Treacher says on Twitter:
This election isn’t about Obama eating dogs. The sooner we stop talking about Obama eating dogs, which is something that he did, the better.
I disagree. This election is about eating dogs.
This election is most assuredly not about electing a President who won’t put us in the hole for $5 trillion in four years, or putting someone in the Oval Office who will preserve our tenuous hold on an occasional Supreme Court majority.
It is about eating dogs. And where dogs ride on family vacations. And I will not tolerate any distractions from those all-important themes. I plan to illustrate this point often, by concluding a post by noting whether the subject of the post has eaten dogs. I don’t want to have to explain the importance of this every time, which is why I will explain it here, once, and simply link it in the future.
Romney 2012: it’s about eating dogs!
I have no idea if the “Obama eats dogs” story was a plant by the Romney campaign. (Oh, I know that it began on the internet by Jim Treacher, but I don’t know if someone on the Romney team told him to look at Obama’s book).
But … it’s amazing how the aptly named “Army of Davids” is able to use the Internet and social media to run with a theme and dominate the popular imagination.
We may be seeing the end of an era dominated by ability of Leftist comedians like Jon Stewart, Bill Maher or the cast of SNL to create a false image of a political figure. Perhaps the trashing of Sarah Palin was the high point of their power, just as Watergate was for the MSM.
Ridicule is the most potent political weapon. Obama is rapidly looking less and less like a President and more and more like an inept pol who’s also something of a doofus. Romney looks like a President, he acts and talks like a President; Obama was always surrounded by a rock star aura. But a rock star is not blamed for high unemployment or soaring gas prices. Obama will always have his groupies, but his hold on the Oval Office is slipping away.

The trashing of Sarah Palin wasn't the height of their power. That was on the slippery slope about a year before their credibility completely flew off the cliff.
In truth a lot of issues do hinge on the President eating dog.
For instance I heard he is going to affirm our special relationship with England by eating a British Bulldog.
Of course, it helps that, generally speaking, Obama has always been an actual doofus. This was just deliberately overlooked by a great many people for their own reasons.
Once enough realize that "the Emperor has no clothes" er, ah, um . . . "the President is a doofus" it's pretty much all over. I see the tipping point coming. It will be interesting to watch a lot of rats leaving a sinking ship.
Let's just say that the trashing of Sarah Palin (and the election of Barack Obama) was the last of their power. The MSM is no longer the kingmaker in American politics.
The MSM had much more power in the pre-Drudge era, and when it was far more concentrated (e.g. there were only 3 TV networks and a few widely-read newsmagazines).
Recall the bogus memes that have circulated in that concentrated media about R presidential candidates. Ford was a clumsy oaf (he was a top Big Ten athlete), the Carter-Reagan race in 80 was “neck and neck” until polls suddenly broke in the last two days, George HW Bush had never seen a grocery scanner (not true), George W Bush was stupid, etc. And of course Rathergate, which was a September surprise that would have worked in an earlier era, but was quickly uncovered as a fraud by the “Army of Davids”.
Since when has being a doofus been an obstacle to being elected President?
"Hey, can't a guy just eat his woofles?"
Can't tell if my comment posted. Well, nobody on the Romney team told me to that, or anything else. If they were going to leak it -- if you can call quoting Obama's own book a "leak" -- why would they choose ME?
Harry, just finished reading vol. I of Heyward's "The Age of Reagan." The '80 race was neck and neck going into the last week. The only debate was held on October 28 and only after Reagan's closing remarks and Jimmy's "Amy thinks nuclear weapons are yucky" did independents start breaking for Reagan in droves. Pat Caddell noticed the bottom fell out of Carter's polling starting on Sunday night. Also remember that Reagan had a huge lead in August coming out of the convention but a few unforced errors brought him back to even with Carter.
Treacher,
I thought you were tipped off by one of your regular commenters to the passage in BHO's book.
And I seriously doubt the stiff-necked geeks in Romney's campaign staff would have chosen you for a leak.
Let's not forget, the Palin family soap-opera did give the leftist media hacks plenty to work with. Ditto Christine O'Donnel two years later. Romney, OTOH, is as vanilla as they come and clearly no dummy.
"Obama is rapidly looking less and less like a President and more and more like an inept pol who’s also something of a doofus."
I think it's the people who voted him into office looking like the doofus. He's pretty much done what he promised (threatened) to do.
I think you picked the wrong instance for the "height of their power" observation. Long before Palin, there was RatherGate. THAT was the tipping point when they could no longer ignore all those "people in pajamas in their living rooms".
Hey, I may not be proud that I pulled the lever for mccain (I voted for Palin), but I am proud that I voted against obamugabe.
Mark, I like your comment. I also voted for Palin and the cranky old guy she ran with. For a year after the election my wife's car had half of the McCain Palin bumper sticker. Guess which half?
nice posting.. thanks for sharing..
