Meet the privileged Obama-supporting white kids who perpetrated cruel Oberlin race hoax

One of the two students removed from Oberlin College earlier this year for allegedly circulating virulently racist, anti-Jewish and anti-gay messages around campus is an ardent leftist and committed supporter of President Barack Obama, The Daily Caller News Foundation has learned.

Dylan Bleier, one of the two students, organized a voter registration drive on behalf of Obama before the 2008 election. That voter drive is still listed on the website for Organizing for Action, the non-profit group whose mission is to advance Obama’s agenda.

The Oberlin Police Department identified Bleier and his partner in the spree, Matt Alden, as two of the principal architects of a month-long spate of racist, anti-Jewish and anti-gay messages at the small, private campus.

Bleier also describes himself on Twitter as an “atheist/pacifist/environmentalist/libertarian socialist/consequentialist.”

The progressive school canceled all classes for a day in a mad scramble to address the alleged hate-related incidents the campus. The saga culminated in a report of a person wearing a hood and robe resembling a KKK outfit near the Afrikan Heritage House, according to Oberlin’s president Marvin Krislov in a letter also signed by three deans.

You can be sure that the faculty and students of Oberlin were quivering with righteous moral fervor for being given the opportunity to fight racism, sexism, anti-Semitism and homophobia in the bright light of day and with the approval of all right-thinking people. They were just "this close" to giving the hoaxers an award for giving them an opportunity to strut their stuff before the last vestiges of reason intervened and they decide on expulsion after all.

Duck Dynasty Star’s Passionate Anti-Abortion Speech

It’s not possible to get the MSM to report honestly on black-on-white crime.

Remember the Zimmerman trial? You know, the one where the media convicted George Zimmerman, whose race was the hitherto unknown “white-Hispanic,” with murdering the angelic Trayvon Martin, the little boy who never had his picture taken from age 13 through 17? According to the press, Whites (and white-Hispanics) were gunning down little black children right, left and center in an orgy of violence and getting away with it. It was an epidemic, a race war, the way things typically happened, an example of White Privilege.

In the actual court, the truth was allowed to peek out from under the covers and Zimmerman was acquitted and freed. Perhaps the fact that he was in danger of being beaten to death by the angelic Trayvon had something to do with it.

Turn with me now to the gang initiation of some Black teens and a wanna-be white gang banger who decide it would be great fun, and relieve the boredom of summer to kill a young white man out jogging. The MSM have observed their usual rules and either left out the racial identifications or ignored the story altogether. When I first heard of the murder and found the racial identification of the killers absent, I rather suspected why. You can win a lot of bets if you wager that if a politician is caught in wrongdoing and his party is not mentioned near the beginning of the story he’s a Democrat and if criminal’s race is not mentioned, he’s Black. I’m fairly confident that if it’s not part of the MSM’s stylebook, it’s so ingrained in that culture that it’s not neccessary.

Bud Norman on A murder in Oklahoma.  He notes that DRUDGE is not at all shy about pointing out black-on-white crime and black-on-black crime, another reason he's hated by the MSM.

Chris Lane shooting was 'gang initiation'...

Norman:
This reaction was quite predictable in the wake of months of relentless coverage of the trial of George Zimmerman for shooting Tryon Martin in far away in Florida, which was widely portrayed in the media and by prominent politicians as a typical case of a racist white man gunning down an unarmed black teenager in murderous America with its insanely permissive gun laws. That trial ended with an acquittal after evidence clearly demonstrated Zimmerman, who is mostly Hispanic and a former Bema supporter, was being severely beaten by Martin, who turned out to be something less than the angelic child in the years-old photographs that routinely accompanied the stories, and since then press critics have been waiting for the chance to see how the press might cover a story with less promising racial implications. They might have expected that they would see the story of an law-abiding man being killed at random by people flouting the guns laws as further proof that more laws are needed for the law-abiding to abide by, just as they had seen the case of a law-abiding man protecting himself from a potentially deadly assault as proof that more guns laws are needed for the law-abiding to abide by, but Lane’s death still provides an irresistible opportunity to expose the hypocrisy.

Those critics have a point, given that black-on-white violence is eight times more common than white-on-black violence yet receives far less attention from the media, and in the case of Lane’s tragic death there are early indications that race might have played a deadly role. The first thing a reporter in the modern age does when reporting on a crime is to check the social media postings of the suspects, and in this case they reveal two young men steeped in the violent ghetto sub-culture with an unabashed hatred of white people. Both of the suspects had posted pictures of themselves in gang paraphernalia and flashing gang signs as well as various firearms, and one “tweeted” a claim that “90% of white people are nasty” and a boast that he had “knocced out 5 woods since Zimmerrman court!” For those unfamiliar with the latest slang, “knocced” is a spelling of “knocked” that employs a popular signature of the Crips street gang, and “woods” is an abbreviation of “peckerwoods,” a racial slur against white people. The reference to “Zimmerman court” should be self-explanatory.

Some good might come of this if the story forces a frank acknowledgement of the violent sub-culture that has affected far too many young black men and women, and mitigates some of the hysteria that shows up in the “tweets” of accused murderers in the wake of the relentless hyping of the Zimmerman trial. If the story reminds America that the last notable murder of an Australian occurred during the Crown Heights riots in Brooklyn, when the eminently respectable Rev. Al Sharpton whipped the mob into such a frenzy that Yeshiva student Yankel Rosenbaum was stabbed by a man who would later be acquitted by a sympathetic jury, all the better. It will be of little comfort, however, to those who knew and loved Christopher Lane. Whatever the facts of his tragic death, we can only hope that there will be some measure of justice to comfort his loved ones.

Report: NSA doesn’t know the extent of Snowden damage.

Via Glenn Reynolds:

“The National Security Agency (NSA) doesn’t know how much information leaker Edward Snowden was able to obtain because of an underdeveloped capacity to audit its own data, according to a NBC News report released late Tuesday.”

This is criminal. Every single thing he did should have left an audit trail, both as a guard against misuse, and for damage assessment in a case just like this.
...
Disgraceful. The whole operation needs to be reviewed at the highest levels. Instead, we’re more likely to see some cosmetic fixes and promises that this was a one-off.

