stay in college or keep a job. Do you really want these brainwashed robots doing anything but serving coffee until the conditioning wears off?
