Donald Luzatto is inveighing again.  This time it’s about third party ads.  He’s terribly upset that the Chamber of Commerce is running ads against the Democrat, Tim Kaine, running for the open Senate seat in Virginia.

They're cheesy ads built around a cheap animated train trip through a Virginia that looks nothing like Hampton Roads, but for pure bald partisan hackery, they're undeniably effective. Kaine is, in the Chamber's crude iconography, a tax-raising, health-care-reform supporting, Obama-loving child of Satan.

Like the bootlegger denouncing the “demon rum” Donny  - and the whole MSM establishment – is losing its former unchallenged ability to lie about politics and doesn’t like it one bit.  The MSM taught the rest of us everything we know about crucifying the opposition with smears and innuendo.  They just didn’t know that they were giving their readers a tutorial on the subject. 

Need a refresher course?  Walk with me back in time not too long ago when they crucified former Governor and Senator George Allen as a racist because of a comment he made to an opposition researcher who was stalking his campaign.

Some folks, like Reid, speculate that Romney managed to pay zippo in taxes for multiple years - not exactly the sort of business prowess admired by most Americans.

Other folks wonder if Romney has had more cash stashed in sunny tax havens such as the Cayman Islands than already revealed.

I suspect that it's much more mundane than tax avoidance. If I were in Reno, I'd wager that Romney is hiding some really embarrassing business investments and charitable contributions.

Maybe he sank millions in a failed start-up company - say, "Seamus to the Wind" - to make solar-powered rooftop dog carriers for cross-country trips. Maybe R&D blew the investment on windshield wipers, and Romney is afraid of seeing all that in a campaign ad.

Or what if Romney donated money to Habitat for Your Vanity, a group that helps Americans build their very own multi-story car elevators?

See, this is why we should leave the political commentary to the professionals in the MSM, they’re so much more mature about it.  They don’t go in for “cheesy” and “cheap.”  These inhabitants of the house of ill repute would rather not have all that competition.

There is a virtual epidemic false hate-crime accusations. But for some reason, when the next accusation surfaces, the same shills buy it. It's indelibly imprinted in the brains of the Left that gays, blacks and other Liberal "pets" are always and everywhere under assault. But note who actually does the assaulting.

Did Obama kill Brian Terry?

Using the logic of the Obama campaign accusing Romney of the death by cancer of Joe Soptic’s wife, we can with much greater certainty say that Obama killed Brian Terry.

Joe Soptic’s wife died of cancer seven years after Romney left Bain Capital, five years after his plant closed, four years after his wife lost her health insurance because she left the job that gave her health insurance, and also five years after he was offered a buy-out. 

So if this makes Romney responsible for Soptic’s wife’s death, there is a much more direct line to Obama and the death of border agent Brian Terry.  The Obama Administration shipped weapons to violent Mexican drug cartels via Fast and Furious.  Those weapons were used to kill Brian Terry.  Ergo, Barack Hussein Obama killed Brian Terry. 

Simple, direct responsibility for Brain Terry’s death, and the death of over three hundred Mexicans  including a plot to kill the police chief of Tijuana, lands right on Obama’s desk.  Someone should make an ad.

In The Great Recession: Market Failure or Policy Failure, Hetzel pins the blame squarely on the Federal Reserve and Team Bernanke.

Oh, the downturn first started with “correction of an excess in the housing stock and a sharp increase in energy prices” — the housing bust and the oil shock. Indeed, those two things were enough, in Hetzel’s view, to cause a “moderate recession” beginning in December 2007.

But only a moderate one. It was the Fed’s monetary policy miscues after the downturn began that turned a run-of-the-mill downturn into a once-in-a century disaster. Hetzel:

A moderate recession became a major recession in summer 2008 when the [Federal Open Market Committee] ceased lowering the federal funds rate while the economy deteriorated. The central empirical fact of the 2008-2009 recession is that the severe declines in output that in appeared in the [second quarter of 2008 and the first quarter of 2009] … had already been locked in by summer 2008.

The right policies mean a lot.