Glenn, you realize that "reviewed at the highest levels" means Team Obama's going to investigate itself, don't you? That's the problem, isn't it? Have the FBI check it out? The same FBI that still hasn't interviewed the Tea Party about being targeted by the IRS? Haven't you remarked that you can't be paranoid enough? Who will guard the guardians?

The Truth Is Finally Out: Al-Sisi Is Jewish!

Via Glenn Reynolds.

Here's a link to the proof!

Is there no end to this?  Are these people actually sane?  Then I have to remind myself how the American media made Mitt Romney our to be a homophobe bigot for a prank in school, guilty of animal cruelty for putting his dog in a car carrier, guilty of murder for killing man's wife with cancer.  And I realize it's not just the nutcases in Egypt, it's the nutcases in the U.S.

Remember Trayvon Martin?

“TRUST ME, I’M A JOURNALIST”

Ready for a good laugh?

“Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I know I said Mr. Jones was a swindler. I have a source that told me so. I promised the source confidentiality, so I can’t tell you who it was. But trust me, I’m a journalist.” This is straight out of the Lionel Hutz playbook.

20 Phenomenal Fringe Benefits Of Being A Liberal

Read the entire list.  Here are the first two.

1) If you're a politician, no matter how dumb you are or how poor your decision-making is, the press will still never question your intelligence.

2) You can claim to personally speak for everyone in your gender or racial group, like you're their leader, and the press will take you seriously.

21) You can get hired writing a column for the Virginian Pilot even if especially if you are dumber than a bagful of rocks.

Why the Mainstream Media Doesn't Give a Damn About Black Kids

The reason this type of story doesn't get more press is because it's so common ... and that the media barons don't give a shit about black people. They are props for their stories. And the story is always the same: brutal white repression of black folk.  It's why they were so indignant that the Zimmerman trial didn't go their way.  They are tools for their political ends. They are disposable... I was going to end that last sentence with the words "...like slaves." But that's not right. Slaves were valuable property to their owners. To the media, black people are worthless as individuals. Less than slaves. And that's not right.

And the blacks in the press?  They know what they have to say to stay to stay in their role.  The black members of the media, with a few exceptions have a good gig, like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton who make millions with their acts.  You can always find a few people who know the truth but are willing to sell out for the chance to appear in print or get face-time on the air.  There was a name for that one time.  What was it?  "House-something?"

While the mainstream media lavished endless attention and emotion on the George Zimmerman trial for the killing of Trayvon Martin last weekend, the body of a 17-year-old black boy was discovered on basement stairs, face down, behind a boarded-up house in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago. His body was so badly decomposed that local news reports originally suggested that he had died of blunt force trauma. An autopsy demonstrated that he had in fact been shot to death. His family blamed his death on his refusal to join a gang at school.

The boy's name was Darryl Green. Thus far, no non-local media outlet has told the story of Darryl Green. That's because Darryl Green was likely killed by another black person.

This is the world in which we now live: a Hispanic man kills a black boy, likely in self-defense, and the media portray the killing as evidence of a brutal white power structure looking to reinstitute Jim Crow. Melissa Harris-Perry of MSNBC laments that the not guilty verdict in the Zimmerman trial means it's OK to kill innocent black children. Commentator Andrew Sullivan suggests that the verdict means a return to "the era of lynching." The cover of the New York Daily News links civil rights martyr Emmitt Till to Trayvon Martin. As John Nolte of Breitbart News tweeted, we now live "in a country with a twice-elected black president and the media acting like Mississippi is still burning."

The sad fact is that the media do not care about dead black Americans, unless those blacks are murdered by whites. Never mind the fact that blacks constitute 13.1 percent of the American population but 49 percent of murder victims. Never mind the fact that black life in the inner cities is plagued not by white people stalking down black kids, but by black kids hunting down other black kids.

The LA Times Goes Full Crazy; Gives Five Reasons Not To Move To Texas

The article is embarrassing; as if the LA Times just saw Buzzfeed for the first time and proclaimed, "Quick! Somebody make a .gif before anyone else realizes this stuff is out there!" (Unfortunately, there is no one at the LA Times who can make a .gif, nor who knows what a .gif is.)

The second reason is Governor Rick Perry himself - the three-term governor and former (current?) presidential candidate. The line the article uses:

Is Rick Perry the worst governor in America? Is this a trick question?

You want a trick question? Try this - Is there any sexual deviant that Democrats won't run for public office?

Bending the Trayvon Martin Tragedy To Fit

Jonah Goldberg:

I never thought the Trayvon Martin/George Zimmerman case deserved nearly the attention it got. But reasonable people can disagree about that. What strikes me as unconscionable, however, is the way the supposedly objective media have not only sensationalized a tragedy but at times appear to deliberately bend the facts to fit a desired story line. Maybe it started with the use of pictures of a younger Martin or with the sudden embrace of the term "white Hispanic" to describe Zimmerman in order to more easily paint him as a racist.
...
Any hope that the editorializing would end with the trial was naive. National Public Radio recently profiled Sybrina Fulton, Martin's mother. In response to the tragedy and the trial, Fulton has become a civil rights activist, NPR reported.

It was a deferential piece, and understandably so. Who wants to add to the woman's pain? But there's a difference between deference and advocacy. In a speech to the National Urban League, Fulton said her son was killed "all because of a law, a law that has prevented the person who shot and killed my son to be held accountable and to pay for this awful crime."

And how did NPR's Greg Allen put that statement in context? He told listeners: "Fulton is one of many pushing for a repeal of Florida's 'stand your ground' law." He noted that sit-ins have been staged but that the Florida governor remains "unmoved." And that was it.
...
But that is an airy justification for the media to treat the law as if it were central to the whole controversy. Is it conceivable that NPR would let, say, a gun rights activist's wildly tendentious interpretation of a law stand without some explanation or context? Why should opponents of "stand your ground" laws get different treatment?

