To Protect Obama From Libya, Media Turns McCain Into Captain Ahab

Dana Bash, Matt Lauer, Soledad O'Brien, Anderson Cooper, Wolf Blitzer, Politico Chuck Todd, Dave Weigel, The New York Times… This is just a short list of mainstream media members who apparently don't want the truth to come out about Libya. No doubt, they would argue against that statement, but how else to explain the crusade they've all joined over the last 24 hours to trash Senator John McCain as a lying, obsessed Captain Ahab still bitter over his 2008 loss to Barack Obama?

Because the media hasn't done so, along with Sens. Lindsey Graham and Kelly Ayotte, McCain is calling for Watergate-style hearings into the White House's dishonest and/or incompetent handling of everything surrounding Libya: the lack and pulling of security in the wake of growing threats, the failure to send reinforcements during the seven-hour attack, and a false two-week narrative spun and sharpened over time by an administration that without any evidence whatsoever blamed the attack on a spontaneous protest.

At least 4 dead after train crashes into trailer during Texas veterans parade

That's just sad.

A freight train slammed into a parade float carrying wounded veterans on Thursday, killing four people and injuring 17 others as the float tried to get through a West Texas railroad crossing on its way to an honorary banquet, authorities said.

The train was sounding its horn and people were jumping off the decorated flatbed truck before the collision around 4:40 p.m. in Midland, according to witnesses and Union Pacific spokesman Tom Lange. A preliminary investigation indicates the crossing gate and lights were working, Lange said, though he didn't know if the train crew saw the float approaching.

Another Obama Victory: Smithfield to Shut Virginia Plant

Smithfield Foods Inc. said Wednesday that it will begin its previously announced shutdown of a Virginia facility that makes hot dogs and deli meat.

The Smithfield, Va.-based company said layoffs will start at the Portsmouth plant in January and it will close at the end of March. The first layoffs at the Smithfield Packing Co. facility will involve about 120 workers, with more than 400 workers affected by the time plant is closed, said Jeff Gough, Smithfield’s senior vice president for human resources. Employees have been offered transfer opportunities.

Portsmouth, the city in which the plant is located, voted for Obama by a ratio of nearly three to one. You can bet that the plant's workers gave Obama a much, much greater margin of their votes.

The Department of Labor has announced that new jobless claims rose by a staggering 78,000 in the first week after the election, reaching a seasonally-adjusted total of 439,000. Over the past year, and in the weeks leading up to the election, jobless claims were said to be declining, dipping as low as 339,000, with the media proclaiming that they had reached the "lowest level in more than four years." Now, suddenly, the news seems far less rosy.

Reporter Details Journalists' Private Anti-Mormon Bigotry

Did I mention that religious bigotry I encounter in my daily life is usually found in the press - and on on the Internet on the Left? Attacks on Christians is the most common but Mormons are fair game.

The press corps following presidential candidate Mitt Romney frequently displayed anti-Mormon bigotry through the election season, according to fellow reporter and BuzzFeed Politics author McKay Coppins.

Coppins, who is also a Mormon, offers several interesting bits of information and even makes Mitt out to be the John Kennedy of Mormonism; like Kennedy did for Catholics, Romney's candidacy brought his religion out from under the shadows of suspicion and into the mainstream in politics.

Most importantly, the piece reveals the stark and casual anti-Mormon bigotry of fellow members of the Old Media establishment.

Coppins recalls that other reporters following Romney constantly sniggered about his "Mormon underwear" and often made jokes about his religion in the privacy of the press plane or on their many bus trips.

I'm not Mormon, but the Mormons I have known are among the nicest, kindest, cleanest living people I know.

On the night of the South Carolina Republican primary in January, I sat near the front of a dark campaign press bus and listened to reporters talk about Mitt Romney's underwear.

Earlier in the day, one of them had happened upon the candidate and his wife doing laundry in the basement of our Columbia, South Carolina, hotel, and a small cluster of colleagues had now gathered to listen to him relate the anecdote, lapping up every mundane detail of this rare interaction with the closed-off couple.

Finally, another reporter interrupted.

"Did you see their underwear?" she asked, grinning mischievously as though she had just said something naughty.

"What do you think it looks like?" inquired another.

"I think you can see pictures online," someone chimed in.

The exchange prompted giggles from the group — some nervous, others indulgent — as I slid down in my seat and pretended to look at my phone, hoping it wouldn't occur to any of them I might be wearing the strange, exotic garment they were all gossiping about. It wasn't that their tone was antagonistic or insensitive; just uncontrollably curious — like virginal adolescents talking about sex during a sleepover. And as a lifelong Mormon, I had grown fairly used to hearing my religion talked about that way.

