Connie Phillips explains why the poor should buy “…cookies, chips, energy drinks, soft drinks, seafood, or steak” with your money. Oh, wait ....
Connie Phillips, wife of Democrat Sherrod Brown (D- Ohio) is outraged that Christians don’t want the poor to use their welfare money to buy “…cookies, chips, energy drinks, soft drinks, seafood, or steak.” She goes on for another 700 words to accuse Christians of “oppressing the poor.”
I read to the end and was waiting for her defense of “the poor” using your tax dollars and mine to buy junk food and luxury items that are now being priced out of the reach of the non-poor who are supporting the poor. The reason never comes. It’s just one of those things that are so obvious to Liberals that no reason is needed.
Obviously the poor should be able to use your money to buy lobster and steak. Obviously cookies, chips, energy drinks and soft drinks are part of the staples that the poor need to live. To deny them the right to use your money to buy them proves that you are a bad Christian and a hypocrite.
Connie's husband, Sherrod Brown, is best known for accusing President Obama of sexism after Obama suggested that Elizabeth Warren didn’t know what she was talking about in opposing the TPP trade deal.

BRAISED LAMB MEXICAN PIZZA & OCCUPYING THE FUSION MOVEMENT
My favorite part about Obama’s presidency was when he single-handedly ended domestic racismI don’t remember the exact moment racism ended, but it was sometime after Obama’s inauguration, and before Macklemore came out with “Same Love”, which, as we all know, permanently ended homophobia. But before we take a moment to pat ourselves on the back, deserved as it may be, there’s still one group in America that seems to feel they’ve been wronged: the poors. (Honorable mentions include: women, students, veterans, the transgender community, immigrants, political refugees, the mentally handicapped, union workers, Filipino tilt-a-whirl operators, and the Jews).

White House to transform tent to Monet masterpiece for Hollande
It's good to be the king.
Guests will take small trolleys across the South Lawn to the tent, which will be transformed into a spring-like scene inspired by Claude Monet's Water Lilies paintings, with quince branches in full bloom, irises, blue agapanthus and lilies. The White House kept the guest list under wraps, along with who will sit at the head table, but revealed that soul singer Mary J. Blige will perform after the dinner. The first course will feature caviar harvested from Illinois streams, Pennsylvania quail eggs, and 12 varieties of potatoes, the White House said. The salad, served in a terrarium-like bowl, includes herbs from the White House kitchen garden, and honey from the White House beehive.Dry-aged ribeye beef from a farm in Greeley, Colorado, will highlight the main course. For dessert: Hawaiian chocolate-malted ganache, fudge made from Vermont maple syrup, and puffs of cotton candy dusted with orange zest.
The Middle Class was not invited.

Elite of Ancient Pompeii Dined on Sea Urchin, Giraffe
Pompeii was a bustling Roman city that was buried in ash after the volcanic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in A.D. 79. Ellis and his colleagues excavated about 20 shop fronts near one of the once-bustling gates of Pompeii known as the Portia Stabia. The latrines and cesspits behind the food sellers revealed charred food waste from the kitchens, as well as human waste, that dated as far back as the fourth century B.C., when Pompeii was still in an early stage of development. [Preserved Pompeii: Photos Reveal City in Ash]Along with grains, the waste revealed that the commoners of Pompeii ate a simple, but fairly varied, Mediterranean diet that included lentils, olives, nuts and fish, as well as the odd scrap of salted meat.More upscale restaurants could be distinguished by the wider array of delicacies they served."The material from the drains revealed a range and quantity of materials to suggest a rather clear socioeconomic distinction between the activities and consumption habits of each property, which were otherwise indistinguishable hospitality businesses," Ellis said. For instance, the drains at a more central property contained traces of imported foods such as shellfish, sea urchin and even a giraffe's leg."This is thought to be the only giraffe bone ever recorded from an archaeological excavation in Roman Italy," Ellis said. "How part of the animal, butchered, came to be a kitchen scrap in a seemingly standard Pompeian restaurant not only speaks to long-distance trade in exotic and wild animals, but also something of the richness, variety and range of a nonelite diet."
I have read that in medieval times the wealthy ate peacock. Not that peacock tasted good; I'm told it's dry and tough, but it was a pretty bird and so it was served with its plumage on the platter making for a very impressive presentation. So people ate it as a status symbol and pretended to like it.
Why does this remind me of Obama and the press?