I think part of the answer is that the media and civil rights groups want a consolation prize. They didn't get the verdict -- or the story line -- they wanted. But they need to get something positive out of this. I certainly understand why Trayvon Martin's family feels that way. I fail to see why the media should so eagerly oblige.

Walter Williams on Black Self-Sabotage

If we put ourselves into the shoes of racists who seek to sabotage black upward mobility, we couldn't develop a more effective agenda than that followed by civil rights organizations, black politicians, academics, liberals and the news media. Let's look at it.

First, weaken the black family, but don't blame it on individual choices. You have to preach that today's weak black family is a legacy of slavery, Jim Crow and racism. The truth is that black female-headed households were just 18 percent of households in 1950, as opposed to about 68 percent today. In fact, from 1890 to 1940, the black marriage rate was slightly higher than that of whites. Even during slavery, when marriage was forbidden for blacks, most black children lived in biological two-parent families. In New York City, in 1925, 85 percent of black households were two-parent households. A study of 1880 family structure in Philadelphia shows that three-quarters of black families were two-parent households.

During the 1960s, devastating nonsense emerged, exemplified by a Johns Hopkins University sociology professor who argued, "It has yet to be shown that the absence of a father was directly responsible for any of the supposed deficiencies of broken homes." The real issue, he went on to say, "is not the lack of male presence but the lack of male income." That suggests marriage and fatherhood can be replaced by a welfare check.

The poverty rate among blacks is 36 percent. Most black poverty is found in female-headed households. The poverty rate among black married couples has been in single digits since 1994 and is about 8 percent today. The black illegitimacy rate is 75 percent, and in some cities, it's 90 percent. But if that's a legacy of slavery, it must have skipped several generations, because in the 1940s, unwed births hovered around 14 percent.

Roger Chesley is Right!

Roger Chesley (semi-retired columnist for the Virginian Pilot) has called voter ID laws "stupid."  And he may be right.  Here are the eligibility requirements for voting in Virginia.

  • Be a resident of Virginia (A person who has come to Virginia for temporary purposes and intends to return to another state is not considered a resident for voting purposes)
  • Be a U. S. Citizen
  • Be 18 years old (Any person who is 17 years old and will be eighteen years of age at the next general election shall be permitted to register in advance and also vote in any intervening primary or special election)
  • Not be registered and plan to vote in another state
  • Not currently declared mentally incompetent by a court of law
  • If convicted of a felony, your right to vote must have been restored
That's it!

Nothing in that list says that you have to be:
  • Alive  (you don't lose your citizenship just because you die!  That's life discrimination.  The dead have a long history of voting.  For some reason they usually become staunch Democrats.)
  • Actually have the name of the person voting (go on, tell me, where does it say that?  That identity discrimination.)
  • Limited to the number of times you can vote in the same election (you just can't be registered and plan to vote in another state, the rules say nothing about how many times you can vote in Virginia, so there!  That's numerical discrimination.).
  • Mentally competent (just because you live in a nursing home and can't remember your name, that's no reason that the nice man can't fill out your absentee ballot and send it in for you.  No court has declare you mentally incompetent.  Discrimination against the elderly is just so wrong.).
Oh, and that part about being 18 to be old enough to vote is simply age discrimination.  Virginia is a horribly discriminatory state and if you don't believe it: LOVING!  (It's the one-word answer to everything discriminatory).   Time to come out of the dark ages to the new, enlightened times where people can be anything they want so be.  Born with male genitals but feel female?  In more progressive states you can use the women's bathrooms.  But no, not in Virginia!   If you can be a woman in a man's body who says you can't be an adult in a teen's body?  Feel strongly about being at least 18?  Well, Roger Chesley will be there for you and stop this horrible age slavery that Virginia has foisted upon you.  Freeeeeeeedom!

David Sirota faces reality

He asks, is Obama lying or just clueless?

The Egyptian Main Stream Media – Just like the American version, except its mirror image.

From France 24:

The vast majority of Egypt's media are portraying supporters of ousted president and prominent member of the Muslim Brotherhood Mohammed Morsi as terrorists wholly lacking in political legitimacy.

Egyptians were given a broadly one-sided view of the week’s bloody events on their television screens Saturday.

Private TV channel Al-Nahar showed images of the stand-off between supporters of ousted president Mohammed Morsi and security forces at the al-Fath mosque under the banner, “Egypt Fights Terrorism”.

“Why are they letting them out?” asked a Cairo restaurant owner as the TV showed protesters loyal to the deposed Islamist leader being ushered past a mob of angry locals. “The Muslim Brotherhood’s people are now free to cause chaos and smash shops somewhere else.”

The day after the Brotherhood’s call for a “Day of Rage” protest, that saw 173 people killed in clashes with the police and army, most of the country’s newspapers reported events as a battle against the “terrorist” Islamist movement.

“Most Egyptian journalists feel that they have to take a side,” said Ehab el-Zelaky, head of digital media at privately-owned daily newspaper Al-Masry al-Youm.

“Journalists here would under any other circumstance try to be balanced, to tell both sides of the story. But considering what is happening to this country, many of them see it as their duty to support the state in its war against the Muslim Brotherhood.”

Apparently the military leadership has learned something from America’s MSM: first, get good press.  Once that’s done you can do whatever you want.

As I was reading the article I was struck by the similarity between Egypt’s media and our own.  As a thought experiment, imagine if you will that enraged Mormons and their allies were rampaging through America’s cities because the last election was stolen from Mitt Romney.  Never happen, you say?

Work with me a moment and assume that everything that was said about Mormons, Christians and “people of pallor” by MSNBC  is true.  Remember how the Tea Party (a more Norman Rockwell slice of Americana is impossible to imagine) were portrayed as a mob of racist, redneck, gun-toting fascists?   Did I mention racist?  Once you demonize a group, hurting  them is much easier.  Why do you think it was so easy for the people in the IRS to harass and obstruct any organization with Tea Party in its name?

