Say No to Newspaper Bailouts

It was supposed to be a joke, but in Connecticut they stopped laughing. Here's a report by Michelle Malkin:

The Republican governor and the Democratic attorney general of Connecticut went on the record last week in support of government intervention for failing local newspapers. God save us from bipartisanship. Their joint statements pushing a salvage program came in response to news that The New Britain Herald, The Bristol Press and 11 weekly papers across the state face closure. About 100 jobs are at stake. This is bad news, no question. But cause for apocalyptic talk and expansive meddling by politicians? Please.

Perhaps sensing a trend? The Virginian Pilot has stopped looking for a buyer. The Pilot "reports" on itself Sale process for The Virginian-Pilot is put on hold and remains totally incurious and is not about to vigorously investigate itself.

Obligatory VA Pilot disclosure:

Pravda was a beacon of journalistic truth and technical prowess compared with the Virginian Pilot

Back to the usual Pilot spin we have Obama victimized by Bush policies at the Pentagon despite his campaign promises to slash military spending according to "reporter" Dale Eisman:
Seven years of war in Afghanistan and Iraq have so taxed American troops and equipment that the new president has little choice but to find the billions of dollars needed to maintain what's left and replace what's been lost, Finel said.
Oh, you mean THAT war?
