85 percent of Americans say freedom of the press more important than saving struggling newspapers

The Obama FTC disagrees.  We wonder what members of the press think.  Let's see; a government paycheck or no paycheck?  Well, the press has been insulting its readers for decades, perhaps if they were paid by the government they would begin to insult its paymasters.

Nah!  (Slaps own face for stupidity).

UPDATE: From the Washington Times:
As the Obama administration has demonstrated its willingness to ignore negative public opinion in order to expand government involvement in areas such as health care, it is important for Congress to step in and deflate the FTC's latest trial balloon. Government subsidies will destroy, not save, journalism.
The Washington Times, for those who don't know, is a fairly lonely voice of conservative oriented journalism.  And this is an editorial.  the local Pravda, The Virginian Pilot, which has been on the block for years, is probably a different story.  I would like to get their reaction.