But back to our story.  Mormons are massing, marching and mobilizing.  The army gets out its armored personnel carriers and tear gas and bullets are flying; hundreds, perhaps thousands are killed.  How do you think it would be reported by NBC?  By CBS, ABC, NPR?  Would reporters travel to the “protest” leaders and ask why they are so angry?  Don’t be silly.  We know this script.  We know who the bad guys are.  Instead, we would have commentators and editorial writers demanding an even more vigorous crackdown.  There would be serious talk about doing away with both the First and Second amendments.  Paul Krugman would explain why religion always leads to deficits and hell, and Thomas Friedman would explain how much better off China is because it’s way ahead of America in the suppression of religion.  Ezra Klein will explain that religion is bad because it’s over 100 years old … or even older.

Editorials would warn that “America has too long allowed ministers and priests to preach without government permission.”  MSNBC would demand internment camps and the use of drones on churches and temples.    Rodeo clowns would be beaten to death.  Obama masks would be outlawed.

I made up the part about the Obama masks; they are already illegal … I think.  But the reaction of the MSM in the US is totally predictable.  Just as their reaction to rampages to Leftist is always the same: airbrushed, and shown in the most favorable light.  Need evidence?  Just read the treatment that OWS got before it blew itself up and thus disappeared from the MSM radar screen.

But note this irony.  The American MSM and the Egyptian MSM are reporting on the same events from two diametrically opposed viewpoints.  There may be hope for Egypt.  Some of Morsi's supporters are cancelling ralliesThere’s a lesson here; a “teachable moment.”  I hope Rush Limbaugh explores it next week.

Islamist: “this is not our country any more”.

True.

Chuck Pelto comments:
It wasn't YOUR Egypt in the first place.

You tried to do what the Bolsheviks did in Russia in 1917, taking advantage of a dramatic change of regime to install your own form of tyranny.

Democratic forces overthrew one tyrant. Then, within a short period, another form of evil overthrew the democratic forces to install their own tyranny. In 1917 the Communists in Russia. Today, YOU in Egypt!

Fortunately, the Egyptian Army intervened in an effort to save the country from your evil. The Russian people were not so fortunate. And millions of Russian were murdered by the Communist governments.

Man Died Of Apparent Heart Attack After Cops Barged Into Home

Ten - TEN - NY City police roust a family trying to recover a stolen sell phone.

While police were inside the apartment, Carlos Alcis suffered an apparent heart attack. His family said the man had no history of heart problems.

Carlos Alcis’ brother, Rudy, said when the family awakened, police were already inside the apartment and that officers did nothing in the 30 minutes after Carlos Alcis fell to the ground. Officers said they performed CPR on Alcis, who was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Mark Steyn: The prospect of NSA abuse is now a reality.

One of the characteristics of earlier despotism is that the ruler was limited in how many people he could spy on by the technology of spying.  The despot can set a spy on some of his political enemies, but eventually the number of enemies got to the point where he ran out of spies.  There are always many more people than spies. He could coerce people to spy on each other, but that didn't work nearly as well.   But thanks to modern technology, there has been a breakthrough. We now communicate electronically and the technology is there to spy on all this communication. Thanks to computers, even non electronic communication like letters are tracked.  We may have to go back to whispering secrets to each other in person.

A couple of months back, I quoted Tocqueville’s prescient words from almost two centuries ago: Although absolute monarchy theoretically “clothed kings with a power almost without limits,” in practice “the details of social life and of individual existence ordinarily escaped his control.” In other words, the king couldn’t do it even if he wanted to. What would happen, Tocqueville wondered, if administrative capability were to evolve to bring “the details of social life and of individual existence” within His Majesty’s oversight? That world is now upon us. Today, the king concedes he most certainly can do it, but assures us not to worry, he doesn’t really want to. “If you look at the reports,” said President Obama earlier this month, “even the disclosures that Mr. Snowden’s put forward, all the stories that have been written, what you’re not reading about is the government actually abusing these programs and, you know, listening in on people’s phone calls or inappropriately reading people’s e-mails. What you’re hearing about is the prospect that these could be abused.”

But that was a week ago. And the “prospect” is now a reality: “actual abuse” — including “listening in on people’s phone calls” and “inappropriately reading people’s e-mails” — occurs daily.
The man whose regime used the IRS to punish his political opponents tells us that you can trust him never to do anything inappropriate with this spying.

"That's caudillo talk. That's banana republic stuff." (Charles Krauthammer)

Dictators are often portrayed in movies as unpopular villains despised by the people and opposed by the brave freedom fighters who topple the tyrant to the cheers of the crowd.  I wish it were that way, but the reality is different.  Ever notice how despots manage to attract large crowds of cheering supporters?  And those cheering supporters are fanatically attracted to their leader?

In Korea, where people eat grass and leaves to survive,  Kim Jong Un attracts adoring crowds.

Hugo Chavez was hugely popular with a large segment of the Venezuelan people despite the fact that the economy tanked so badly there was a shortage of toilet paper.

And who has not seen these pictures of adoration and support from He Who Must Not Be Named from the last century?

The point of Dr. Krauthammer's essay On drug sentencing, Obama again shows the law is not the law is how easy it is to become a dictator while retaining the adoration your supporters and  even while keeping up a pretense of democracy via elections. All countries hold elections, even kingdoms hold them.  Germany held elections under the Nazis.  The USSR held elections under Stalin.   Zimbabwe, which has been so badly governed that it no longer has a currency, holds elections and always elects Robert Mugabe.  Even though Kim Jong Un in reality inherited the dictatorship from his father, the North Koreans hold elections, turnout is 100%, he always wins and always will.

Elections do not a democracy make, and even if the elections are not rigged they don't necessarily result in good, or even competent government.  America has been unusually blessed among nations in that, with the exception of the Civil War, we have had reasonably free and almost fair elections which yielded competent government that paid obeisance to the Constitution.  What we're seeing now is how much that Constitutional system depends of the willingness of government officials to voluntarily abide by the rules.   They have internalized the Constitutional limits.  Richard Nixon is an example of a man who knew he had broken the rules and resigned before being impeached, I think, because he respected the rules.  The Obama regime is an object lesson in what happens when the President no longer feels bound by the rules and customs; when the Constitution is no longer a guide to executive action but is viewed as deeply flawed.  When congress is dispensed with and we are ruled by decree.

