Liberals In Power vs. Liberals Out of Power

How dare you suggest that we in the freest nation on Earth live in tyranny. How dare you call yourselves patriots and heroes.

I say to you, all of you, ..., there is nothing patriotic about hating your country, or pretending that you can love your country but despise your government. There is nothing heroic about turning your back on America, or ignoring your own responsibilities. If you want to preserve your own freedom, you must stand up for the freedom of others with whom you disagree. But you also must stand up for the rule of law. You cannot have one without the other.

William Jefferson Clinton 1995

"This is not the first time in American history when patriotism has been distorted to deflect criticismand mislead the nation," warned Sen. Kerry, placing his courage in the broaderhistorical context. "No wonder Thomas Jefferson himself said: 'Dissent is the greatest form of patriotism.'

John Forbes Kerry

This is a good “gotcha” for those who are claiming that dissent is the highest form of patriotism. But I see a chilling overtone in Clinton’s speech.

Once the Liberals regain power, all the brave talk about dissent will disappear. Just as the “free speech” movement morphed into the suppression of speech and opinion so common on college campuses now that the radicals have tenure, the words of Bill Clinton will come back and the MSM will be cheering them on.

Even now, before the have captured the Presidency, would-be Stalinist like Henry Waxman are threatening Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and other radio talks show hosts for daring to speak out in opposition to his ideas. And you can be sure that there will be no real opposition to having Conservative voices silenced by the MSM whose idea of two sides of a debate is the Left and the Far Left.