Doesn’t Obama aide David Plouffe’s $100,000 speaking gig stink, even without the Iran connection of the firm that paid him? a) It’s just too much money.** I’ve seen Plouffe talk. He’s a smart guy. But he’s not a $100,000 speaker, or even a $30,000 speaker. He’s not Colin Powell, or Bill Clinton, or Beyonce. What did he think his benefactors–a telecommunications firm called MTN Group–thought they were getting for their 100Gs? Just a short talk (on “digital communications”)? There is some kind of bonus there for Plouffe. What was it for?; b) Plouffe was incoming, not outgoing–he joined the White House staff a few weeks later. It’s hard to believe MTN didn’t entertain the idea that it was making a strategic investment in a powerful new U.S. official; c) Maybe Plouffe had no intention of doing anything for MTN, and if they were stupid enough to pay him that much money for a generic talk … . In other words, he was shamelessly exploiting them. That might be something to laugh about at $10,000 or $20,000. It’s kind of disgusting at $100,000. ….

P.S.: Why do I suspect that Plouffe (like Colin Powell) is a good source–and that the reporters who use him will protect him if they can? … Also, journalists are on the same buckraking gravy train as Plouffe was, of course. . . . Best not to make a fuss and draw attention to this little secret. It’s the only way D.C. journalists can keep up with D.C. lawyers.

Emails The Daily Caller obtained and first published on Tuesday show senior White House and Treasury officials were behind the termination of pensions for 20,000 non-union Delphi salaried retirees.

Those emails show that the Treasury Department, led by Geithner, was the driving force behind terminating those pensions, a move made in 2009 while the Obama administration implemented its auto bailout plan. The emails contradict sworn testimony in which several Obama administration figures have consistently claimed that the decision to terminate the pensions came from the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC). The PBGC is a federal government agency that handles private-sector pension benefits issues. Its charter calls for independent representation of pension beneficiaries’ interests.

What’s the difference between a Conservative Republican and a Moderate Republican?  Via Central Standard Times - Remaking the GOP - here’s as good a definition as I have yet run across.

In recent years the difference between a moderate Republican and a conservative one was defined in Kansas by the social issues, with the former taking a far more permissive stand than the latter on abortion and the currently respectable vices, but this year the most important distinction is about economics. The moderates are fond of an economic development policy heavy on tax abatements, subsidies, public-private partnerships, and similar crony capitalist schemes, while the conservatives want to cut taxes for everybody, eliminate any regulation that isn’t absolutely necessary, slash the state budget down to the barest essentials, and let the marketplace rather than the regulatory agencies pick the winners and losers.

In the past, politicians running for office from city council to President have always promised to spend more money on schools, more money for roads, more money for this and more money for that.  Do you feel just a hint of a breeze that times may be changing, that there’s a shift of emphasis beginning to be felt because the “more money for everything” isn’t showing results after decades of being tried with nothing to show for it?    

The conservatives accuse their rivals of being little better than Democrats, a most damning slur ‘round here, while the moderates have sought to portray their opponents of wanting to do nothing at all, as if that were a bad thing.

We think the conservatives have the stronger argument, and should go a long way to reforming the state’s Republican party in their image. We attribute the moderates’ long domination of the state in large part to the fact that somebody who wants to do things with government is more likely to run for office than someone who wants to stop it from doing things, but this year the need for governmental restraint is so dire that the conservatives have been able to run a fairly strong if somewhat inexperienced and unpolished slate of candidates.

Romney will win the upcoming Presidential election not so much because of what he promises to do, but because of what he promises to undo.  While pundits say that the election is about the economy and jobs, that’s only tangentially correct.  Obama has been a miserable failure on both jobs and the economy, not because he did too little but because he did too much, virtually all of it counterproductive.   The “stimulus” that didn’t stimulate, the “shovel ready jobs” program that created no jobs, the ObamaCare Program that was supposed to be not just health insurance for everyone but the fix for the economy, remember?  The EPA programs that are destroying the nation’s electrical power system, the drilling ban that’s stymied off-shore oil exploration, blocking the Keystone pipeline, wasting billions on Green Crony Capitalism.  And let’s not forget Cash for Clunkers and Obama’s failed housing policies. 