The press, ever ready to find fault with any politically incorrect phrase made or imagined by others,  considers its perversions to be "the new normal," it's casual bigotry to be fully acceptable.

They manged to pull their candidate over the finish line one last time, and after this bruising battle they people they defeated are disorganized. But one thing this campaign has done is create a network of The Right that is more influential than ever, and more committed than ever. The political operatives for whom campaigns are not about ideas may be talking to each other and to cameras and microphones about how the Right needs to become more like the Left. They are totally missing the point. The future IS about ideology, now more than ever. And the alternative media - the largely volunteer media - is growing in power and reach while the MSM - totally dependent on shrinking revenue for its power - is dying a slow, agonizing death.

That talk of secession is symptomatic of a very deep gulf that this election represents. The Left is not talking about uniting the country. In past elections there has been talk on both sides of uniting to meet the challenges we face.  Not this time.  The first assembly that Obama faced were his partisans, a campaign rally in the White House.  This election was an unarmed civil war and the winner is demanding unconditional surrender. "I won" is not the voice of someone who wants to get along in compromise. It's the phrase of someone who wants his boot on your neck. Liberals often like to compare President Barack Obama to former President Abraham Lincoln. The comparison is usually dismissed as laughably hagiographical, but judging by one unexpected bit of fallout from Tuesday’s election, it could well end up being accurate in just one respect: Like Lincoln, Obama is facing requests by the citizens of numerous states to secede from the union.

However, unlike with Lincoln, these requests are peaceful, and highly unlikely to do anything at all except generate news headlines. A massive number of petitions are currently circulating on Change.org, a website designed to call for action by the federal government or by private institutions on particular causes, calling for particular states to be granted permission to secede.

Nor are they confined to the usual suspects (IE the Southern States). In actuality, the mix of states asking to secede is deeply bipartisan, ranging from the deeply red (Alabama and South Carolina) to the deeply blue (New York) to the swing (Pennsylvania). Nor are the states asking to secede in any way geographically clustered. Northern states (New York), Midwestern states (Michigan), Southern states (Alabama) and Western states (Nevada) have all filed petitions of their own. Most swing states this election cycle, with the exception of Ohio, have a petition of their own, and all of them have at least 1,000 signatures, with even some of the bluest states in the union easily keeping pace with their red counterparts.

So what do Liberals think of this issue? Let’s go to the reliably Liberal Virginian Pilot whose remaining staff is not particularly talented but who can, like victims of Tourette Syndrome, be depended on to tell us what’s on their minds. This was the editorial cartoon they ran in the print version of the paper today.

Now if I thought of my neighbors like that I would welcome their decision to go away and leave me to my moral and intellectual superiority.

It’s cartoons like this that make looking at papers like the Virginian Pilot worthwhile. Quite an insight isn’t it?

‘Destroy the idols,’ Egyptian jihadist calls for removal of Sphinx, Pyramids

An Egyptian jihad leader, with self-professed links to the Taliban, called for the “destruction of the Sphinx and the Giza Pyramids in Egypt,” drawing ties between the Egyptian relics and Buddha statues, local media reported this week.

Murgan Salem al-Gohary, an Islamist leader twice-sentenced under former President Hosni Mubarak for advocating violence, called on Muslims to remove such “idols.”

“All Muslims are charged with applying the teachings of Islam to remove such idols, as we did in Afghanistan when we destroyed the Buddha statues,” he said on Saturday during a television interview on an Egyptian private channel, widely watched by Egyptian and Arab audiences.

“God ordered Prophet Mohammed to destroy idols,” he added. “When I was with the Taliban we destroyed the statue of Buddha, something the government failed to do.”

His comments came a day after thousands of ultraconservative Islamists gathered in Tahrir Square to call for the strict application of Sharia law in the new constitution.

What really triggered the FBI investigation?

However, supervisors soon became concerned that the initial agent might have grown obsessed with the matter, and prohibited him from any role in the investigation, according to the officials.

The FBI officials found that he had sent shirtless pictures of himself to Ms. Kelley, according to the people familiar with the probe.

At this point I don't know of anyone who looks good in this affair, but it's becoming clear that this story has more threads than a ball of twine.  Illicit sex meets Benghazi, secret prisons, dead CIA agents, Jihadis, obsessed shirtless FBI agents and a White House that claims to knows nothing.

The New York Daily News spoke with Broadwell's father, Paul Krantz, who told the paper: “This is about something else entirely, and the truth will come out."