What's disheartening is that in the U.S. the rule of law is disappearing without much opposition, and with the raucous approval of so many people.

As a reaction to the crack epidemic of the 1980s, many federal drug laws carry strict mandatory sentences. This has stirred unease in Congress and sparked a bipartisan effort to revise and relax some of the more draconian laws.

Traditionally -- meaning before Barack Obama -- that's how laws were changed: We have a problem, we hold hearings, we find some new arrangement, ratified by Congress and signed by the president.

That was then. On Monday, Attorney General Eric Holder, a liberal in a hurry, ordered all U.S. attorneys to simply stop charging nonviolent, non-gang-related drug defendants with crimes that, while fitting the offense, carry mandatory sentences. Find some lesser, non-triggering charge. How might you do that? Withhold evidence -- e.g., about the amount of dope involved.

In other words, evade the law, by deceiving the court if necessary. "If the companies that I represent in federal criminal cases" did that, said former Deputy Attorney General George Terwilliger, "they could be charged with a felony."
...
The point is whether a president, charged with faithfully executing the laws that Congress enacts, may create, ignore, suspend and/or amend the law at will. Presidents are arguably permitted to refuse to enforce laws they consider unconstitutional (the basis for so many of George W. Bush's so-called signing statements). But presidents are forbidden from doing so for reason of mere policy -- the reason for every Obama violation listed above.
...
Yet this president is not only untroubled by what he's doing, but open and rather proud. As he tells cheering crowds on his never-ending campaign-style tours: I am going to do X -- and I'm not going to wait for Congress.

That's caudillo talk. That's banana republic stuff. In this country, the president is required to win the consent of Congress first.

At stake is not some constitutional curlicue. At stake is whether the laws are the law. And whether presidents get to write their own.

Just who is going to really oppose Obama if he simply says he won't obey a law passed by congress, or a court order?  Because that's what he has said on a number of occasions.  What are the real, as opposed to the assumed checks and balances?  These are questions that brought down the Morsi government in Egypt.   I don't want to make too much of the comparison since Egypt does not have a people who have a custom or a culture of democracy.   But that habit of assuming that the president will follow the rules is also a weak spot in the U.S because there are no institutions that will actually insure that he does.

Think the unimaginable.  The usurpation of law gets so bad that someone in the House of Representatives actually has the political courage to prepare articles of impeachment.   How far will that get in today's political climate?  And the Senate will stand solidly behind the President so impeachment is a political impossibility.   Thus emboldened, Obama drops the last fig leaf of listening to congress.  There are enough laws and regulations today that a legal argument can be made for any rule, regulation or edict he cares to make.  When you can work out a way to ship thousands of weapons to Mexican drug cartels and have everyone parrot the blatant lie that this was a "botched operation"  you start to believe you're bullet-proof.  When you can blame the murder of four Americans - including the ambassador - on a demonstration caused by a video, and get away with it you feel invulnerable.   So you promote the person who went on TV to broadcast the lie as a reward and challenge your opponents to do something about it.   Hearings are held, the press gives you a pass, you call all your lies "phony scandals" and in the end, nobody even loses a day's pay, not even the IRS executive at the core of harassing your enemies who takes the Fifth.  These are not the actions of someone who wants to create an image of someone who takes limitations on his power seriously.  Rather they are the actions of someone who has some experience with bending the rules and who now sees that there are really no checks to his exercise of raw power.  I don't think that this has occurred to may people yet, because to think it is too horrible to contemplate.

My sister, who was a teen ager when the Germans marched into Holland, saw in Obama the same kind of impulse as Germany's leader. I thought she was being overwrought. No longer.

Obama, Benghazi and the Pleasures of Self-Deception

When theory and reality conflict, the ideologue sides with the theory.  It explains how people who go to a mountaintop to await the predicted end of the world descend unshaken in their faith.

William J. Luti's subhead is:  Since the White House promised that war is winding down, evidence to the contrary is ignored.

It almost cost the British their freedom.
British planners needed a reason to keep their defense budget down. They found one in the "Ten Year Rule," adopted in August 1919. The British assumed, on an annual basis, that no major war would break out in the subsequent 10 years.  They ran that assumption right up to the onset of World War II...
The Obama administration is committed to fundamentally transforming America and appeasing our enemies because, in the ideology of the people that have shaped Obama, the enemy is the white race like Obama's "typical" aunt and the free market system.  That leaves no room for real, existential enemies external that can cause the country major harm.  It's why any problems can be handled by the occasional drone strike or the police and courts.

Today, it is the United States that is war weary. A decade of fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan has taken its toll, and Americans are looking inward. Bin Laden is dead, and President Obama assures us that the core of al Qaeda is on a path to defeat, that it is now a "diffuse" threat, dispersed from Syria to Somalia to Yemen to the Maghreb and wreaking havoc largely in those lands.
But a funny thing happened on the way to the victory party. The enemy fought back. Islamic radicals took quick advantage of a strategic shift in the battle and flooded into the power vacuum created by the Arab Spring. With force and guile, they push toward their objective: Get the U.S. out of the region and take over a state. What better way to further that goal than to attack the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, killing four Americans on the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on America.

So why, after two years of chaos caused by the Arab Spring, was the Obama administration unable to separate the Benghazi signal from the noise? We now know that there was a flood of advance warning about the danger to U.S. interests across the region before the attack on the U.S. consulate. Those CIA "cable(s) to stations on 9/11 security," referenced obliquely in White House emails, may hold evidence to the severity of the threat.

In times past, military and diplomatic councils would convene. Reasoned threat assessments would be made and forces repositioned accordingly. Perhaps an American aircraft carrier or an amphibious ready group would have been dispatched to patrol the waters of the eastern Mediterranean gathering intelligence, providing situational awareness and, most importantly, better positioned to respond to a potential crisis.

But in these times, taking such action runs counter to the administration's template. After all, we are now in the business of winding down wars.

For those in the Obama administration who want to believe the world is no longer a dangerous place, holding close to "cherished beliefs and comforting assumptions" about the nature of radical Islam can indeed provide respite from the war on terror.