Romney feels he has to tell us that he has a plan.  The truth is that Romney’s plan, if he has one, should be to dismantle the mess that Obama has made and let Americans free to rebuild the rubble that Obama left in his wake.  America’s strength has never been its government but its people, free to use their ingenuity to create and build the greatest nation the world has ever seen. 

I don’t know the shape of the future, but of this I’m certain: it is not and never will be the vision of a government bureaucrat imagining that she has the wisdom to guide the nation.  Those little would-be dictators need to be reminded that they work at our pleasure.  Decimation would be a good start.

Activists remove the chief of police and either disarm local police and county sheriff departments or discourage them from interfering. In truth, this is hardly necessary. Many law enforcement officials already are sympathetic to the tea party’s agenda, know many of the people involved, and have made clear they will not challenge the takeover. The militia members are organized and have a relatively well thought-out plan of action.

Is Social Security Still A Good Deal For Workers?

Like a lot of government programs, when the inevitable failure occurs the results are catastrophic.

Even the government controlled press is beginning to notice:

If you retired in 1960, you could expect to get back seven times more in benefits than you paid in Social Security taxes, and more if you were a low-income worker, as long you made it to age 78 for men and 81 for women.

As recently as 1985, workers at every income level could retire and expect to get more in benefits than they paid in Social Security taxes, though they didn't do quite as well as their parents and grandparents.

Not anymore.

A married couple retiring last year after both spouses earned average lifetime wages paid about $598,000 in Social Security taxes during their careers. They can expect to collect about $556,000 in benefits, if the man lives to 82 and the woman lives to 85, according to a 2011 study by the Urban Institute, a Washington think tank.

Of course, the AARP is still shilling for the government.   Every time that gang of looters sends me an application I use their prepaid envelope to send back a "hell no."  I just joined Generation America just to support them as an alternative to the AARP.

There's an old joke about a boy who complains to his mother that his little sister keeps pulling his hair.

There's a lesson for Republicans in that old joke, if they're smart enough to absorb it.

Here are a few for starters:

• Restore the 20 percent excise tax on motion picture theater gross revenues (and end the accounting practices that allow movies that make their producers and actors wealthy while showing a "loss" for tax purposes). 
• Require foundations to spend at least 10 percent of their endowment each year, ending the ability of Leftist administrators to influence the culture tax free forever.
• Limits on the charitable deductions. to a $50 million lifetime limit and a $5 million annual limit. Why should fat cats like Warren Buffett and Bill Gates be able to get millions in tax deductions that average Americans can't?
• Capping the mortgage interest deduction to houses worth over $250,000.  Hit residents of big cities like San Francisco and New York harder?  That's not a bug, it's a feature.

Those are only a few of the suggestion made by mild mannered law professor Glenn Reynolds.

What’s developing is a replay of Occupy Wall Street, this time with more homosexuals.  The press loved OWS because it was their version of the Tea Party.  They promoted it, interviewed it, and told us how great this movement was.  And then people saw the pictures and read about the crimes, the rapes and the degradation; not in the MSM (the press shields the depravity of its pets from public view) but via the Internet. 

Like the OWS campers, these gays are deluded by the press in believing that they have the country behind them.  It’s the MSM delusion that I have written about before. The OWS, and now the homosexual community are invited to over-reach because they read the newspaper reports and are  fooled into thinking that they are part of a mass movement.  It’s easy when you read the Virginian Pilot and are told by the reporters and editors that there was a “public backlash” against Dan Cathy’s remarks about traditional marriage.  If there’s a public backlash against the affirmation of traditional marriage that must mean the public is on the side of same-sex marriage.  And if you and a bunch of your fellow homosexual men encounter an elderly black man reading a Bible, what is more natural than to taunt him – on camera – knowing that the public was behind you?  Just like Adam Smith just knew that verbally assaulting a young woman serving food in a Chick-fil-A would get him rounds of praise.  He believe it so much that he made a video of himself doing it.  And where did he get the idea that people would support his action?  Why in the same medium that told him about the “public backlash” against traditional marriage.