I'm beginning to be afraid that we won't know the truth because the media has become the Obama palace guard.  Can you imagine anyone at MSNBC or in the NY Times willing to investigate if the story leads to what Obama knew and when he knew it?

The Left has been anti-US for a long, long time while the Right has been working tirelessly to shore up the structure of society including clean government and respect for the military and law enforcement.  We may have reached a tipping point where the Right no longer supports the structure that has been occupied by the Left.

In Spain, where unemployment is 25% according to government statistics, people don't show up for job interviews or refuse a job when offered.

George Washington University, ranked #51 in the latest U.S. News college rankings, admitted on Thursday that it has been inflating the percentage of its incoming freshman class ranked in the top 10% of their high school graduating class for at least a decade. Class rank accounts for 6% in the U.S. News rankings methodology. (In 2012, George Washington reported that 78% of its incoming freshmen ranked in the Top 10%; the correct figure was 58%.) Emory and Claremont McKenna announced earlier this year that they supplied incorrect data to U.S. News for many years.

Of course the biggest lie that the inhabitants of academia tell is that graduates are going to get good jobs in management.  All they have to do is pay $25,000 (at the low end) to $60,000 (at the high end) per year for four, five, six or seven years.  This allows professors and administrators to earn quarter-million dollar salaries while teaching useless, ideologically corrupt classes.  A rip-off from beginning to end, as recent graduates who are waiting tables or parking cars while living in their parents basement will testify.  These people are con artists, scammers.   If they were private industry they would be sued for false advertising or prosecuted for fraud.

These are the Drudge headlines, but let's make something clear: Sandy was not a "Superstorm."  It was big but not that violent.  It just happend to hit an area that's not used to hurricanes, even very low level hurricanes and is totally unprepared for it.  Combine that with local, state and federal government officials who did absolutley nothing to prepare for the storm like stockpiling water and gasoline, like preparing the NY subway system for flooding, like failing to prepare the power grid for storm damage, like turning back volunteer crews from out of state because they were not union crews, like FEMA still housing peope in tents in freezing weather.  Read a very good summary HERE. But will the ObamaMedia blame President Golfer like they did Bush after Katrina?  Don't make me laugh.   

Florida officials order partial recount in tight House race between Rep. West and Democratic challenger Murphy

Election officials in St. Lucie County will recount early votes cast in the hotly contested race for Florida's 18th district's House seat between Tea Party favorite Rep. Allen West and his challenger, Democrat Patrick Murphy.

The St. Lucie County Canvassing Board announced late Saturday it had set an “emergency meeting” to start at 7 a.m. Sunday at its headquarters, to “recount all ballots cast during early voting.” The number of early ballots is estimated by officials to be roughly 37,000.

West, who has refused to concede the race, is currently trailing Murphy by 2,442 votes, according to the latest results from Florida Division of Elections. On its website, the agency says West has garnered 164,448 votes to Murphy’s 166,890.

"There are possible irregularities in St. Lucie County," claims Jeffrey Scott Shapiro, a Florida lawyer volunteering for the West campaign who has been quoted on the issue. "On Sunday we'll have a chance to recount the early votes and that's a good start to preserving the integrity of the democratic process."

West's campaign had said earlier Saturday that issues with the voting in St. Lucie County meant the race was still undecided.

"Late on Election Night, Congressman West led by 1,700 votes," West for Congress said in a statement. "Following the St. Lucie County Supervisor of Elections’ decision to recount thousands of early ballots after a technical glitch, the margin shifted by 4,000. In order to ensure that votes were not doubled counted, we have requested that the St. Lucie Supervisor of Elections make public the poll check-in books to ensure the numbers of ballots cast matches the numbers of voters checked-in at the polls."

BBC needs 'radical overhaul'

Denmark reverses itself on "fat tax."

The Danish government has said it intends to abolish a tax on foods which are high in saturated fats.

The measure, introduced a little over a year ago, was believed to be the world's first so-called "fat tax".

But authorities said the tax had inflated food prices and put Danish jobs at risk.

The Danish tax ministry said it was also cancelling its plans to introduce a tax on sugar, the AFP news agency reports.

The ministry said one of the effects of the fat tax was that some Danes had begun crossing the border into Germany to stock up on food there.

According to the Danish National Health and Medicines Authority, 47% of Danes are overweight and 13% are obese.

The tax was introduced in October 2011, in an attempt to limit the population's intake of fatty foods.

The measure added 16 kroner ($2.70; £1.50) per kilo (2.2lbs) of saturated fats in a product, increasing the price of a 250g pack of butter by 2.20 kroner.
