The Israeli Bombing in Syria

The American media has been virtually silent about the Israeli bombing of a military site in Syria. Given the tensions in that region, this is an important event. Some believe it involves the destruction of nuclear components. But whatever the raid involved, it’s important. And it shows that the media, when it does not have a meme is virtually silent on issues of global importance.

From Tigerhawk:
The Times of London reported this morning that the Israeli "incursion" into Syrian airspace a few days back destroyed, or was intended to destroy, nuclear material probably supplied by the North Koreans. Iran is probably involved as well, since Mahmoud Ahmadinejad sent one of his nephews to inspect the damage.

From Powerline:
Bill Katz notes the absence of major interest in the raid by the American media and wonders why. "Could it be that they choke over any notion that the Bush administration's concern over WMD might be justified?"

UPDATE: The New York Sun comments on the raid in its September 12 editorial. The Sun concludes: "Things are now in motion in a war that is larger than the one about which the Democrats are caviling." And Carl in Jerusalem comments here.

From Little Green Footballs:
Did Israel's Syrian Airstrike Target Nuclear Cache?

I’ve been getting a lot of email about this story in the Times Online: Israelis ‘blew apart Syrian nuclear cache’.

There’s a lot of speculation here and not many facts, but we actually beat the Times Online by 5 days; we were speculating about this last week, based on a tossed-off sentence in a New York Times article on the airstrike.

There's interesting stuff on the topic here. The site is annoyingly slow to load.