James Lileks eviscerates David Frum who’s telling us that government officials telling a private citizens that he can’t open a business because of his personal beliefs which happen to be shared by most people in the world, is not like Fascism at all.

No, of course not. It’s them Jeebus people getting all thin-skinned again. He notes some commentators who ascribed the attack on CFA a slam against Christianity - don't know how they get that idea (warning on that link; naughty lingo) then screws in his monocle to regard it all with a sigh of disdain:

Remember how the last housing crisis started. The one from which we still have not recovered?  The one that almost destroyed America’s economy?  Failing to wipe us out the first time, the Left is going to do it again.  Same play, different players.

Standing in for the Community Reinvestment Act (which forced banks to lend to people who could not afford a mortgage), the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau is going to force banks to lend to people who cannot afford a mortgage AS LONG AS THEY ARE BLACK OR BROWN.   According to Thomas Perez, the Justice Department honcho in charge of this campaign, banks refusal to lend money to people of color who can’t pay it back is like burning a cross on their lawn.

To make sure that the banks don’t try the disreputable trick of claiming that the people of color who can’t afford a mortgage have demonstrated that they don’t pay their bills,  the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau is going to be regulating the credit rating agencies.  They have determined that it’s going to be government policy to have one rating system for whites and another for blacks and browns.  You can bet the ranch that rating agencies will suddenly find that being behind on your car payment, your credit card payment, your electric bill, and your rent payment makes you a good credit risk if your skin is the right color.

That’s a quick summary of And You Thought the Housing CrisisWas Over! By William Tucker.  His concern is that an economy already weakened by the first housing crisis and a government that is hostile to private industry will not survive another attack by the Left.  “I think what we are witnessing is the looting of America on behalf of minorities in a way that better end soon or we are going to bring the whole system down upon our heads.”  I think his fear is well-placed.

Hating on Christians.

America’s newsrooms are hating on Christians. How else would you describe the media firestorm that occurred when the President of Chick-fil-A, Dan Cathy, declared his Christian faith and was widely denounced for it - by the media?  It was the media that went to homosexual organizations agitating for same-sex marriage to get their quotes denouncing Mr. Cathy.  It was the media that decided that the conventional Christian belief that marriage is between a man and a woman is so outrageous that to utter it in public is grounds for endless newspaper articles and editorials.   

But compare and contrast: Christianity and …. Oh, let’s say Islam.  The media tells us that Islam is the “religion of peace.”  That practitioners of Islam are just like you and me and any utterance to the contrary is hate speech.  So what is the Muslim position on same sex marriage?  Do you even have to ask when the Muslim position on homosexuality is death?  The only argument is whether death should be by having a wall dropped on them, by being thrown off of a high building or the ever-popular hanging.  Have a leading Muslim cleric denounce homosexuality and if it shows up in the media at all, the media doesn’t bother to get quotes from homosexual activists denouncing traditional Muslim faith … and practice.    

It’s not as if Islam is hiding its faith or if the followers of the Prophet are shy about committing violent acts to enforce their belief. 

The media are the homosexual community’s cheerleaders.  This is an indisputable fact.  Since Muslims are much, much, much more unforgiving of homosexuals than Christians, what is the reason for the double standard?  Is it simply another example of political correctness?  Is it just anti-Christian bigotry?  Is it a way of showing contempt for the broad middle of the country that does not share the Liberal views of the newsroom?  Is it cowardice, knowing that Christians demonstrate by buying a chicken sandwich but Muslims demonstrate cutting your throat?  Is it the belief that 1.5 billion followers of Islam don’t mean anything? 

It’s probably a combination of all of these.  And it’s not going to change while there is a separate archipelago we can refer to as the media.  Thankfully, the islands in that archipelago are slowly sliding beneath the waves as technology is making them irrelevant.  Faster please.