But in the brutal world of the Islamic radical, not everyone can be trusted to act with reason. The scramble to close 19 embassies from West Africa to South Asia and airlift dozens of Americans out of Yemen last week raises the awkward question of who has who on the run? It also exposes the essence of the administration's strategic confusion about the nature of the conflict.

In this case, the proposition "the war is over" is what Roberta called a "self-annihilating prophecy." Such prophecies, she wrote, can be suicidal in two ways: They endanger both the prophecy and the prophet.

Holder and FBI admit lying about data released before election last year

More Obama administration lies.

In their efforts to promote the re-election of Barack Obama, our nation’s premier law enforcement agencies presented false data to the American public about a “crackdown” on mortgage fraud. Fox News reports:

The Justice Department and FBI have quietly acknowledged they grossly overstated the scope of a mortgage fraud crackdown, which the administration heralded with much fanfare a few weeks before last year’s presidential election.

According to a memo circulated by the FBI and a correction posted online by the Justice Department, the number of defendants, the number of victims and the size of the losses are, in reality, a fraction of what officials claimed last October.

Attorney General Eric Holder and other law enforcement officials claimed in early October that the initiative charged 530 criminal defendants on behalf of 73,000 victims who suffered over $1 billion in losses. The so-called Distressed Homeowner Initiative, which targeted fraud schemes against distressed homeowners, was highlighted in a press release and press conference at the time.

Holder, talking to the cameras on Oct. 9, called it “a groundbreaking, year-long mortgage fraud enforcement effort.”

The real numbers, it turns out, were far smaller. The feds now admit that the number of criminal defendants charged was more like 107, not 530. The number of victims was 17,185 — still a large number, but roughtly one fourth the size of the original headcount. And the losses totaled $95 million — not $1 billion, as originally claimed.

The mortgage meltdown of 2008, which served (and continues to serve) as a bludgeon for Democrats to blame George W. Bush, Republicans, and free markets for all the economic misery stands as one of the great, deceptive propaganda triumphs of American history. The low and medium information voting public does not know that banks were bludgeoned by regulators into giving mortgages to people who could not afford them. And now we have the admission that they were served up false information to make it appear as though Obama and the DoJ were doing something to improve things.

President Asterisk.

Pictures do lie

Here we assumed that Obama was watching the Seals take out Osama bin Laden, all from a picture.

Now it turn out he was actually playing cards with his buddies while the raid was in progress.

The very ethically challenged Virginian Pilot editors

How do they sleep at night?

The Virginian Pilot has led the charge against Governor Bob McDonnell, effectively accusing him of corruption, for accepting gifts and loans from a business owner Jonnie Williams. Many of the gifts went to Bob McDonnell’s family such as the one that helped pay for his daughter’s wedding.

Today I read an op-ed by Bob Rayner who writes for the Richmond Times Dispatch who informs me of things that virtually no one is aware of: the gifts that a previous Governor and current Senator Tim Kaine received while in the governor’s mansion.

It seems that, in 2005, Tim Kaine accepted the use of a wealthy donor’s Caribbean vacation home, a freebie valued at $18,000. The next year, as governor, Kaine reappointed the same donor to the Virginia Commission for Higher Education Board Appointments, which helps the governor vet candidates for much-sought-after slots on the boards that run Virginia’s state-supported colleges and universities.

In 2005, Kaine also received $3,500 in clothing from Stuart C. Siegel, chairman of S&K Famous Brands Inc., as well as two nights at the luxurious Greenbrier hotel in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., courtesy of the Virginia Bar Association.
In 2006, Gov. Kaine received $12,000 from Teva Pharmaceuticals to pay for a trip to Aspen, Col., where the Democratic Governors Association chose to meet during the middle of steamy summer. Teva is a giant Israeli company that specializes in producing generic drugs. This year, according to Reuters, “Pfizer Inc. said Teva Pharmaceuticals Industries Ltd. and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. would pay $2.15 billion to settle a patent suit related to its acid-reflux drug. This is the first instance of generic drugmakers paying damages for marketing a copy of an existing drug for which patents have yet to expire.”

Also in 2006, Kaine received gifts worth $3,237 for travel to the Northern Neck, Virginia horse country and the Shenandoah Valley from E. Scott Kasprowicz, a former telecom executive whom Kaine just happened to name as deputy secretary of transportation that very year.

Dominion, the state-regulated power company, paid $1,356 to help fund various trips in 2006 for Kaine, including one to the NCAA Final Four basketball tournament in Indianapolis, where George Mason was playing. And the governor received $777 in various clothing items from S&K, even as the Richmond clothing retailer faced financial difficulties that would push it into bankruptcy a few years later.

During the remainder of Kaine’s term, gifts he accepted included $2,500 in air travel to Denver during the 2008 Democratic convention, provided by billionaire Sheila Johnson, more travel money from Dominion, and tickets to a Washington Wizards game valued at $850 and supplied by Robert F. Hynter, a Northern Virginia business executive.

Bob McDonnell has not appointed Jonnie Williams to any boards. His sin is helping promote a Virginia based business, Star Scientific, something that happens to be part of a governor’s job description.

Which brings us to the Virginian Pilot’s editors ethical lapses. The Pilot’s product is information for the public. When that information about gifts to political figures (and the resulting favors by those politicians) is suppressed in the case of Democrats and gnawed on for weeks and months in the case of Republicans, we are dealing with the ethics of media liars.

Liars? Certainly. Lying can be done as much by withholding information as it can by deliberately providing false witness. In fact, in the press, much more lying is done by “spiking” a story, or treating it as a minor issue on the back pages, than by deliberate lies. Here's a very good example

Of course, I’m sure the editors of the Virginian Pilot don’t see it that way. They ran the column by Bob Rayner on the op-ed page and that’s the last we’ll see of it, but in case anyone challenges the ethically challenged Virginian Pilot editors about their ethical challenges, they’ll point to this borrowed article and claim to have done their jobs. Another lie.

Ted Cruz’s Joe Biden joke

At the Family Leadership Summit.
Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, shared some jokes at Vice President Joe Biden’s expense on Saturday as he spoke at the Family Leadership Summit in Iowa.