Obama economy perfectly illustrated when EBT goes down
Da Tech Guy goes shopping and notices that there are few black shoppers. It turns out that the EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer = aka food stamps) system is down.
A computer glitch in other areas had different results. It showed EBT cards with unlimited balances.I hit a local supermarket to pick up a few things on the way home from work. Right away I noticed something was odd (especially on a Saturday afternoon before a Red Sox playoff game); the place seemed devoid of shoppers. When I got to the deli counter I heard an announcement that explained it; EBT was down, and no EBT cards could be accepted. This was apparently a statewide problem.Right after being told they were out of my wife’s favorite Sara Lee Oven Roasted Turkey breast, I finished my shopping and made note of the number of non-white customers. Normally at this location the majority of the customers would be Spanish, and I counted 3 non-white people, as if the clock had been turned back to the 80′s for the city.EBT of course is not only the province of people of color. As I was leaving a person whose only color was provided by her heavily tattooed body was entering the store. As I was returning my carriage I saw her leaving empty-handed.
Via Natural News
When the federal EBT food stamp system suffered a critical failure on Saturday, local retailers were disconnected from the federal food stamp database that keeps track of how much credit is left on each individual EBT card. Seizing the opportunity provided by the glitch, EBT card holders in Louisiana ransacked their local Wal-Mart stores, stuffing their shopping carts full of groceries and "paying" for them with near-empty EBT cards that essentially had unlimited account balances because all accounting was offline.
When the EBT database came back online and card purchase limits were suddenly restored, EBT card holders abandoned their full carts and just walked away, probably miffed that they missed out on participating in the felony theft of groceries.
Da Tech Guy (Peter Ingeni) went to three separate store to try to get some Sarah lee turkey breast for his wife and made this observation.
I tweeted out my observation which prompted the following reactionI shop in these markets on a regular basis and normally they are totally integrated, but the bottom line is with the EBT card system down I could count the number of non-white customers in three supermarkets on the fingers of one hand & still have fingers left over.Anecdotal evidence or no that’s a startling thing and if I was a liberal I’d be embarrassed by it, but not as embarrassed as I’d be if I was a person of color seeing this and asking myself:Is not being able to buy food for our families without the government’s aid my community’s reward for giving Barack Obama our votes in overwhelming numbers? If you want to be angry at me for saying something that’s true, that’s your call. But I submit and suggest that your anger is better directed at the administration that caused my statement to be true in the first place.

The horrible, terrible, deadly danger of coating yourself in banana pudding
You knew that bananas are radioactive didn't you? The delicious yellow fruit looks so innocent sitting in the produce section of the supermarket ... is full of radioactivity! It's a killer fruit. And that granite countertop that you installed? Radioactive! If you're not careful, if you stacked bananas on your granite countertop you may set off a nuclear explosion that could devastate half your state. That is, if you believe the people who write for the press.
That was the subject of an article in PJ Media by Charlie Martin about this rather sensational story from Natural News:
Japan’s nuclear watchdog has now declared the leak of radioactive water from Fukushima a “state of emergency.” Each day, 300 tons of radioactive water seeps into the ocean, and it’s now clear that TEPCO has engage [sic] in a two-and-a-half-year cover-up of immense magnitude.Just how out of control is the situation at Fukushima? It’s so out of control that TEPCO recently had to admit 10 of its workers were somehow — yeah, see if you can figure this out — sprayed with highly radioactive water while waiting for a bus.“The workers’ exposure above the neck was found to be as much as 10 becquerels per square centimeter,” reports Bloomberg.comHow exactly did highly radioactive water manage to find its way to a bus stop in the first place?
Sounds pretty bad, doesn't it? Will these workers live? Do you know what a Becquerel (Bq) is?
I'll let Charlie Martin explain. He explains it in terms of those radioactive bananas (read the whole thing for the details).
Since you went back and re-read that 2011 post when I linked it (you didn’t? But what if there’s a quiz?) you’ll recall that there is a somewhat-joking unit called the banana equivalent. Bananas, like everything else, are slightly radioactive by nature, and in fact it turns out that since bananas concentrate potassium, they’re a little more radioactive than a lot of other things. So, a banana equivalent amount of radioactivity is something that has about the same number of decays per second as a banana does. So what’s the banana-equivalent in Bq?A normal-sized 150g banana produces about 20 Bq.So, the “highly radioactive water”? It’s roughly equivalent in radiation danger to coating yourself in banana pudding.
As an aside, the Virginian Pilot has been telling us all the horrible, terrible, deadly, disastrous thing that could happen to us if mining for uranium were allowed in Virginia. The next time they write one of their hysterical editorials, I'm going to ask them how many bananas would equal the destructive power of an accident at a uranium mine.

