Recruiter shot dead outside Army office

From Powerline:
It was reported today that the man who shot two soldiers at a Little Rock Army recruiting center was Abdul Hakim Mujahid Muhammad, a Muslim convert formerly known as Carlos Bledsoe. Muhammad reportedly "said he was opposed to the U.S. military."

After the murder of Kansas abortionist George Tiller on Sunday, lefties like Andy Sullivan and denizens of the Daily Kos immediately tried to pin the blame on Bill O'Reilly, who did a program critical of Dr. Tiller. It will be interesting to see whether they're consistent enough to blame themselves for Muhammad's attack. After all, if Muhammad was a Sullivan reader he probably thought American soldiers don't do anything all day long but waterboard detainees.

In the Virginian Pilot the murder of abortionist George Tiller was the headline story on the front page yesterday. Today's murder was at the bottom of page three.

Here's how it was reported in USA Today:
A Muslim convert who said he was opposed to the U.S. military shot two soldiers outside an Arkansas recruiting station, killing one, police said Monday.
"This individual appears to have been upset with the military, the Army in particular, and that's why he did what he did," Little Rock Police Lt. Terry Hastings said in a phone interview.

"He has converted to (Islam) here in the past few years," Hastings said. "We're not completely clear on what he was upset about. He had never been in the military.

"Upset?" Upset doesn't describe the feelings of someone who guns down two people, killing one. "Not completely clear on what he was upset about?" Nothing to see here folks, move along.

The Tillman killings were used as an indictment of those who are pro-life or who protest abortion. When an Islamic convert guns down two soldiers the press reports that we have no clue about motivation and no larger context.

UPDATE: Suspect Traveled To Yemen, Was Under FBI Investigation

Here's the story from ABC News Recruiter Shooting Suspect Under FBI Investigation

The suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of one soldier and the critical injury of another at a Little Rock, Ark., Army recruiting booth today was under investigation by the FBI's Joint Terrorist Task Force since his return from Yemen, ABC News has learned.

The location of a fatal shooting outside a military recruitment office in a Little Rock, Ark., shopping center Monday, June 1, 2009, is shown. A new soldier helping to attract others to the military was shot and killed outside the office and a second soldier was wounded, and a suspect was arrested, police said.

The investigation was in its preliminary stages, authorities said, and was based on the suspect's travel to Yemen and his arrest there for using a Somali passport.

The suspect, Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad, 24, had changed his name from Carlos Leon Bledsoe after converting to the Muslim faith.

Now back to blaming Christians and Bill O'Reilly for the Tillman shooting.