“Vice President Joe Biden,” Cruz began, pausing for a moment as the crowd laughed.

“You know the nice thing is that you don’t even need a punchline,” he added as the crowd roared with laughter.

“You just say his name and people laugh,” Cruz noted, reminding the crowd of Biden’s advice about firing a shotgun in the air if a person’s house was under attack.

“Which is very very good advice,” Cruz added. “If it so happens you are being attacked by a flock of geese.”

Ted Cruz for President!

Morning Sex!

After seeing an explicit sex scene while watching Good Morning America, a mom decided to use her talent for publicity to do something about it.

It all started last week as Rebeca Seitz of Naples, Florida, was enjoying some morning television. As commercials began to air, she could hardly believe her eyes. While she was watching “Good Morning America,” an advertisement for the ABC show “Betrayal” came on, featuring a male and female in the midst of a steamy sex scene. The commercial for the show was apparently graphic, exposing her 8-year-old son to extremely unpalatable content.

Christians, she says too often approach the dominant culture with an apology on their lips. That's a mistake.
“Another big thing that happened with me, because I work mainly with mainstream, I have started sliding into what I think a lot of us are in. We approach everything from apology … I’m not there anymore,” she said. “Look, I’m not issuing any judgement on you for not sharing my faith, but how about you stop issuing judgement on me for having faith.”
Sexual deviants (thanks for Stacy McCain who does a number on them) don't apologize when they work tirelessly and openly to make their particular perversions mainstream. It works for them, it works for Christians. She received an apology from her local ABC affiliate, WZVN-TV who explained that they were not responsible, that the ad came from the national ABC feed. See how that works?

And no, turning off the TV set is not the real answer, just as turning your head away or scurrying home when someone is being mugged is not the answer to crime.  That's because there is really no escaping the culture.  If the culture is being shaped and we refuse to participate in that shaping, others will do it for us and, as we can see, we're not really happy with the results.  Even those who had the most to do with that shaping aren't happy.  Being transgressive isn't fun anymore when your particular moral perversion is the norm.  It's had to be on the edge when the edge moves far ahead of you.

No Accounting for Government

It appears that the government has not increased the debt by even one penny for s full month despite running through $98 billion in new spending (and that doesn't include the millions spent on the Obama vacation).

Bud Norman:
This is hard to account for, as one would expect that a debt to go up or down by at least some miniscule amount over the course of 31 days, and in the case of a government that ran a $98 billion deficit during the same period of time it would be expected to go up by approximately $98 billion, but government accountants seem to have a knack for hard accounting. Their efforts have somehow kept the debt stuck just $25 million below the legal debt limit, conveniently preventing the government from being in violation of its own laws, and that is rather precise work. After all, $25 million is a just a tick or two on the national debt clock, a relatively piddling sum that the president can blow through in just a few vacation days, so they’re cutting it awfully close.

If Jack Lew at the Treasury can keep the debt precisely $25 million below the legal limit for a month, perhaps he can do it forever and solve the spending problem without getting either Obama or Congress involved.

Rodeo Clowns in the Missouri Soviet Republic

First Secretary uh ...Dear Leader uh ... President Obama was dissed by a rodeo clown the other day. Wearing an Obama mask the clown goaded, and was chased by, a bull. What happened next is best described by Bud Norman.
When a rodeo clown is summarily denied Pronto Pups and deep-fried Twinkies and other attractions of a state fair, and such supposedly independent sorts as rodeo cowboys feel obliged to oust their elected leader in the name of proper political etiquette, and the NAACP is threatening to literally make a federal case of such a harmless act of lése majesté, the chilling effect on other critics is unmistakable.
As we now know, the clown has been permanently banned from the Missouri state fair, the announcer has been forced to resign as president of the Missouri Cowboy Rodeo Association, and the Missouri NAACP demands that the culprits be sent to the Gulag.

Rodeo clowning is not high art, in fact it's dangerous work.  But the furor over this is instructive in a way that's vaguely like the Oprah controversy about being dissed in a Swiss boutique.  It's how ruling classes get to be ruling classes.

Mocking our elected leaders is healthy in a republic lest they get too full of themselves. The presidency of this country has not and should not be accorded the kind of subservient deference that was commonly accorded kings and princes. I may have been momentarily irritated if I had heard of George Bush being used as a prop in another rodeo ring ... if I had heard about it. But I didn't because Bush did not receive the kind of slavish deference that Obama is receiving from the media and the rest of his coterie of bootlickers.

What is disturbing about this episode is that it's part of a pattern of government suppression that has come to full flower under the Obama Regime.
It’s not as if the Internal Revenue Service were using its awesome powers to stifle dissent, or impertinent journalists were being treated as criminal conspirators by the Department of Justice, or a contributor to the opposition party were being harassed by a variety of federal agencies, but at a time when all those things are also happening it creates an unhappy feeling of enforced conformity. When rodeo clowns are being subjected to “sensitivity training,” which is a modern euphemism for re-education, there’s something almost Soviet about it.
Almost comrade?

And The Oprah?  How dare a lowly shop girl do anything but bow and scrape to The Oprah?  "Do you know who I am?"

BANNED FOR LIFE!

The Mother of All Scandals

Victor Davis Hanson on the Benghazi lies and deceits.

Four Americans were slaughtered under conditions that we still cannot fathom. It was rumored but not confirmed that Ambassador Stevens in extremis was either raped or brutalized, though those details remain murky — given that the assassination of an American ambassador is rare, and the vicious brutalization of his person is unprecedented. Witnesses of the attack on the CIA annex have either disappeared or gone silent. The families of the deceased have received conflicting accounts of how loved ones were murdered. All that we know for now is that the entire scene of the caskets arriving on U.S. soil — from the melodramatic assurances that the perpetrators would shortly feel American retaliation, to the demonization of Mr. Nakoula as the cause of the deaths — was a lie, and a cynical one at that.

No one has paid for lying directly in the face of the American people, and the media have been complicit ion the cover-up.