Simple: the BLS "added" 377K jobs for seasonal purposes. This was the largest seasonal addition in the past decade for a July NFP print in the past decade, possibly ever, as the first chart below shows. But wait, there's more: the Birth Death adjustment, which adds to the NSA Print to get to the final number, was +52k. How does this compare to July 2011? That's right, the BLS assumed 429,000 new jobs were created  ... somewhere.

This won't be the last time we will see improbably "adjustments" to the jobs number between now and the election.

This is what religious Christians have to put up with day after day. In our newspapers, on TV, in the Universities. See how proud he is to berate a young girl who is helpless when he attacks her.   Note how she retains her composure all during his verbal abuse.

A commenter asks: What kind of wretched scum picks on a defenseless, pleasant and hard working young girl. The kind of scum who works in an environment in which this kind of action is encouraged. You know the venues. It's product is delivered to your door in the morning. They are "teaching" your young. They earn millions in the entertainment industry.

This guy was so proud of himself he actually posted this video, then deleted it when he got some negative feedback.  But you have to know that he believed that his behavior was admirable.  And it is certain that his friends and acquaintances, the things he reads and watches reinforced  that belief.

Note one other thing: how he wants the server to know that he is NOT homosexual.  "Not that there's anything wrong with that."  Makes you wonder what his sexual issues are.

This guy is a jerk.  The issue that people in this country face is his "support system" that surrounded him and surrounds us like the LA smog of a few decades ago.  It's time to clean up the intellectual environment that allows this kind of behaviour to manifest itself.

CFA Appreciation Day – The Triumph of the Ordinary

The Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day yesterday was historic. It was historic because it marks a new method of mass protest. I even hesitate to use the word ‘protest’ because it wasn’t a protest. There wasn’t any anger. There wasn’t any hate. There wasn’t any bullying. There were no unwashed crowds of unhappy people holding a sit in and causing other people stress, inconvenience and expense. There were no protest signs, no marches, no noise makers and attention grabbers. There were no revolutionary slogans, no clenched fists, no class warfare, no sullen adolescents in a stroppy mood....

Yesterday’s Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day was the sort of ‘revolt’ this country needs, but it was even better than the non violent revolutions and peaceful protests which have changed the world because it was so ordinary. It was just plain, ordinary Americans getting in their cars and doing a plain, ordinary American thing: going out for lunch to a fast food joint. It was just plain, ordinary Americans doing something plain and ordinary, but positive and joyful and good. In buying an ordinary tasty chicken sandwich at their corner fast food emporium ordinary Americans were expressing the wish to be left alone to be ordinary Americans.

There were no protest signs (except from a few glum pro-gays who said we were eating ‘hate’ sandwiches) There were no noisy, angry scenes. Folks in the drive through lines did not honk their horns or proclaim their Christianity with bullhorns. There were no statements against homosexuals or homosexuality. (Indeed, the only statement put out by Chick-Fil-A affirmed their commitment to serve and employ all people equally without notice of race, gender, age or sexual orientation.) The brilliance of the event that it used the network of a nationwide fast food chain as the foundation for a visible, peaceful, creative nationwide statement.

There was no bullying, no hateful anti-homosexual loud mouthed preachers. This grace, patience gentleness and community good humor contrasted with the ugly and spiteful comments from the ‘other side’. Nobody wished their enemies to get cancer the way ‘comedian’ Roseanne Barr proclaimed. Nobody was using back room political and financial pressure to bully the majority of Americans the way mayors of Boston, DC and Chicago were doing. For all the talk of the traditional marriage supporters being full of hate, there was not hatred apparent. It was just ordinary suburban Americans sticking up for their way of life by buying a chicken sandwich with their friends and neighbors. These were not scary people like the folks from Westboro Baptist who tote guns and hate homos. They were the folks next door.d

This is the part that the editorial writers don’t understand. And unless they have an epiphany or leave the newsroom they will never understand. They are so sure of their moral superiority, even if that morality is new minted, they imagine all those people who bought a chicken sandwich yesterday are bigots. The people they have verbally pushed and prodded, insulted and denounced, into whose chests they have pushed their ink-stained fingers, who they feel free to bully because they were hired by billionaire moguls who have handed them a bullhorn. These people who were buying a piece of chicken on a bun were telling them to shove it. Very politely.