What do food stamps buy?
The U.S. Department of Agriculture, which administers the program, isn't telling.
I have a suspiction that I know why.
Unleash the Waffle Taco!
Taco Bell says it's expanding its small test of waffle tacos, as it prepares to take its breakfast menu national sometime next year. The fast-food chain says the waffle taco, which includes scrambled eggs, sausage and a side of syrup, was the top seller during breakfast hours at the five Southern California restaurants where they were tested earlier this year.
I was under the impression that California was the home of healthy eating.

"Racist" Terms
Glenn Reynolds links to an article about the reason that fried chicken is now a racist term.
WHO DOESN’T LIKE FRIED CHICKEN? Why remarks about race and fried chicken elicit such raw feelings.
The article Culinary Racism gives various explanations going back to slavery.
But there's a problem with this because lots of people like fried chicken: A lot of it is regional: people in the South are perceived to like friend chicken more than their northern counterparts. The South is poorer than the North and chicken is less expensive than beef so the fondness for chicken could be explained by relative wealth. I'm a Dutch immigrant and I love fried chicken; does that make me Black? Should I avoid serving friend chicken at any gathering where Blacks are present? If my Black friends serve friend chicken are they self-hating?
The most obvious explanation derives from the historical fact that fried chicken dishes were popular in slave homes on Southern plantations. In many cases, chickens were the only livestock animals that slaves were permitted to raise on their own, and—given that Scots founded much of the American South—there’s speculation that African-Americans tweaked and perfected their masters’ imported tradition of frying birds.
But there's a problem with this because lots of people like fried chicken: A lot of it is regional: people in the South are perceived to like friend chicken more than their northern counterparts. I'm a Dutch immigrant and I love fried chicken; does that make me Black? Should I avoid serving friend chicken at any gathering where Blacks are present? If my Black friends serve friend chicken are they self-hating?
Let me propose an alternative explanation. The fried chicken=racist equation was created by the very powerful Race Industry. As an illustration of how these associations are created we need only refer to some of the Liberal race hustlers of today who tell us that:
- Lazy=racists
- Colored=racist (ever since the RI invented other terms)
- Negro=racist (ever since the RI invented other terms)
- Niggardly=racist (out of ignorance a perfectly good word was outlawed)
- Boy=racist
- Cotton pickin’=racist
- Urban=racist (this really is a euphemism when used by the "good people")
- “shuck and jive”=racist (except when Chris Matthews or Andrew Coumo uses it)
- “this president”=racist
- Chicago=racist
- References to golf (if played by Obama)=racist
- Whitewash=racist
- Limbaugh=racist (just because)
Before this list gets too long, let’s just go with the Chris Matthews definition of racist to include any criticism of Barack Obama. In fact, it is fair to broaden that to include any criticism of Blacks (can I say that; is that still the accepted term?) as racist. That’s why I was so shocked to see the Miami police department preparing for an "Urban Beach Weekend" without being accused of blatant racism. Now that it’s been pointed out, expect the “Justice Brothers” to hop on a plane and lead the demonstrations.

