It's All About the Blondes

Liberal bloggers claim to see a coded racial message in John McCain's new "Celeb" ad, in which a female voice-over calls Barack Obama "the biggest celebrity in the world" as images of Britney Spears and Paris Hilton flash briefly across the screen. "I note with interest today, John McCain's new tactic of associating Barack Obama with oversexed and/or promiscuous young white women," writes Joshua Marshall at TalkingPointsMemo.com. ...

Put us down as skeptical. Nobody living outside a cave would fail to get the message of associating Mr. Obama with two celebrities who are, in the phrase, mostly "famous for being famous." As the voice-over asks of Mr. Obama, "Is he ready to lead?" But Mr. Obama himself has helped the "racism" theme along, accusing his opponents of trying to "scare" voters by alluding to the fact that "he doesn't look like all those other presidents on the dollar bills." Mr. Obama later denied any racial connotation, so we guess he was referring to the way George Washington is dressed.

The true meaning of all this? It perhaps is found in the attitudes of those who believe the typical American white voter also "clings" ignorantly to religion and guns. Add another down-market preoccupation of which these voters must be cured by liberals -- fear of black/blonde miscegenation.

It looks like the Liberal Left has lost his battle. Via Rassmussen.

As for Obama’s comment, 53% of white voters saw it as racist, as did 44% of African-Americans and 61% of all other voters.