Who is investigating this blog?

Most people go to a blog to view a particular story.  With the exception of aggregators like DRUDGE or Glenn Reynolds INSTAPUNDIT, the ratio of visits and page views is typically 1 to a little over 1.  In the last day that ratio has been 1 to 10.  In other words each visitor is looking at 10 stories.

Now, I am flattered that my little blog has gotten so much interest that everyone who visits here wants to read the whole thing.  But I have the feeling that I have pissed someone off.  I have not been kind to people who are accustomed to publishing their opinions in a medium that’s mostly one-way: from them to you.  So don’t be surprised if the Empire decides to strike back.

And don’t be surprised if there’s some blowback.  Some people may buy ink by the barrel, but pixels are surprisingly cheap.

Michael Moore: 'I Wouldn't Say I Support' Obama...

The Virginian Pilot tries to frame the chicken war. Fails.

They had to cover the story. It was a national phenomenon. But notice how they tried to frame the issue. Writer Carolyn Shapiro puts it this way:

Mike Huckabee, the ex-governor of Arkansas and former Republican presidential candidate, had called for a national Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day to respond to public backlash against its president's recent remarks opposing gay marriage.

See what Shapiro did here? “Public backlash?” That’s like reporting: "September 1939, Poland attacks Germany, brave Germans fight back."  The truth is that there was no backlash by the public to Dan Cathy’s comments. Few people even read them when he made them, and the vast majority of those who heard about them agreed with him.

The truth is that elements of the militant homosexual movement have been gunning for Chick-fil-A because the family that runs it are avowed Christians who believe in traditional Christianity. The militant homosexuals were the ones who decided to make the case that traditional Christians were evil homophobes worshipping, in the immortal worlds of Daryl Lease (editorial writer for the Virginian Pilot) a God that’s “mean and nasty.”

But in a country where traditional marriage is the norm, where heterosexuality is the norm, the militant homosexuals over-reached because a few politicians read the newspaper reports, were misled into thinking that this was a mass movement and decided that the way to gain votes was to ban Chick-fil-A. That’s the problem when you live in the MSM echo chamber. You lose track of reality. Bob Owens said it well,

“The greatest trick that Hollywood, the lying liberal media and the Democrat Party was able to conjure was the illusion of their power and our isolation.”

But today there are literally millions of ways that people share their views, and we are not isolated as we were in the era of 3 TV networks and one dominant paper.   Owens again.

Clearly, this is more than a “buycott” over gay marriage. If the smattered of people I’ve talked to are representative, homosexuality is a side issue.

This strikes a much deeper, more foundational chord.

The massive crowd reaction locally and nationwide are driven by a loathing of arrogant politicians like those in Boston, New York, Chicago and San Francisco who feel they have the power and the authority to tell a businessman like Dan Cathy what personal opinions he can and cannot hold if he wants to do business in “their” towns.

They trampled on his religious beliefs. They trampled on his freedom of speech. They attempted to deny him and his franchisees the rights to start small businesses, merely because a free American dared to share what he believed….

We have over the past decades been slouching towards a crisis point in this nation. I’ll leave it for future historians to find fault and place the blame, but the momentum towards disintegration has been apparent and accelerating for some time.

I smirk, thinking about those that are reading this incredulously, thinking, “is this rube trying to tell us that we’re going to launch a civil war over chicken?!?! What a dunce!”

They are capable of only seeing isolated events and individual threads, not the tapestry of tyranny that has turned a simple protest buying of chicken sandwiches and waffle fries into a fed-up Republic’s sudden self-awareness.

The greatest trick that Hollywood, the lying liberal media and the Democrat Party was able to conjure was the illusion of their power and our isolation. As tens, perhaps hundreds of thousands of Americans are realizing in a simple act of conscious commerce today and this evening, we are legion. There are far more of us than there are of them, and in that realization, our power grows, and our desire to give up even a fraction more of our rights, shrinks.