Denmark reverses itself on "fat tax."
Via the Pedophiles at the BBC.
The Danish government has said it intends to abolish a tax on foods which are high in saturated fats.
The measure, introduced a little over a year ago, was believed to be the world's first so-called "fat tax".
But authorities said the tax had inflated food prices and put Danish jobs at risk.
The Danish tax ministry said it was also cancelling its plans to introduce a tax on sugar, the AFP news agency reports.
The ministry said one of the effects of the fat tax was that some Danes had begun crossing the border into Germany to stock up on food there.
According to the Danish National Health and Medicines Authority, 47% of Danes are overweight and 13% are obese.
The tax was introduced in October 2011, in an attempt to limit the population's intake of fatty foods.
The measure added 16 kroner ($2.70; £1.50) per kilo (2.2lbs) of saturated fats in a product, increasing the price of a 250g pack of butter by 2.20 kroner.

HUNGRY NEW YORKERS EATING OUT OF DUMPSTERS
Big government to the rescue. For some reason, the MSM considers this a big success.
Good going Barry, and you too Bloomie!
Meanwhile the Beautiful Democrats are partying while the poor are dumpster diving. Remember, these are the people who claim to care more than you do for the poor.
It was definitely a scary 48 hours for the inhabitants of New York.
But now that Hurricane Sandy has moved away from the East Coast, it's back to business for most New Yorkers, including Bette Midler.
The veteran actress and singer continued her life as usual and celebrated her yearly extravagant celebrity 'Hulaween' bash on Wednesday night in the storm-struck city.
If you're a student of history this may remind you of French aristocracy before the Revolution. Keep in mind that our King and Queen uh ... President and First Lady spent over 1.4 billion dollars on personal expenses just in the last year of their reign. For comparison, the British spent less than $60 million on their royal family.
Nanny government Getting the Important Things Done
In New York City you are protected from the hazards of 32 oz soft drinks, second hand smoke at the beach and in the park and trans-fats in your food, but the possibility of the tunnels and subways flooding during a storm does not seem to have been a concern of Mayor Bloomberg.
It's not as if the possibility has never been mentioned. Via Meadia
The New York Times notes that scientists and flood experts have been warning about the risks of flooding in New York for years and have suggested everything from levees to floodgates in New York Harbor to minimize potential damage. Yet neither the city nor the state government has taken serious steps to act on these suggestions...
Here in New York we have a very busy government. It’s worried about the kinds of fats we eat and the size of the soft drinks we buy, and there is no shortage of regulations affecting businesses, street vendors, and individuals. But in all this exciting fine tuning, nobody seems to have bothered to think about the much greater task of keeping floodwaters out of the subway system. Admittedly, getting public support and finding the money for flood protection would be hard, but it is exactly that kind of hard job that governments are supposed to do. Leadership is getting the important things done, not looking busy on secondary tasks while the real needs of the city go quietly unmet. The problem with nanny state governance isn’t just that it’s intrusive. It isn’t just that it stifles business with over-regulation, and it isn’t just that it empowers busybodies and costs money. It’s that it distracts government from the really big jobs that it ought to be doing.
The problem is that people in government are NOT the best and the brightest. That's why they always tackle the easy tasks and ignore the hard ones. It really is easier to ban large sodas than to protect the subways and tunnels from flooding. This is especially true in Liberal cities like New York where The People Who Matter would not be caught dead drinking soda pop, in either large containers or small. There is no opportunity for grandstanding in front of a flood gate that may not be used for decades. So the residents of Gotham had a chance to see pictures of flood waters gushing into the subways and trucks submerged at the entrance of the tunnels leading into and out of the island. Safe in Nanny Bloomer's embrace.

Rein in the food police.
Four weeks after the government moved to shut down Amish farmer Dan Allgyer for selling fresh, unpasteurized milk across state lines, angry moms who made up much of his customer base rallied on the Capitol’s grounds Monday to demand that Congress rein in the food police.
Michelle Obama Decides You Child's School Lunch Menu
If the federal government gets its way, critics are warning, school lunches will be more expensive and less appetizing and ultimately will leave school districts footing the bill for costly food going down the garbage disposal.
Under regulations proposed this year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture would have the final say on what students eat. Educators fear the guidelines, trumpeted by first lady Michelle Obama and others as a key to curbing childhood obesity, will take a huge bite out of school budgets while resulting in “healthier” meals that make youngsters turn up their noses.
Shut up and eat your broccoli.