There were absolutely no professional consequences for publicly lying — to the nation, to television audiences, to the relatives of the deceased, to the United Nations — that the Nakoula video was the cause of the deaths of our Benghazi personnel. Barack Obama was reelected. Hillary “what difference does it make” Clinton retired from the secretary of State post to congratulations and media frenzy about her likely 2016 presidential campaign. Susan Rice was promoted to National Security advisor.

There is almost no one left at his 2012 post. In addition to the above, General Carter Ham, in charge of Africa Command, has retired. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta has retired. CIA Director David Petraeus has resigned.

How did it happen that just nine months after the attack, most all of the relevant decision-makers — Clinton, Ham, Panetta, Petraeus, Rice — have vanished from their jobs?

The truth of the matter.

So here we have it: a beleaguered “consulate” that was refused additional security and relied on local militias, apparently due to administration worry over destroying an Obama campaign narrative of a reborn Libya and dying al-Qaeda. A CIA operation of some sort supplied something to someone, but what and why and to whom, we are not supposed to know. Four Americans, the very best the country had to offer, are dead, denied assistance when assistance could have saved them — the why and the how and the when of it all we are not told. We fear it might have been a crackpot cost-benefit analysis: four lives versus another Mogadishu and an Obama November defeat.

We know only that the dead were far more heroic than the leaders who chose not to aid them.

And in reaction to all this, we jail a petty video maker, who makes the perfect scapegoat as a supposedly right-wing Islamophobic hate monger whose take-down advances our president’s politically correct narrative of Muslim outreach. That yarn required a president, secretary of state, and UN ambassador to lie repeatedly. When we ask questions, witnesses are browbeaten, the knowledgeable fade into the Washington woodwork, the luminaries have all left their offices, and we are left with “phony” scandal and “what difference does it make.”

All in all — the mother of all scandals.

Four in five investors provide financial support for adult children or parents,

Economic life in Obama's America

The UBS survey of high net worth investors found that most are supporting their children and their parents.

Unemployment, the economy and aging parents make concerns about the financial situation of family members significant. In fact, investors’ second-biggest personal finance concern is the financial situation of their children/grandchildren (58% of those with children are concerned, behind being able to afford the healthcare and support needed in old age). Investors are providing a high degree of financial support to family members and feel good about doing so. Four in five investors with adult children ages 18-39 are financially supporting other family generations in some way. Two in three are supporting these adult children, three in four are supporting their grandchildren, and for those with parents over 70, 28% are financially supporting them.

A significant number of investors are providing substantial financial help, including education funding, paying for large purchases and sharing their home. Even among affluent and wealthy investors, one in five has another family generation (most commonly their adult children) living at home. For investors who are providing seemingly minor financial support—e.g., paying for phone bills, groceries, etc.—even this can have a real impact on their finances over time.

What is “wealthy?”

According to as study by the big Swiss bank, UBS, wealth means having no financial constraints on activities.  When forced to pick a dollar amount, they pick $5 million as the amount it takes to be considered “wealthy.”

Well, considering the fact that a really nice Gulfstream 550 can cost as much as Peter Jackson’s $68 million plane, it seems to us that “no financial constraints” and $5 million don’t always go together.

Peter Jackson’s Gulfstream 550

Wealth is relative.  Having no financial constraints for a hermit can mean having no money.  For the people in Jackson’s income level, no financial constraint can mean (in J.P. Morgan’s words)  that if you have to ask how much it costs, you can’t afford it.

Bud Norman has a comment on the Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous with particular emphasis on Obama.

Why Does Lesbian @SaraAlcid Want to Help More Women Kill Their Babies?

For an answer to this question, read this essay by Stacy McCain.

Bryn Mawr has long been a place where women go to become ugly on the inside.  My experience with Bryn Mawr women was unfortunate in that I found them insufferably supercilious, convinced of their superiority and utterly devoid of humanity.

And that was 50 years ago when tuition was high but no where near $42,870 per year.

The Obama years

Via Vanderleun

The Obama years have given us an America that looks something like a bad Kurt Russell movie from the 80s:
a weird, garish dystopia, where the president runs a death squad out of the White House, wages robot wars in foreign lands, operates a techno-panopticon sucking up every message, musing and secret desire of the populace, and lets tens of millions of citizens sink into poverty and despair in their gutted communities and crumbling infrastructure while he doles out trillions of dollars to rapacious elites gleefully bleeding the country dry. Actually, if you tried to run this scenario past a few coked-up studio execs in those halcyon years, they would have rejected it out of hand as too unrealistic, even for a bad Kurt Russell movie. Yet this is our reality.

Huge ‘We are all Trayvon’ mural showcased in Florida State Capitol

This is the face of Liberalism.
The face of hate.
The face of lies and deceit.
The face of racism.

The new KKK.

Photo from Peace Mural Foundation

Painted by Miami artist Huong, pictured above, the mural depicts a standing and uninjured George Zimmerman firing at a hooded figure whose face is replaced by a mirror. It also features a bleeding Martin Luther King Jr. and the phrase “we are all Trayvon” written in several different languages.

Keep in mind that the KKK was the creation of the Democrats.   She, and the people she represents want to demonize their opponents so that when it comes time to destroy them the mob will looking for blood be with them and everyone else will look the other way, believing they had it coming.  This is how these vicious haters operate: demonize, isolate and kill.

Fat, Whack, and Lying is No Way to Go Through Life, Oprah

Via Vanderleun

Is Oprah lying in this latest of her many whining whimpers? Of course she is. It's what she does. Oprah Winfrey branded 'a liar' by Swiss sales assistant in racist handbag row
The saleslady has hit back, stating: 'I wasn't sure what I should present to her when she came in on the afternoon of Saturday July 20 so I showed her some bags from the Jennifer Aniston collection 'I simply told her that it was like the one I held in my hand, only much more expensive, and that I could show her similar bags. 'It is absolutely not true that I declined to show her the bag on racist grounds. I even asked her if she wanted to look at the bag.

Comment elsewhere; "Isn't it funny how just as Oprah comes out in a new movie about race and Obama is presenting her with the Medal of Freedom she is suddenly discriminated against? "