I can see the reaction in the Pilot’s editorial offices now. “Didn’t we denounce the mayors for their violation of the first amendment?” Yeah, Homer, you did. But you first stoked the fires of bigotry and hate for people who are Christians and believe in traditional values. You first decided that thousands of years of history and tradition were going to be consigned to the “dustbin of history” – as another Soviet dictator famously said of the US.  You first called us names and derided our faith.  You demanded that we think like you, believe like you, agree with you or ... SHUT UP! 

You want a culture war? We’ll give you a culture war. And wars start in the unlikeliest places.

Why would Romney have a statement for the perpetually outraged Palestinians? How about this: “lighten up, Frances.”


Those weren’t serious questions - those were journolisting media jackals heckling the big bad Republican, Occupy style. It wasn’t long ago that occupiers were hounding the Republican candidates at their events throughout the primaries… They shouted similarly obtuse questions and slogans at the candidates… Similar tactics. Similar goals. The only thing missing, here, was a mic check.

Churchill bust debacle: ‘amateurish’ Obama White House remains firmly in denial over snub to Britain

Team Obama tries to peddle the story that the Churchill bust was on loan and the when Obama came into office the most natural thing was to give it back.  Of course they first lied about giving it back at all. 

Once they admitted their first lie, here’s how the Obama Press secretary put it:

Uh – as the White House curator has previously explained and I believe as we’ve explained on the end of the day on Friday – uh – the bust was loaned to President Bush by the British government. Uh – as is customary at the conclusion of President Bush’s term and before President Obama entered the Oval Office – uh – the bust was returned to the British Embassy.

Barack Obama has sent Sir Winston Churchill packing and pulse rates soaring among anxious British diplomats. A bust of the former prime minister once voted the greatest Briton in history, which was loaned to George W Bush from the Government's art collection after the September 11 attacks, has now been formally handed back. The bronze by Sir Jacob Epstein, worth hundreds of thousands of pounds if it were ever sold on the open market, enjoyed pride of place in the Oval Office during President Bush's tenure. But when British officials offered to let Mr. Obama to hang onto the bust for a further four years, the White House said: "Thanks, but no thanks."

Islamists in North Mali Stone Couple to Death

BAMAKO, Mali — Islamists in control of a town in northern Mali stoned a couple to death after accusing them of having children outside of marriage, a local official who was one of several hundred witnesses to the killings said Monday.

The official said the bearded Islamists, armed with Kalashnikov rifles, brought the couple into the center of the town of Aguelhok from about 12 miles away in the countryside. The young man and woman were forced into holes about four feet deep, with their heads protruding, and then stoned to death at about 5 a.m. Sunday, the official said.

“They put them into the holes, and then they started throwing big rocks, until they were dead,” the official said, speaking by satellite phone from the remote desert town near the Algerian border.

“It was horrible,” he said, noting that the woman had moaned and cried out and that her partner had yelled something indistinct during the attack. “It was inhuman. They killed them like they were animals.”

Cruz beats Dewhurst in Texas to be the Republican nominee for Senate. Tea Party scores again.

Texas' drift toward the Tea Party brand of GOP conservatism continued Tuesday when lawyer Ted Cruz scored a surprisingly easy win over David Dewhurst in the Republican primary runoff for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Kay Bailey Hutchison.

Cruz once was considered a long shot to take down well-heeled Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst – the favorite of the party establishment and Hutchison's heir apparent. But he steadily gained in the polls during their bare-knuckles campaign brawl, and his lead opened up as soon as the earliest returns were posted. By 8:30 p.m. the Associated Press had named Cruz the winner, and within an hour Dewhurst called Cruz to concede...

Cruz said his win suggests "a great awakening" that is taking place across the country.

"Millions of Texans, millions of Americans are rising up to reclaim our country, to defend liberty and defend the Constitution," he said.

It wan't even close.

Romney has a 20-point advantage among white voters.

Obama built that.

He's not just abandoning white voters, he's sniping at them from the woods.
